Plenty of arena obstacles at Brave Horse Center.
I've been going through videos of early training of Whiskey and came across this one that I want to share. Look at how he looks at and processes how to step on this pedestal. I find that fascinating.
We are excited to share a brand new program that we are rolling out this year.
We haven’t come up with the perfect name yet.
But, In a nut shell, it’s a weanling program.
Bring your weanling to us for training.
We will include a weaning aspect.
Need a way to safely wean your foal? Bring your mare and baby to us. We’ll put the baby in a safe place with a new buddy near by, and you leave with the mare. If you prefer to keep the pair together a couple days at the new place before removing the mare, we can do that as well.
Training of the weanling will include:
haltering and leading if they do not already do so;
Approaching and “catching” if they are still shy about being touched.
moving body parts as in hips and shoulders move away from light pressure;
Becoming accustomed to ropes all over their body.
Leading by the feet. This really helps them not to panic if they ever get their feet hung in wires etc.
Bathing
trailer loading;
fly spray,
the sound of clippers (we will not clip, but can have them ready for you to clip);
light, minimal pressure, desensitizing;
easy obstacles;
Circling as if lunging-only at a walk.
Please lets us know it there is something you’d like trained that we missed.
Each weanling will be handled individually based on that baby’s temperament and needs.
We recommend that the weanling stay with us a month; especially if actually weaning is part of the process. In many cases, two weeks may be enough time.
But we are open to customizing your weaning’s time with us based on your needs and budget. Time will also take into account the needs of the weaning. We do not want to rush the learning process for these young minds.
We will take videos almost every day to send to you of the baby’s progress. And you are always welcome to come by and see how things are going.
Do you have a yearling that needs most of the above, our program will include yearlings
Your baby could be doing this too.
We had a perfect day. Weather was beautiful.
Three warnings joined us today. They all did great too.
Only got videos of two so far.
Such cuties.
If you’re not here you’re missing out on all the fun.
My heart is full as I share this with you. I know it’s a small thing, really. But this is something that I’ve dreamed of adding to Brave Horse for years.
We now have lights on our obstacle course. We can play at night.
Arena obstacles will be up through this weekend if anyone wants to come practice. After Monday they come out. The outdoor obstacles will be open for a couple weeks.
$50 for all day.
I want to thank everyone who came out and shared part of their weekend with us.
Sharing this course with others; watching the transformation of the horses as they build confidence; and watching the joy in the handlers faces is my greatest pleasures.
And I love this time of the day when the soft setting sun highlights the obstacles and the arena. I love just sitting here
I have a thought. I know there are many of us who ride through the week. Is there anyone who would like to set up a day this next week to come out and play on the obstacles wile it’s all still set up?
Update: We will have lots of obstacle in our covered arena for week. The arena has lights. So if anyone couldn’t come until evening, that gives you another option.
