**Important Statement regarding our future in San Angelo**

When I first arrived in San Angelo, my mission was clear: to work hand-in-hand with the rescue community to save the lives of pets and empower both shelter employees and pet owners. Sadly, recent decisions by the city government have exposed a troubling lack of understanding and a potential for corruption that we cannot ignore.

The newly formed "Task Force" is filled with individuals who not only lack the necessary experience to address the stray crisis effectively but also display significant biases. These members were meant to bring educated, unbiased perspectives to the table, yet that is far from the reality we face.

After four years of dedication to this town, I found myself discussing the possibility of relocating with April, the sole reason I moved to and have remained in San Angelo. This community desperately needs help, but there is an overwhelming resistance to accepting it. The egos involved here are stifling progress, pushing away those who truly possess the knowledge and expertise needed for meaningful change.

It pains me to continue my work in a place where I know dogs will suffer, no matter how hard I try. While I’ve made a significant positive impact, those in power often overlook these efforts. It’s vital for our community to open its eyes and listen to diverse perspectives, especially from those outside the usual circles. Remember, sometimes those you trust may not have your best interests at heart.

I urge everyone to rally around Concho Valley PAWS —they represent the true opportunity for saving pets and addressing the stray crisis.

As for our training initiatives, we've made the difficult decision to sever ties with all rescues except for CVPAWS. Our plan is to relocate from San Angelo within the next year, but in the meantime, we will continue to offer our services to those who genuinely need and seek assistance.

Perhaps one day, San Angelo will be ready for growth and change, but unfortunately, that day has not yet arrived. This is truly disappointing.

Please join me in wishing our co-owner April a very Happy Birthday! April is basically a superhero who makes our lives easier and I'm ridiculously lucky to have her in my corner. 🎂🥳🐾

Thanks to the cold weather, our indoor classes have opened up a whole other way to learn with a classic classroom environment that allows the owner the ability to retain and process information before applying to their dog. It would be unfair to those who pay for these classes to post and share them in their entirety. However, here is a sampling of Felicia bringing a bit of a comedic spin to the learning table.

Murphy the behavioral board & train here, and let's get real, temps below 32° are no joke for you or your pup. So grab a cup of hot cocoa and check out these tips to keep you and your furry BFF safe and cozy over the next few days.
- Keep walks short and sweet, just long enough for a potty break.
- Slather on some paw balm to protect those adorable paw pads and noses from freeze and wind burn.
- If your dog tolerates clothes (and let's be real, some dogs are total fashionistas, like myself), break out the winter jackets and sweaters for both you and your furry friend.
- And for the love of all things furry, bring those outdoor pets inside or provide a safe and toasty shelter for them to escape the elements. ❄️🐶
-Yes some breeds like the Siberian Husky and Malamute can tolerate colder temps and even may enjoy them. Just be mindful and think safety.
Know your dog's limitations and the signs of frostbite, hypothermia, and other cold weather injuries.
- If you believe your pet may be suffering from a cold weather injury contact your veterinarian immediately.

Welcome Luna to the LNL training family! Luna is doing in-home sessions to work on her basic obedience and address her leash reactivity.
She's already earned a special place with me bc she closely resembles our boy Triumph! Not only in looks, but in temperament as well. She's very sweet and her dog mom is highly motivated and committed to her training, so we know they will do well. 🎓🐾

The terms "submissive" and "dominant" are frequently used to describe a dog's temperament, but this categorization can often be misleading. Many people mistakenly interpret fearful behavior as submission and aggression as a sign of dominance. In reality, fear is an innate response that can manifest in various situations, while submission is a conscious choice made by a dog, often reflecting a willingness to follow or obey rather than a reaction to fear.

Dogs that display dominant or "alpha" traits tend to exhibit calmness, even temper, and a remarkable level of patience. They do not rely on aggression to assert themselves; instead, their confidence allows them to navigate social dynamics with ease. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for dog owners and trainers alike, as it promotes better communication and fosters healthier relationships between dogs and humans. By recognizing the complexity of canine behavior, we can better support our furry companions, ensuring they thrive in a nurturing environment.

I’ve always believed that education is a lifelong journey. I took a leap and enrolled in one of the best and also one of the toughest dog training schools out there, NePoPo.

I just passed the theoretical course, and I’m gearing up for the practical portion soon! My commitment to myself and to all of you is to continuously challenge and improve. I promise to be a better trainer than I was 5 years ago, a year ago, and even a month ago.

Here’s to growth, learning, and making the most of every opportunity! Let’s keep pushing our limits together!

CONSIDERING ADOPTING A DOG?
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO GIVE THIS A READ FIRST.

Adopting a dog is a beautiful journey, but it’s vital to approach it with the right mindset. This decision should never stem from a desire for attention or the urge to appear heroic. It’s not about feeling sorry for a dog in need or succumbing to the pressures of social media. When you choose to adopt, it should be for the dog—because a special connection has sparked between you and the animal, leading you to believe it would be a wonderful addition to your family.

The process of welcoming a dog into your home is not just about the excitement of bringing a pet into your life. It requires patience and understanding. Many dogs, especially those rescued from shelters, need time to adjust and feel comfortable in their new environment. This transition period is crucial for their emotional well-being. You must be ready to provide a safe and nurturing space where they can decompress and build trust with you.

Additionally, adopting a dog comes with responsibilities that go beyond the initial commitment. Dogs require medical care, grooming, and training to thrive. It’s essential to plan for these expenses and ensure that they fit comfortably within your budget. Owning a dog is a long-term commitment, one that can last many years, and it’s vital to be prepared for the ongoing responsibilities that come with it.

When you adopt a dog, you’re not just giving them a home; you’re making a promise to care for them throughout their life. This commitment is an essential part of helping to reduce the number of stray dogs in our communities. Each thoughtful adoption contributes to a larger solution, giving a second chance to those animals who need it most.

In conclusion, if you decide to adopt a dog, let it be a decision rooted in love and understanding. Focus on the dog’s needs, your ability to provide a stable and caring environment, and the long-term responsibilities that come with pet ownership. By doing so, you not only enhance your life but also make a meaningful impact in the world of animal welfare. Embrace this journey with an open heart, and you’ll find that it enriches both your life and the life of your new furry companion.
