Our highest priority currently for January 2023 for our dogs are: wet dog food, dye-free treats, knuckle bones, and pill pockets. For our cats, we really need wet cat food (patè preferred, but any kind works) cat toys, purina kitten chow, dye-free purina cat chow, and high quality wet kitten food for our sick foster kittens. Dry cat and dog food (any kind, to be able to use for our food bank), Clo

rox clean spray, copy paper, and distilled water for our clinic is always needed. We feed our animals Hills Science Diet (adult cat/dog and puppy/kitten), if you’d like to donate a bag. This delightful gal will wrap you up in a snowstorm of love. From her adorable flappy ears down to her long legs, this spirited pup will make you fall in love with her before you can say "snowflake". ❄ Whoever said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend never owned a Great Dane! This 46-pound girly girl may look delicate, but she can also channel her tomboy side for some fun!

Being part Great Dane, she exhibits many breed characteristics… Once they love, they love steadily, and unchangingly. Great Danes are intelligent dogs who respond well to training because of their eagerness to please their owners. Because of their size and strength, it’s important they are trained from an early age with plenty of positive reinforcement to stop them from pulling on the lead or jumping up. As a mix Blizzy may not get as big as some, but she should still be trained to have good manners and harness some of her puppy energy and excitability. She can be bubbly out on walks, sputtering her range of emotions. She is a beautiful sparkling beauty queen who will add joy to your life.

Rocky is definitely cute with his sad looking face. He is a very sweet boy but he does live up to his name. He is one of the more active kitties in kitty city, but he does like to sleep in one of the cat beds as well. He is a super sweet cat.

Jewel came to us from the only home she ever knew for her 7 years of life, when her previous owner became ill. She came in very confused and unsure but is warming up to the volunteers and staff with a little time. She knows that they are here to give her love and take care of her until she can find a new home. Jewel is a big gentle girl, with a calm/mild energy level.

Maverick (now named Phill), was adopted from us in 2022! We are thrilled to hear how well he's doing, and being the bestest boy as a therapy dog!

Below is an update from his Mom, Brenda:

"I thought you would enjoy seeing the adventures of Phill (shelter name Maverick - adopted Sept 24, 2022). Phill is such an amazing guy. He brings love and joy wherever he goes. He is a wonderful traveler, and has joined me and my family on a multitude of adventures. He serves his community as a therapy dog, bringing comfort to many and helping kids to learn to read. He loves to hike, swim and jump in the waves at the beach. Thank you for taking such good care of Phill, and for allowing him to come in our lives. He brings joy every single day."

** Bo Peep will be visiting the shelter tomorrow, starting at 11am, if anyone wants to meet this sweet girl **

🐾 Foster Friday: Meet BoPeep! 🐶 She is an 8 month old, Spayed Female, Terrier Mix.

Below is what her Foster Mom had to say about her:

“BoPeep or as I call her, Peepers, is just the sweetest little petite girl. She came in extremely emaciated, starved, and wouldn’t have made it much longer if she hadn’t been saved! She is NOT food aggressive in anyway and in fact wags her tail the whole time she is eating. 😊 BoPeep is still a puppy at around 8 months old, but is extremely smart and learns quickly! She has even learned to take treats gently. She LOVES everyone she meets and is good with kids of all ages. She does still have that puppy energy, but after time to run around she settles right down. She would really benefit from long walks or a fenced in yard, and has thrived so much already being in our home. She has quickly become good friends with my dog who is 5 months old but bigger than her. I think she would thrive having another doggie friend to teach her how to be a dog, but it may take her some time to warm up to a new friend. She was around other dogs at her previous residence but they were all in separate outdoor kennels. A Meet and Greet is always recommended for anyone with other dogs.

She is honestly just the sweetest girl who has so much love to give, and she makes sure that you know how much she loves you. She is definitely a Velcro dog and will be by your side to give you plenty of affection and snuggles. I really hope someone out there can give this sweet girl the loving furever home she truly deserves! She has had a crappy start in life but this sweet girl doesn’t let that stop her happy positive outlook on life.”

Our Events and Community Relations Coordinator, Macey, created this adorable video for Miss Boots, complete with her own custom version of “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’”! 🐶 Boots is a petite and sweet 2-year-old Pit Bull Mix with a big heart and so much love to give! She’s super smart and already knows tricks like “sit,” “down,” “paw,” and “kennel up.” She adores snuggling and being close to her favorite humans. She loves going to doggie daycare with her current foster, where she makes new friends and plays all day. House and kennel trained, Boots does best with plenty of brain games (like puzzle toys and Kongs) and active playtime to burn off her energy. She’d thrive in a home with another dog to play with and help her get her zoomies out. Boots prefers dog buddies over cats, so no feline friends for this pup! If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and affectionate companion, Boots is ready to be your girl! 🩵 She is currently in a foster home. For those of you asking for an update on Prudence, the puppy with the skin condition. Prudence is currently in a foster home getting stronger with each day. 🐶 She is better than when she came in, but she has a long road ahead of her to recover physically and mentally. Santa Paws brought Prudence presents.. but she didn't know what to do with them. Prudence doesn't know what a toy is, and certainly doesn't know what to do with it. She also doesn't realize that she is allowed to leave her room/space. We don't really know her past and can only make guesses, none of which are good. Prudence shows the signs of a dog that was kept in a crate or small space constantly, never aloud to leave. If this is true, she could have been living in her own feces, food/water spills, and just super un-hygenic area. Lack of care, lack of nutrition, and poor living conditions. All of these things could have contributed to why she looks the way she does now, also why she doesn't understand a lot and needs a lot of help to learn and accept things. We hope Prudence thrives as time allows her to heal from her past, but in the meantime we know she is in amazing hands with her wonderful foster mom. 🩵 We are still taking donations to help with her care: https://wicomicohumane.org/donate/

Today is the big day! It’s Giving Tuesday! 🐶😸 We are so appreciative of everyone that has already donated to us through Shore Gives More. Our dogs want to give a huge thank you to Murrie Wall for the donation of 5 brand new pools, and Jackie Wood for picking them up! We’ve had a few others donated in our lobby that we weren’t sure who they were from, but thank you to you all as well! As you can see, our dogs love splashing around on hot days. Some of them love each other so much, that they all insist on sharing one pool! If you’re looking for a pup to be your dog’s sibling, we have so many wonderful dog friendly dogs. Twix, Kimbrel, and Leo (in the video) and Burton (not in the video, somewhere sulking that his BFF, J.R., got adopted, while we’re all happy for a great “foster fail”) are our play group rockstars because they all love frolicking around with their bros. Can one of them be your dog’s forever bro?

Burton and J.R. had so much fun playing together yesterday! Are you looking for a dog friendly dog to give your current pup a sibling/playmate? Well, thanks to our amazing kennel staff (especially our rockstar playgroup matcher, Stephanie) we know which dogs would love to be your dog’s new BFF! Burton and J.R. were having the time of their lives together (until I walked up and J.R. wanted some love, but Burton said, “come on dude, we see her all the time! Come back and play with me!” 🤣) and they would love to continue that level of play in a forever home. Brock is another dog that’s currently in a foster home with FOUR other dogs, doing wonderfully, and we have tons of other amazing pups that are dog friendly as well. As a result, we rely on the support of the public and our community in the form of donations, bequests and fundraising events.
