My goal as a business owner is to not only do the best job that I can for people; but to make all my customers feel important by making each visit to me personal. It's a new year! 2022 went by all too quickly. we were blessed with so many new customers. We enjoyed welcoming new families to the valley and look forward to getting to know them and their pets! Julian (my son) is headed into his secon

d year of being a full time bather. He now has his own clients and workdays. we will be starting intro to grooming with him this summer. He loves this business as much as I do and I'm so thankful he can take some of that labor off of me �. So please if you come in while he's working make sure to tell him great job!

So what's new for 2023?! Actually not a whole lot is changing. But i would like to remind everyone of my policies going into the new year.
� This is a family business and I am by appointment only. So please be respectful of my time. If you need to show up any earlier than 15 minutes before your appointment please talk to me about it. My space is limited so I need customers to drop off/pick up as close to their apt times as possible. If you are late for your appointment, 10 minutes is all I can give you before requiring you to reschedule. I do not think it is fair to make my other customers after you late just because you were. I need you to pick up your pet within 30 min of them being done. Again my space is limited. we are planning on taking appointments Mon/tue, thur-sat. through the school year (sep-may) bath dogs will be on Fridays/Saturday. groom dogs will be scheduled Mon/tue/thur and Friday as needed.
� All missed appointments or cancelations within 24 hrs will result in a fee of 50% of your groom cost added to your account. That fee needs to be paid at the next appointment. All new customers who miss that first appointment that fee will need to be paid BEFORE I will book you again.
� I am going into my 20th year of grooming. As much as I love this business it is taking its toll on my body. The last few years have made me realize that if I want to continue, then I need to make some adjustments in order to stay healthy. I am not accepting any new large dog clients for haircuts. And depending on my physical health I may need to recommend another groomer for my current ones at one point. Large dogs to me are anything I can't pick up comfortably. If I can't accept your pet don't worry! We have a few other wonderful groomers in our area that I can recommend.

Today Julian observed some grooming techniques then had to groom his own dog. Rascal (10 yrs) has never had a haircut and continually looked at me with eyes that I'm sure said...does he know what he's doing? Lol But he was a trooper and Julian did great. He constantly asked questions and double checked himself. He's going to be a great addition to the grooming community!

Tomorrow he starts with real clients. For his training he has to groom 100 dogs with me. After which I will evaluate if he can be on his own. I will check all his grooms when finished for his first year. Then by the power of Barking Spot Grooming (and his mom 😉) he will be deemed an official groomer making commission. Wish him luck!

We have some very exciting news at Barking Spot Grooming! After 8 years of bathing dogs for me, Julian will begin his grooming training this summer! This kid has impressed me so much this last year with his attention to detail, dog handling, and customer connection. It is now time for him to grow his skills in the grooming industry.

Julian will begin his training and taking appointments in June. If you book with him you will recieve 15% off during his training months. A few things to keep in mind:
*Julian has been part of the BSG crew officially for over 2 years: bathing, brushing, nail trims, ear cleaning, and light trimming dogs of all sizes.
* During training I will be with him every step of the way instructing him on breed cuts, shave downs, hand sc******ng, and pet safety.
*It took me years to get my grooming timing down to what it is now, so keep in mind Julian will take longer on his grooms than you are used to. However, you will still be charged by my time instead if his. 😉

This will be a great addition this year as it will allow us to go back to doing haircuts on ALL size dogs. Julian is a huge animal lover and kind soul so I hope you will give him the chance to learn if you have the opportunity to do so. Because like any service....you gotta start somewhere!

Just a note for his current bath clients, Julian will still be doing his bath and brush dogs on Fridays 😁.

Good afternoon pet family! I wanted to drop a reminder note regarding my no show/cancellation policy.

Being in this business for 20 years it took me a bit to realize i needed boundaries and clear policies with my customers. Trying to decide fair prices in this industry and in this community is never easy. And every year I review what the average groom cost is in our surrounding towns and try to keep it a little less. I have not raised my base prices since 2022. I have, however, "spoiled" my customers with constant discounts throughout the years because I love to do so. But I had to stop doing that this year with the exception of the senior discount and occasional holiday specials. So to many it looked like prices increased but really they just weren't getting a discount anymore.

Dealing with pricing is my least favorite thing about owning a business. You will never make everyone happy. The last few years have been tough on everyone with the cost of living going up so much in our community. Mortgage, groceries, supplies, taxes, wood,...we've seen it in everything. In order to be able to pay those higher prices, the discounts had to go....and I got a second job. I own a business, work a second pt job while my husband works a full time and 2 part time jobs...and it still feels like a struggle. I'm not complaining as I know everyone is going through it. And we all will do what is necessary to continue to live.

So when the service providers I use raise their prices, I never complain. Because I know they also are doing what they need to. Do I love it? NO. But I'm still going to support them. I realize I won't be able to groom forever. My body won't let me. I'm not a spring chicken anymore! 🤣. So I book the most pets I know I can handle knowing how much I need to make per day to support my family. Then I book 1 more knowing there's a 50% chance someone will not show up. When I have several no shows a day, that very much hurts my budget. I have had weeks that I could not get the groceries I wanted to or pay my power bill because 1/3 of my clients didn't show.

My no show policy is not a new thing. It's been in place for over 6 years. And I'm not going to pick and choose who has to follow that policy. Otherwise what's the point of having one. So whether you've been a loyal customer for 10 years, or you're new to us this year, I expect the same respect from everyone in following them. I am a pretty understanding person, especially if an emergency comes up. If my customers don't show up for their appointment, I still show up, I still have to pay my bather, lights, heat, etc. and if I mess up an appointment and have to reschedule you, I always give that same discount in return. I take that hit because I messed up.

I've always been pretty personal with my clients. You are why I have a business. And I appreciate you and hope you feel the same about me. I just want to share that just because I have a business does not mean I'm rolling in the $$$. We have the same struggles as any other middle class family. Ours are not any worse than the next family's. But they are real and we also do what we need to to survive.
On that note I appreciate each of you and am thankful for the respect you continue to give. Because I love caring for your pets.

Updated Policies for 2024:

✔️We will not be raising our prices this year. (Last price increase was October 2022). But we will no longer offer a cash discount. Prices are $55/hour with a minimum of 15 minutes. ($14/15 min, $28/30min, $42/45min.) We do offer a senior discount for 65+. Just tell us your birthday! 🥳

✔️We are by appointment ONLY. If our sign says "closed" and the door is locked, please message us and we will get back to you when the shop is open. 🤗

✔️The shop voicemail does not work. I will answer during working hours if I can. But the quickest way to reach us is by texting or FB message. ☎️🤳
