Help you pets prepare for the spooky weekend:
🎃 Exercise dogs prior to normal trick or treat times. Reduces built up energy.
🎃 Make sure pets are wearing a collar with CURRENT ID information.
🎃 Consider sedatives for those pets who have stranger anxiety.
🎃 Keep pets away from the front door to prevent bolting out when you answer.
🎃 Play calming music for pets on your smart speaker.
🎃 Keep candy out of your pet’s reach.
🎃 Make sure costume for pets are pet safe, humane and comfortable.

Sweet Gus
Be still, my beating heart! I’m not sure if you can appreciate the intensity of his putting in the video. Gus the handsome man cat purrs like a finely tuned muscle car.
Gus came in for his neuter surgery, Temp Scan Microchip implant and vaccines today with Dr. Olschewski. As you can see, Gus was not stressed out at all to be in the hospital. Check out Hims cute lil tongue blep as he came out of surgery. After a short time Gus was up, ready for a snack and to play with Curious George. Once he was done wrestling he snuggled back into Curious George for a cat nap and melted our hearts once again.

It’s a heckin’ gouda day when this fine boi is in the clinic.
Gouda the flame point floof came in for a dental prophylaxis today. However, due to recent asthma attacks Dr. Conway decided it was in Gouda’s best interest to postpone the procedure due to increased anesthetic risk. We take anesthesia very seriously. Our patient’s health and safety is our top priority.
Gouda didn’t see to mind. He made sure everyone who walked by got a snuggle in. Hims very generous with the head slams and rubber-dubbers. He also made some excellent biscuits with Hims mittens. This might sound cheesy, but we think Gouda is really grate.

Animal Pain Awareness Month - Cats
This is Pixie, Veterinary Technician Kim's mature full figured feline. Pixie suffered a traumatic injury to her right shoulder as a kitten. Last fall Pixie stumbled while descending her 7' cat tower, falling most of the way down, aggravating her arthritic shoulder. Anyone who owns a cat knows they're masters of masking illness and injury. Pixie is no exception. As you can see in the video, she was in a lot of pain.
Dr. Conway evaluated her and took x-rays. Her x-rays revealed she had broken off some built up arthritic deposits in her shoulder joint. Dr. Conway prescribed pain medication, Onsior (feline NSAID), Cosequin and physical therapy. Cats are very sensitive to NSAID use and our choices in Veterinary Medicine are limited. Losing weight would also help relieve stress from her shoulder.
Pixie started with acupuncture with Dr. Bayliff, formerly of Pet Care Animal Hospital. Next Pixie went to see Dr. McCall at Utah Pet Rehab & Acupuncture Center for hydrotherapy and laser therapy. Pixie shocked the staff with her complete acceptance of the underwater treadmill. Even though she would only engage three legs at a time. Pixie continued hydrotherapy and laser therapy weekly for three months. She shed three pounds in the process!

National Animal Pain Awareness Month
"Animal Pain Awareness Month coincides with human medicine's Pain Awareness Month. This is because animals suffer from pain just like people do. Pain comes in many forms: surgical pain, pain from injury, arthritis and cancer related pain. Acute pain is obvious and distressing. Chronic pain can be subtle, and masked as "getting old" or "slowing down". Age is not a disease, but pain is." - International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management
Dr. McLain adopted 13 yr old labrador, Sally Hufflepuff in 2018. Sally came with significant osteoarthritis and limited mobility due to arthritic pain. Dr. McLain utilized some of the best pain management tools veterinary medicine has to offer to help Sally's golden years be as comfortable as possible. Sally was on Hill's Prescription Diet j/d Joint Care dog food. She took amantadine for nerve pain and Rimadyl, a NSAID specifically formulated for dogs. Recieved Adequan injections to reduce inflammation, decrease pain, inhibit cartilage loss and it stimulates activity in existing cartilage, improving joint fluid to help renew joint mobility. Sally also had regular physical therapy, including hydrotherapy and laser therapy at Utah Pet Rehab & Acupuncture Center. Comfort at home is key for arthritic doggos. Sally's Ruffwear Web Master Harness was a great handle to use to comfortably assit her into a standing position. She also had plush orthopedic beds to prevent pressure sores and achy joints from laying for prolonged periods of time.

Osso is a handsome mature Husky who came in for his annual wellness exam. We brought him to our treatment room to collect some samples to ensure he is aging as gracefully inside as he is outside. While in the treatment room Osso dazzled is with a lovely serenade. Please enjoy. 🐾💕
