Had to put a wedge frog support pad with dental impression material on a horse today with a injury, the vet wanted the horse stood up to keep pressure off the tendons. I’ve been doing this on this horse for a couple months and it’s working great! The horse has gone from hardly able to walk to getting around normal with minimal swelling!

This is very true! I encourage all my clients to stay on a schedule to keep horses going good and staying sound!

The correct choice of shoes and trim is so important to help maintain not only the health of the hoof but the health of the joints as well. Many people do not realize that having imbalanced abnormal angles or allowing the toe to get too long results in excessive strain on the joints and tendons within the leg. Chronic or repetitive strain can lead to permanent changes within the joint and/or irreversible injury to the soft tissue structures. This is why it is so important to have a good relationship with a farrier and schedule regular visits every 6 weeks. This issue is very common in many of the front end lamenesses we see.
