#behaviormodification We don’t often post about our behavior modification cases because honestly we only take about one at a time because it’s not one but three trainers who take on the case not because it takes 3 people but rather because we want the dog (in this case Chief) to see what it’s like to not trust just one individual but multiple! It’s very rare that I’ve seen true aggression cases as most of them that come are truly fear based aggression vs true aggression. They take time and patience and can be draining emotionally due to the fact that life would be easier if we could just explain that we are here to help! Honestly though the reward is so great especially when you see them truly begin to trust you in moments and situations that would not have been possible before. Chief went from absolutely being terrified of jumping into the car to offering the behavior on his own and we could not be happier! Go Chief!!!

#frenchringsport #education Something I find valuable is education! I try and have trainers (including myself) attend a seminar at least once a year whether it’s focused on sport training or other professions in the end you are never done learning! Believe it or not a lot of your obedience stems from a knowledge of sports training since it involves engagement and understanding and TRUST! Just recently we were able to attend one that had guests Bethany and Jean Luc Preud’homme and it was so insightful getting to see techniques as well as discuss methodology from not only sport trainers but pet trainers! If your dog trainer claims to know everything RUN because believe me I will never be able to claim to know everything and the day I do means I need to retire!

My response is always test it with distractions! Some people think time is what proofs behaviors (example…10 minute downstays) and while that is great and a fantastic thing there is also another component to proofing behaviors and that is distractions! Whether it’s a loud plane or children running or even you throwing their favorite toy the best way to test how solid a behavior is throw in crazy distractions! The crazier the better!

#behaviormodification I couldn’t be more proud of this guy! This is Chief! Chief is Roxy’s housemate and he has made such progress that I can’t help but talk about it! He is a dog that did not know how to handle or cope with stress whether it was nail trimming or getting into a new car or going to a different part of the property…new environments scared him and he showed signs of if you push me I will bite because I am scared! So what did we do? We built trust and it took two weeks of just showing him we weren’t there to hurt him and then we asked him to load in the car…the very same one that he was terrified of and he did it with no hesitation and that truly let us know he trusted us…now we continue working!

#boardandtrainprogram Miss Roxy on her first park adventure! With Roxy we have focused on building trust and it has paid off! Day 1 she did not want to come out of her crate and was absolutely terrified of everything! At home she was comfortable and once her location changed we got to see how she truly was when she was somewhere new! It took a lot of patience and being understanding and while it did take us much longer to get to this point it was done at Roxy’s pace and now that we not only have the understanding of tools but also trust we can guide her to do more challenging things!
