Calaveras County Animal Services Calaveras County Animal Services. Assisting the community through public outreach, education and awareness. (209) 754-6509

Animal Services' main responsibility is, via licensing, ensuring all dogs have current vaccinations to help prevent the spread of rabies. We strongly encourage spaying and neutering to prevent pet overpopulation. We strive to find forever homes for the animals brought into our shelter, and we work closely with several shelters and rescues to transfer some of our critters to other locations so they

can find a forever home there. We are extremely proud of our high rate of good outcomes! We also offer microchipping for $15, and all animals adopted from us leave here with a registered microchip.

GEORGE

Meet GEORGE, a delightful short-haired brown tabby and beige older kitten. George was found wandering around a neighborhood all alone and was brought to the shelter by a kind person who unfortunately could not keep him. George is super sweet and affectionate. He loves being petted and getting gentle head scratches. He is quite playful and always looking for some kitty action. George has never met a human he did not want to be his friend. He would be a wonderful family or companion cat in an active home where he will get lots of love and attention. Since George is already neutered, he can go home with you right away.

ROXY

Meet ROXY, a beautiful short-haired black young adult. Roxy was abandoned when she was very pregnant and was lucky to be brought to the shelter by a good Samaritan. Roxy went into foster care with a wonderful caregiver and soon after gave birth to 5 beautiful kittens. The family was lovingly cared for until her kittens were old enough to return to the shelter. Roxy was an excellent momma and now that her kittens are almost all adopted, Roxy is ready for a home of her own. She is a big gal, with a sleek, super shiny coat and lean, muscular body. Roxy is very sweet, affectionate, and, at times, can be quite talkative. Roxy’s foster mom says she is smart, enjoys laps, but still has a bit of kitten playfulness in her and enjoys playing with a feather wand. Roxy will be a wonderful companion or family cat in a home where she can get the love and attention she deserves.

ARTEMIS & APOLLO

Meet ARTEMIS (Female-one patch on eye) and APOLLO (Male)-two patches), gorgeous short-haired black and white kittens. A good Samaritan brought them to the shelter after finding them in the road near his home. The kittens are a bit shy but respond to being petted and are becoming more and more trusting and friendly every day. Artemis and Apollo seem to be attached to one another and hopefully will be adopted together so they will continue to blossom with the comfort of their best friend by their side. They need a home with patient caregivers who will give them lots of love and attention as they adjust to their new environment.

Sadly, Penny has a microchip with info that is no longer valid.

She was running down Mountain Ranch Road with a nice new collar and leash.

Penny is a confident dog with both people and other dogs.

She is enjoying all the attention she is getting and returns the affection.

She is learning leash manners easily..

Penny may be a bit nervous when first greeting another dog; within a couple of moments, she wants to play.

A meet 'n greet is required if you have another dog.

Meet PEARL, a lovely short-haired gray adult, with a tuft of white on her chest. She was brought to the shelter by a kind man who saw her roaming his neighborhood for about a month and then found out her owner had passed away. Pearl is about 8 years old and is the ultimate companion kitty––she is super sweet, loves attention and loves being with humans. She can also be very expressive and will let you know when she wants some attention and be close to you. Pearl has now gained back the weight she lost while she was on her own and is ready to be adopted. She is waiting for someone to bring her home and shower her with love and affection which she will gratefully return tenfold. Since Pearl is already spayed, she can go home with you right away.

Roman arrived underweight with Helena, so may have been on his own for a while.

he has fun romping with her in the exercise pen.

Roman is a calm dog who takes direction well.
He has great leash manners and enjoys his walks.
Roman is currently reactive to all the dogs he has met, male and female, large and small,

both on leash and through a fence when off leash.

We continue to introduce him so he can get used to them.

When he is in his safe place, his kennel, he is relaxed when they walk by.

A meet 'n greet is required if you have another dog.

Helena may have been on her own for a while;

she arrived underweight, yet has already gained 2 pounds..
She is a quiet gentle dog who prefers to nestle close to her person.

We believe that Helena has the qualities for an emotional support dog.

She is very good on leash and enjoys going on walks.

Helena likes all the dogs she has met and greets them nicely.

A meet 'n greet is required if you have another dog.

Our sweet Bailey has not been up to her usual self these days and is still waiting for her new owners to come rescue her. After a trip to the vet, we discovered Bailey requires a TPLO procedure (knee surgery). This surgery is quite serious and will require a very patient person who will follow strict post-operative instructions including giving medications, and ensuring strict cage rest initially, followed by physical therapy exercises. The typical recovery period is 8-12 weeks, so fostering Bailey will require a solid commitment. The ideal home for her to recover in is a calm and quiet place – preferably with no children or other pets (and no stairs).

If you think you are the right fit, please submit your application! We will process all applications (foster or adoption) on a first-come first-served basis. Please help us give Bailey the best years to come and call or contact CCAS for additional information.
