Doodle parents!!!!!

No one loves a long fluffy doodle more than I do, and 2 of the super common questions I get from parents are “how can I improve brushing st home?” and “How can I avoid matting at home?”

It all starts with WHAT you’re using to brush your doodle. I recommend having a good slicker brush and a good metal comb. You want to use the brush to go over the whole body and get out easy tangles. I would then take the brush and use the line brushing technique on the whole body. This means using your other hand to brush the hair upwards, against the direction of growth, and take the slicker brush and follow under your hand, brushing the coat downwards layer by layer. When you’re done brushing you should be able to take your metal comb and come through the coat without it getting stuck or caught on any tangles or matting.

If your dog has matting, it can be painful to try and brush out at home depending on the severity and the sensitivity of your doodle’s skin. I NEVER reccomend trying to cut or shave matting out at home, matting pulls at the skin causing extra risk for mistakes and accidents.

I found this super helpful guide for brushing your doodle at home that I think is a great visual for parents who want a little more guidance.
