🇺🇸As the Independence Day Holiday weekend approaches, GDTX Early Canine Program Manager Martha Menchaca has some tips to help you keep your 🦮 furry friends safe:

1. Keep dogs secured inside your home.
2. Give them a safe place to hide.
3. Use ambient sound (radio/TV) to make the noise.
4. Update IDs and microchips just in case!
5. Skip the celebration and stay home with them.
6. Keep them busy...a treat toy can help distract them.

Today I had to say goodbye to my best dog ever. She brought joy to people in hospitals, nursing homes, and an Alzheimer’s facility. She helped kids with their reading, she visited schools to talk about the importance of therapy dogs. She helped college students to de-stress during their finals. And in her free time she enjoyed swimming, kayaking and lots and lots of treats. Miracle your were a special dog and I miss you already.

She is 14th years old and she is still doing a good job! Today a the Potranco Library, where we go for the kids to read to Miracle through the R.E.A.D (Reading Education Assistance Dog) program, a girl asked Miracle what book she wanted to be read to her, Miracle pointed to the "Splat the Cat" book. Who says dogs don't like cats? 😂
