I grew up in a great family with two amazing brothers and an awesome sister...and LOTS of pets. I was "that kid" in the family that always wanted a pet or found a lost pet. I launched campaigns to help return the pet to their home or to find them

a new home. I caught pet mice, gerbils, and hamsters that escaped in pet stores or friends homes. In 2013 I retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service and relocated to Boerne, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. As I looked back on my career and gazed into my future, I decided it was time to pursue my passion, photography. So I turned the settings for my camera and my life off automatic and I have never looked back. I use a story-telling style of photography to capture stunning images of the special relationship between people and their pets. I enjoy donating my time to photograph for pet rescues or to assist with admin tasks. I self-published a book called The Tails of the Alamo City- A Dog's Adventure Guide with my dear friend, Jackie Flanders of Jacqueline K Photography in 2021. We sold 250 copies and donated $8K to United States War Dogs. I am working on my second book called, The Tails of the Hill Country - A Dogs' Adventure Guide with another fabulous photographer, Cassi Hart of Cassi Hart Pet Photography. Our goal is 100 books and $100,000 for the fall of 2024. Bachelors of Fine Art, Digital Photography with Honors, Art Institute of San Antonio

Sharon van Rouwendaal of the Netherlands braved a 10,000-meter race in the Seine to take home the gold medal, and she did it all for her dog. Rio, a Pomeranian named after her last Olympic gold in Brazil, passed away in May, after complications from a lung surgery. Van Rouwendaal said her "world stopped" and she couldn't think about swimming for weeks following his passing. "But then my dad said… 'just do one more race and give it everything and swim for him.' So I had a tattoo three days after the cremation and I said, ‘Let’s try it and I will swim for him with my whole heart’ — and I did it — I won for him.'" The swimmer led for the first half of the two-hour marathon race, then dropped back a position before rallying to a strong finish in Rio's honor. As she emerged from the river, she pointed at a tattoo on her wrist of Rio's little paw print. She got her gold, and now he gets the 14/10 he so clearly deserved.

A Happy Birthday 🎂🥳 🎉 shout out to Whitley Cheatham at Dog Training Elite San Antonio . Whitley has greatly supported Ares & Emzy Pet Photography and many of my fundraising events for the United States War Dogs Association. Whitley sponsored my Tails of the Alamo City book, and in 2023, she opened her facility on her day off to host Kibble Katching. During that event, I raised $400 for US War Dogs. Whitley personally tossed more goldfish & cheese that day 🤣 and she was dog gone accurate, too! Today, I raise my root beer for you, Whitley, to thank you and wish you a happy birthday!

Today’s Joy perfect, don’t you think?

This poem is flying its way around the world again thanks to the amazing (pinch me)

I think these words are especially important in January when joy may seem to be absent because actually, she comes visiting all year round, we just have to fully let her in when she finds those cracks. And she does.

Wishing you a day of life in all its messy everythingness, lucky us.

As we close out this final day in 2023, it is 123123 (thank you, Maryruth Glogowski, for reminding me). I want to post some business metrics I am proud of and grateful to have achieved. I was awarded three Bronze Awards for my images in the 2023 International Pet Photographer of the Year Competition. In February, with the ever-gracious host Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming Stone Oak, I photographed “Maui is our Valentine” and donated over $900. to help Maui and his owner with the cost of his cancer treatment. On March 13, 2023, on National K9 Veteran’s Day, I launched my second book to benefit the United States War Dogs Association called Tails of The Hill Country A Dogs Adventure Guide. After a considerable boost from Teamwork Financial TOP DOG sponsorship in July and three additional GOOD DOG sponsors, Magnolia Turf Company, Wagmore Pet Resort, and most recently, Ivy League Canine Academy, along with photo sessions and product sales, I have earned well over $11,500. in sponsorship for the United States War Dogs Association organization through the Book Project alone. And the final numbers are not in for 2023! This does not include the Kibble Catch donation, unrelated to the book project I made in February 2023.
In December, three outstanding professional pet photographers agreed to join the Book Project in 2024. Look for their details and many new locations and dates on the website for the first part of the New Year. Their participation will expand the range of the project to south Austin, San Marcos & New Braunfels. More importantly, with 4 photographers, we have assured success on this project! Please spread the word and join the project! www.aresemzyphotography.com. Finally, as I tallied the numbers and reviewed my files in 2023 I photographed over 60 dogs. Here are a few happy faces in this video slide show.
