Cher has been going through it. This photo was taken at the emergency vet earlier this week. She has struggled to gain weight her whole life since she suffered a persistent infection (not uncommon with bottle fed kittens), but this last week she stopped eating altogether and started vomiting. It was so sad to see since she was almost recovered before this.

After one unproductive emergency vet visit and an appointment with our regular veterinarian, it was confirmed she has coccidia which weakened her body causing her to be more susceptible to viral infections that opened her up to a secondary bacterial infection.

It's been a few days on the new treatment plan and she's got a belly again! She's back to eating, gaining weight, and has her chaotic diva energy restored. It'll take about a month to fully recover, but it's relieving to see some improvement.

ADOPTION UPDATE

Prickly Pear, now Hades, came to the rescue as a feral kitten. After months of socialization, he was adopted and is absolutely THRIVING 😍 He is a total love bug who adores his new furry friends and humans. We're so happy for you, Hades!

We have an all black, void baby in the rescue 🌌 Debbie came to us at just under 2 weeks old from Dave Buster Rescues. Today, she is thriving at almost 8 weeks old! Baby girl is starting her shots and ready for a foster or foster-to-adopt home ❤️

Handsome brothers Mouse and Jasper came to the rescue after their owners learned they unfortunately couldn't take them to their new home. Though we don't usually take many owner surrenders, these boys are suspected to have Feline Leukemia so we made an exception. They'll be getting all caught up on medical care and will be ready for adoption in about 2 months 😺 until then, they'll be spoiled rotten with pets and treats.

This lil man is almost two weeks old now. He was brought in by a community member who found him covered in mud. Thankfully, since he was brought in quickly, he is thriving! His eyes are now just about open and he's a champ at chugging his bottles.

Here's our good boy of the day, Saguaro! He's been in foster care for a year now. He is the sweetest love bug and has made friends with every single cat he's met 🐈 It's almost ridiculous to think about how he came to Stevie's Galaxy as a feral kitten considering how he's just a pile of mush these days.

Gordita Supreme was adopted 🥳 after being in foster care for about a year, she went to a lovely home where she has another Feline Leukemia positive cat to hang out with. They have very quickly become best friends. So happy for this girl 😭

Sheepsquatch is on the mend! Doesn't she look so much more lively? She kept trying to grab my hands for pets and didn't understand I was taking a photo 😂

I'm so relieved her breathing is back to normal and the URI symptoms are under control. Also no more fever or need for fluids! Wahoo!

Sheepsquatch gave us quite the scare this week! There is a kitty cold going around causing nasal congestion, dehydration, and inappetence. Heart and lungs have been clear, sick babies have been getting all the supportive care needed, and the started recovering.

All except Sheepy.

Sheepsquatch started having excessive eye/nasal discharge and moved to open mouth breathing. This is normal when congested- people do it all the time. But then it became more and more labored, and then the breathing became more and more shallow with no signs of improvement.

After doing steam sessions, administering subcutabeous fluids, giving antibiotics, adding vitamin/mineral/antiviral supplements to their food, and using a nasal aspirator to suck out the gunk with no success, and reading a body temperature of 104.0°F, Sheepy went off the the vet.

Fortunately, with all the supportive care given by Stevie's Galaxy, not much work needed to be done at the vet. She had a hangout session in the oxygen tank and started stronger medications to keep her comfortable.

So far, she seems to be improving with the ramped up meds! I'm so relieved to see Sheepy return to her usual self.

This cryptid is ready to be adopted! And who wouldn't want to wake up to that face every day? Nightcrawler is a darling girl who plays hard and naps harder. She's round, her tongue constantly sticks out, and she loves snuggling on your chest. What could be better?

Not only does Stevie's Galaxy ensure ALL base vaccines are covered, but we also vaccinate for Feline Leukemia. All adoptable cats are spayed/neutered, SNAP tested, dewormed, and and microchipped as well.

Stephen King and Pennywise are two peas in one very cozy pod. They've been inseparable since birth and still insist on doing everything together now that they're 6 months old. Naps, playtime, mealtimes... but there is plenty of room in their hearts, and they try to befriend every creature they meet. They also both ask for what we call "uppies", or to be held like babies, by standing up and gently tapping your legs 🥺

Say hello to one of the rescue's youngest babies! He is the only male in his litter of four. All four are exceptionally affectionate, though. Stranger danger? Never heard of it. If you have a lap, you're in. If you have hands to pet them, even better.

