What could go wrong?

It may seem like a good question to ask yourself when planning and preparing for something. But, when there is unhealed past trauma, this question can become an obsessive thought that plagues you and greatly hinders your life.

It can stop you from taking risks, even when they are aligned.

It can create a tremendous amount of unnecessary anxiety and fear.

It's a protective mechanism, because when you've gone through a traumatic experience there's a part of you that wants to prevent you from ever feeling that kind of pain again. So, it tries to prevent a future trauma by thinking about everything that could go wrong, and limiting your actions. It can become so habitual, you ask yourself this question without even having to think about it.

Then, before you know it, you are talking yourself out of something that initially had you very intrigued. You've gone done a rabbit hole of worst case scenarios that have your nervous system completely freaked out.

You don't act on that inspiration to start your own business.

The great idea for a new program to offer your clients stays inside of you.

You don't do that FB live or write that post that wants to come out of you.

You don't leave that relationship that is sucking the life out of you.

You don't book that trip that you've always dreamed of taking.

You don't take the risk and let that special someone know how you really feel about them.

Slowly, but surely over time... YOU STOP LIVING LIFE. You are simply existing.

The first step is recognizing that you have this habitual thought (or some version of it) that stops you.

The next step is intentionally asking yourself a better question...

What could go RIGHT?

How could this work out better than I ever imagined?

What doors will now open because I'm following my heart and soul and trusting myself?

Changing the inner dialogue can be the difference between actually living life or simply existing in your comfort zone until you die.

You get to choose.

Permission to fall apart and feel your emotions...

Tensions are running at an all time high for many. Whether it's about what is happening with schools, your job, your business, etc.

So much has changed in such a short period of time. There is massive disappointment, anger, sadness, loss, and grief for many from these changes.

Remember that you are human and are meant to FEEL your emotions, not ignore them. You are NOT a robot that needs to act happy or positive all the time.

Allowing yourself to feel your emotions or fall apart is not a weakness. In fact, it takes great strength and vulnerability to let those feelings be felt.

If you are courageous enough to go there, know that I'm there too. Be extra kind and loving toward yourself. You are doing the best you can

Your happiness is YOUR responsibility.

It sounds pretty easy, right? This has been one of the toughest things for me to embody.

In the past, I had many beliefs about how to be happy.

They sounded something like this...

I'll be happy when I'm making more money.
I'll be happy when my body looks the way I want it to look.
I'll be happy when my kids listen and do what I want them to do.
I'll be happy when I feel more passion in my marriage.
I'll be happy when I take that vacation.
I'll be happy when people do what I think they should do.
I'll be happy when my business is more successful.

I was rarely happy because I was focused on things externally changing BEFORE I could change how I felt internally.

It doesn't work that way.

In my search for happiness, I became aware of another barrier that shocked me. I was addicted to being angry. For many different reasons my nervous system had been wired to seek out reasons to be angry. Anger helped me feel certain and powerful. Facebook was my drug of choice. I could hop on FB and within seconds find things to get me fired up. Hours would pass by and I'd be totally pi**ed off the rest of the day.

When I became aware how much this pattern and my own beliefs about how to be happy were the very things standing in my way to being happy...something changed INSIDE of me.

I saw how detrimental this way to my physical, emotional, and mental well being.

I saw how many opportunities I let pass me by because I was too caught up in anger.

I saw how it was impacting my relationships.

I DECIDED to change. I realized that it's no one else's responsibility how I feel. It's up to ME. I started doing things each day that would create opportunities for joy and happiness.

I started meditating regularly. I started going in the pool each day to splash around with the kids. I started going to the beach more. I started going on a bike ride or walk each night. I would look up at the sky is be overwhelmed with the beauty of the colors in the sky...as cheesy as that sounds.

I feel lighter, happier, and more joyful than I ever have in my life for NO REASON other than that is what I am choosing.

And you want to know what??? It's had a profound impact on my kids. They are more grateful. They are kinder to each other. They SEE a difference in me and they said it inspires them to be better.

Everything has changed because I changed.

If you want things to change in your life, it all starts with YOU.
