What does my posture tell you?
A. This is a trust fall human ... catch me with belly rubs.
B. I have a back ache. May need some extra cuddles.
C. I may seem relaxed now, but if I hear the treat bag, I’m flipping faster than a pancake!" 🥞🐾

The answer is C.

😆 But in all seriousness, what does it mean when a dog shows you his belly? It can mean a few different things depending on the context:

1. Trust and Submission: Exposing the belly is a sign of trust, showing they feel safe and comfortable with you. It’s also a gesture of submission, signaling that they acknowledge you as a safe, non-threatening presence.

2. Request for Attention or Belly Rubs: Many dogs love belly rubs, so lying on their back could be a way of saying, “Hey, scratch here, please!”

3. Cooling Off or Getting Comfortable: Sometimes, especially on a warm day or after some play, dogs lie on their backs to cool down or stretch out in a comfortable position.

4. Playfulness: In play, a dog might roll on their back as part of the fun, especially with trusted humans or other friendly dogs. This could also be their way of inviting interaction!

The Basenji or Africa's “Barkless Dog” is a unique breed and contender for the title of oldest AKC breed. While it's true the Basenji doesn't bark, when they express themselves they make a unique sound that is something between a chortle and a yodel. The reason? This breed's larynx shape prevents it from barking in the traditional sense. Certain breeds of dogs tend not to bark much as others.

Ever wonder what your dog remembers? 🤔

👉Dogs don't recall events like humans do, but they use associative memory, meaning they don't remember specific events but instead connect experiences with emotions.

👉They link people, places, and things with positive or negative experiences. For example, if your dog had a bad experience at the vet, they may associate the place with fear.

👉But with consistent positive reinforcement and training, you can shift these associations to more positive ones – and live a happier life together with our dogs!