These babies have a negative SNAP test and dewormer complete, but are still working through the FVRCP+FeLV vaccine series. We go above and beyond by vaccinating for Feline Leukemia, a disease with a life expectancy of about 2 years. At the time of adoption, each cat is fully vaccinated (including rabies and Feline Leukemia), SNAP tested, dewormed, flea treated, altered, and microchipped.

Baby Butter is creature filled with divine feminine rage. She will hunt anything, anywhere, any time, no matter how big or small. She eats my hair, chews on my clothes, tries to eat my face, and lunges for me when I walk.

Part of this behavior is just normal, kitten shenanigans, but most of it is because of Single Kitten Syndrome. Butter doesn't have siblings, and she needed to stay quarantined from other cats into she passed all her health checks. This means she never learned appropriate behaviors. She never got feedback from other cats that she's biting too hard or scratching too much.

Now that she can socialize with the other cats, her behavior is mellowing. Her cuddly side comes out more. She's starting to respond to negative feedback. She gives kisses, purrs like a machine, and loves snuggle time.

This is all part of raising bottle-fed kittens. Socializing them is a slow process. Every interaction is done with intention, and it takes quite a bit of patience. But it is SO worth it when you start to see the payoff! When the weeks or months of work shine through, when you watch them follow the boundaries you set all on their own... it makes it all worth it.

I'm not sure we have a normal photo of Sheepsquatch. She spends most of her time lounging on her back or snuggled up in someone's lap. Sheepy is the most mellow, laid back, happy kitty. Though nervous around dogs, she is great with cats and young children.

Nightcrawler (7mo, female) is adoptable! Her favorite hobbies include organized crime and carrying around stuffed animals. She is the mightiest jumper, fiercest bug hunter, sneakiest food thief, and has both the best bleps AND the roundest face this side of the Mississippi! Don't worry, because she's also quite cuddly and enjoys napping on your chest. She is nervous around dogs, but does fine with cats and young children.

Made of sugar, spice, and everything nice, Pennywise and Stephen play nice with even the youngest children, other cats, and dogs. Haul them around like a sack of potatoes, wear them as a scarf.. they couldn't care less. In fact, they demand it.

Sheepsquatch had us fooled for months! He went in for a neuter with three other kittens and left having gotten spayed! Turns out they were a female all along!

Sweet Baby Butter is growing! She's still petite at just under 2lbs, but happy as can be. Poor girl has one of the most persistent coccidia infections I've seen in a while- multiple rounds of meds have been administered and she's STILL not clear!

Due to the coccidia and the fact that she's a growing girl, Butter eats up to 6 cans of food per day plus her dry food snackies! We're doing everything we can to help her kick this parasite.

Hello Gordita Supreme! Gordita is a snuggly, cuddly teenager ready to be adopted. She is curious, affectionate, playful, and has a whole lot of purrsonality packed into her petite body. Ms. Supreme makes friends with every creature she meets and has no stranger danger.

The fates decided her winning personality and precious face were too perfect for this world, so she was born Feline Leukemia (FeLV) positive. This means she'll be here for a good time, not a long time. Families with dogs or other FeLV cats would be ideal for this sweet little troublemaker.

Our sweet baby Butter is growing up! She came from Dave Buster Rescues last month and just turned 7 weeks old. Butter is so advanced, she hasn't even asked for a bottle in about a week! Her favorite pastimes these days (when she's not eating everything) are hunting my toes, my pants, my fingers, and my hair 🤦

What a face from Sheepsquatch 😂 He is just shy of 6 months old and is ready for adoption!

Being bottle fed from birth, Sheepy is insanely cuddly. He adores people and just wants to snooze in your lap all day long. Pets are his favorite thing, and he's sure to tell you if you're not giving him the attention he deserves. Actually, he was complaining here that I was taking a photo and not loving him.

Sheepsquatch will thrive with any sort of companion and is incredible with young children.

Nightcrawler at 3 weeks and now at 5 months! She has transformed from a curious, intelligent neonate into an absolute food goblin. This girly will steal donuts, cookies, spaghetti, asparagus, popcorn, cheese, and anything else left out 😂

When she's not busy leading the local criminal scene, she's curled up in a lap snoozing and recharging for the next crime spree.
