December was another productive month of traveling and training veterinary professionals to use Global FAST® point-of-care ultrasound! One stop was Oahua, Hawaii, where we were blessed with some time to take in the sights.

Course participants learned practical, case-based applications for AFAST®, TFAST® and Vet BLUE® lung ultrasound in lecture, then spent the afternoon practicing life-saving, hands-on screening skills. ⁠It was a pleasure working with the team at to make point-of-care ultrasound a new core skill.

Are you out there in FASTVet Nation imaging eyes. Dr Jane Cho's Chapter 14: Focused Eye in our textbook is how I learned to do eyes! You have 2 options - directly on the cornea or safer and less risky through the eyelid. You MUST use non-caustic cornea safe acoustic coupling gel so make sure its safe for eyes. If you are unsure- sterile KY Jelly is a go to that you may use it just lacks the holding power of the acoustic coupling gel and a "stand-off" is harder with KY Jelly. Just like any other fluid filled organ, gallbladder and urinary bladder, the eye is really easy to image and screen for pathology. Here is a Screech Owl with head trauma. The lens is in the correct place (birds have really large lenses), the retina is intact and there is no obvious inflammation within the posterior chamber!
