Murphy's Legacy
Murphy Hill Farm was founded to continue the loving legacy of our friend, Murphy. Murphy was only with us for 4 years, but left an enduring memory. Our loss of Murphy can be directly attributed to the breeder. His blood line has a history of cancer, and by us buying a puppy from them, we have given them incentive to continue taking advantage of people and these wonderful Goldens.
Because of Murphy, we have come to know the Golden for the loving family friends that they are. Murphy died of cancer at 4 years, having fought the disease for half his life. He was a marvelous companion, and because of the practices of one particular breeder, he was given such a short time to live. A loss such as this should not be tolerated before nature's normal call. Because of Murphy, we have been left with a commitment to offer family companions that will live a full life. Over the past 35 years we have been active in purebred dogs. Breeds that we have owned, bred and shown include the Afghan Hound, Cocker Spaniel, Doberman Pinscher, Australian Shepherd and most recently the Golden Retriever. All animals have a pre-disposition towards one disease or another, some can be averted and some cannot. It is our intention to do what we can by educating prospective Golden owners and occasionally breeding puppies that have as small a risk as possible to the issues that challenge their long term life. Goldens experience cancer, hip dysplasia, congenital eye defects, skin allergies and blood coagulation, not unlike many other breeds. Usually these ailments are perpetuated through irresponsible breeding, and they most certainly can be lessened by responsible breeding practices. Risk for contracting these ailments can be significantly reduced by researching the blood line of the dog you are considering and by selecting a breeder that has minimized these issues. Our goal is to provide loving companions that can help to heal the recent loss of others' pets through the love and legacy of Murphy; and we are very blessed that more than 80% of our customers have been just that. Although it breaks our hearts to meet so many nursing the heartbreak of losing a loved family member, it also helps to further heal our loss of Murphy to pass on love and healing through our puppies!
