The San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization that has served Bexar County and its surrounding areas since 1952. The SAHS shelters, medically treats, and rehabilitates thousands of dogs and cats every year. Many of the dogs and cats in our care have been abused, injured, surrendered by their owners, or found as strays. As a no-kill organization, every treatab

le pet in our care stays in our care until they find a home or necessary placement with another no-kill organization. No pet in our care is ever euthanized to create space. Thousands of dogs and cats in San Antonio and its surrounding areas are saved from euthanasia every year due to the mission and practices of the SAHS. Through our adoption, volunteer, foster, spay/neuter, and educational programs, we inform and educate the public on the importance of responsible pet ownership. We serve as one of the largest dog and cat adoption organizations in San Antonio, Texas, helping to decrease the community’s large pet overpopulation problem in a humane manner. As a local nonprofit, we are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). We do not receive funding from the federal government, the HSUS, or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The most effective way to positively change your local community is by donating to your local nonprofit.

Meet Lunar! She is a super sweet 6-month-old Retriever mix who is looking for a forever family. Lunar was transferred to us in August from another shelter after being found as a stray, so she has already been in our shelter for half of her life! 😭 She is a very lovable girl who thrives on attention from people. We know that she'll make a great addition to a loving family, so if you're looking to provide a forever home to a friendly and loyal best friend, come meet Lunar! ❤️

Bender might have a bit of a grumpy face, but he is secretly a major cuddle bug who wants to be your best friend 😼🥰 He is a handsome 1-year-old guy who was surrendered to us almost a month ago when his previous family could no longer keep him. Bender is definitely on the shy side when you first meet him, but he warms up quickly and then will be all about pets and being next to you! ❤️ This cutie really deserves to find a calm home where he can feel safe to show off his loving personality! If you’re looking for a lap cat to hang out with you for lazy days spent relaxing at home, you should definitely come meet Bender! He can’t wait to join your family 🥹

Meet Ocean Avenue!😍 She is a beautiful 6-year-old Terrier mix who can't wait to find her forever family. This cutie was transferred to us from Bexar County Animal Control in July after her previous owners surrendered her there due to not having time to spend with her. Ocean Avenue is now on the search for a loving family who will give her all of their love and affection!❤️ She is such a happy girl who loves to meet new people, and she has the cutest goofy smile. Ocean Avenue has something called cherry eye which is a condition where a gland on her third eyelid protrudes. She received a surgery to repair it, but it was reversed due to complications. She's doing good now, but her new family is encouraged to consult with their primary veterinarian if they notice any issues in the future. This smart girl already knows how to sit and loves treats too! Ocean Avenue can't wait to meet her forever family, so ask to spend some time with her today and fall in love with this fun pup.😊

Meet the most gorgeous girl, Olive Oyl! 😊 She is a 3-year-old Shepherd who came to us from another local shelter. Olive Oyl has the most beautiful loving brown eyes and the cutest floppy ears! She enjoys playing with toys but her favorite pastime is to play fetch! 🤩 Due to her size and energy, she would do best in a family with children over 12.
