San Antonio Zoo has once again earned national recognition, securing a coveted spot among the Top 10 Best Zoos in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler. This is the fourth time in the last three years San Antonio Zoo has earned a Top 10 in the U.S., as mentioned by four different organizations.

This honor comes as San Antonio Zoo celebrates 111 years of conservation impact and visitor engagement in 2025. The recognition by Condé Nast Traveler follows a string of major accomplishments, including being named Best Zoo in Texas five times in the last six years by multiple organizations.

San Antonio Zoo’s recent projects, including a new state-of-the-art entrance and the opening of the Naylor Savanna, continue to enhance the visitor experience. Looking ahead, the highly anticipated Congo Falls gorilla habitat and The Ralston event center, set to open in 2025, will further establish the zoo as a leader in modern zoological innovation. With over 6 million followers across digital platforms, San Antonio Zoo has gained worldwide attention through viral campaigns like Cry Me a Cockroach and Timothy for President.

At the heart of everything San Antonio Zoo does are its pillars of conservation and education. The zoo is often recognized for its dedication and world-class focus on nature-based education and the conservation of a wide variety of species and places across the planet.

San Antonio Zoo remains committed to advancing wildlife conservation efforts, enhancing guest experiences, and engaging audiences of all ages through interactive and educational initiatives. As the zoo continues to innovate, its mission remains the same: to create a world where wildlife thrives.

Four years ago a winter storm hit Texas, and San Antonio Zoo faced adversity with the freezing temps, ice and snow as well as the loss of power, water and well water on the grounds. Without hesitation the Zoo Crew stepped up and saved animals from the cold from both San Antonio Zoo and Primarily Primates in Boerne. Thank you everyone for your support to help us through, and of course thank you to our amazing Zoo Crew!

Yesterday, Texas Parks & Wildlife confirmed that avian influenza (HPAI) had been found in black vultures at Landa Park in New Braunfels. With cases detected across Texas, San Antonio Zoo remains proactive in protecting the birds in our care. We are following protocols recommended by USDA and APHIS, and continue working closely with the State Veterinarian, Texas Parks & Wildlife, and other zoological facilities to ensure best practices.

The public can help prevent the spread of HPAI by avoiding unnecessary contact with wild birds, removing outdoor bird feeders and bird baths, and refraining from feeding waterfowl in parks.
