Houston has graduated!
We did 6 private lessons with this little dude and the progress has been so rewarding to see.
When we first met he was a fence fighter, he was anxious and fearful even in his own front yard, he was going potty in the house and causing lots of chaos overall.
We firstly addressed the baseline structure needed in the house, then we taught them how to build a meaningful relationship with him through training and play. We taught him how to play tug properly to give him and his owners not only an outlet for his energy but also to help build their relationship and establish clear communication even through high arousal.
A scared dog might be willing to accept food, but they will never be willing to engage in play. Using play to rehabilitate fear and anxiety is such a great way to reveal the genuine mindset of the dog in front of you as well as being a great outlet for their desire to chase and catch and thrash.
Houston isn’t having any accidents in the house, yet we never directly addressed potty training. Simply fixing up the baseline foundation led to the unwanted behaviors disappearing.
He is now a confident little dog that will recall on a dime, climb trees that once terrified him, and remain neutral around new people and dogs.
We addressed his structure, we addressed their relationship, we sprinkled in a little obedience and a lot of play, and 6 weeks later we’ve got a new and improved dog.
