Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome

What is brachycephalic airway syndrome? This syndrome is caused by anatomic changes, such as an elongated soft palate, narrow opening to the nose (stenotic nares), extra tissues around the vocal cords (everted laryngeal saccules), and a narrow trachea, all of which can decrease air flow to the lungs. This syndrome is commonly seen in breeds such as French Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, and Pugs.

Dogs with this syndrome display excess panting, overheating, and/or excessive noise from the mouth or nose.

This photo below shows a before and after of an elongated soft palate reduction, where a cautery tool is used to remove a small ‘flap’ of tissue to allow full oxygen flow.

Beautiful, cool weather means no more fleas and no need for flea control, right?

WRONG!

Like any bug in our area, once the weather cools down and frosts, fleas are seen much less than the warm summer months. But did you know “flea season” is year round in Mississippi? With year round fleas comes the need for year round prevention!

Meet Roxie 🐾🐾🐾

Roxie is an 8 week old, 3lb Shih Tzu belonging to one of our long term clients. She visited us today for a health exam and to start her monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention!

We can’t wait to watch this little baby grow!
