Last Thursday Tex Burns was requested and he went to see one special patient that was missing his own cat. Cat cuddles are the best and you can definitely see how much he loves visiting people. Thanks to his handler, Bev for all the hard work she does.

Tex Burns is visiting the Bulverde assisted living facility. He's bringing smiles and cuddles and they love him for it.

This Saturday, August 10, Shavano Park Fire/EMS was visited by CARE Crisis Assistance Therapy Canines from the Therapy Animals of San Antonio organization for a dog training and orientation session! CARE Teams were able to spend time around both EMS trucks and Fire Engines with engines running, sirens and lights. The session allowed the program's new dogs to be exposed to conditions, smells, and sounds of emergency equipment and personnel they might encounter on deployments to catastrophes. Meet Bandit and his handlers, Tom and Brianne. During football season we enjoy going to outdoor restaurants to watch his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers, we’ve even taken a road trip to Wisconsin to visit Lambeau field in Green Bay. Of course he wore his jersey and had a great time interacting with Packer fans!

He also enjoys the outdoor life, especially climbing trees and showing off to everyone.

For the past three years he has participated in Boerne’s Barktoberfest where he has finished first in the doggy Dash all three years.

He recently got a cowboy hat and hopes to participate for kids and adults as a rodeo dog/horse.

Scout will be celebrating her 8th year birthday May 14th. She’s been a therapy dog for 6 years. She’s very much in demand! She visits many different locations including Colonies North Elementary where she listens carefully to children who love to read to her. Other locations are hospitals, and the Bexar County Courthouse. She loves doing special events and this year she was honored to be King AnBarkio at the Alamo Heights Fiesta Pooch Parade!

Meet Bacon Rose and her handler Christine. Bacon was King Anbarkio in Waiting at the Pooch Parade last weekend and she worked very hard! Bacon is a very busy puppy, she does therapy visits, media spots and special events. She walked the whole parade and was given some very well deserved TLC! Thanks Christine and Bacon for all your hard work! I can't wait to see Bacon on the main float next year!

Nikki and her handler Sandy were surprised at her facility today when we went to visit and she was presented with this basket of toys, treats and miscellaneous things. There is also a six page 8 1/2 x 11 size card signed by many of the clients. These were to celebrate National Therapy Animal Day and were taken after we got home. We visit once a week and she was told it was also because she comes to see them every week and they just love her!

I hope all of our therapy animals, handlers and potential therapy animals had the most awesome day!!

Our Story

Therapy Animals of San Antonio is an all volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and an affiliate member of the International Association of Human-Animal Interactions Organizations (IAHAIO), and a GuideStar Exchange Gold Participant. We are led by a Board of Directors and publish an Annual Report. Our mission since 1989 has been bringing people and animals together for healing. We do this with our therapy teams' visits to facilities, educational presentations, and StoryTails literacy program in the greater San Antonio area. We provide training and support for therapy teams, who may choose to become registered with Therapy Animals of San Antonio or Pet Partners, Inc. (formerly Delta Society). Our primary fundraiser for the year is the Fiesta® Pooch Parade, an official Fiesta® San Antonio event. All proceeds from the parade support our local programs. Members also enjoy getting together at special events throughout the year. We invite you tojoin our organization (with or without an animal), become a therapy team, and/or support us with a donation or as a sponsor of the Fiesta® Pooch Parade.
