This is something my good friend Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez posted last night. It is a positive and powerful message and I hope all of those who are angry, disappointed, shocked and saddened by these results will hear the message and share! God is good and Good will prevail in the end. And trust me folks, this one election is nowhere close to the end💜
I've been asked how I am feeling no less than 10 times this evening.
I keep going back to hearing my mother often say, "We pray for best and prepare for the worst."
We pause.
We try to be patient.
We regroup.
We try again. And again. And again.
The key is not to feel defeated but rather find the motivation to keep improving on our respective lots.
What more can we do?
We keep voting, consistently.
We don't give selfish, self-serving, poor examples of public servants, greedy, lying candidates a pass and we do not re-elect those who have abused their positions at any level.
We hold those who seek our votes accountable.
We take agency over our own personal destinies.
US Congressman Charlie Gonzalez (retired), used to say, "All politics are local." He challenged us to put value in how our own local quality of life, our personal lives, can be improved through municipal services: infrastructure, water quality, air quality, utilities access, fire and police response, quality education for our kids . . .
So, after we get off this campaign/elections roller coaster and get our emotions regulated, once we can think without disappointment, anger and anxiety, we focus on making sure San Antonio and Bexar County are the best places to live in Texas. We focus on making our community a safe one, a loving one, a peaceful one, an affordable community, a community that welcomes all and a community that thrives because of it's diversity and inclusiveness.
We pause.
We try to be patient.
We regroup.
We try again. And again. And again. We do not give up.
For tonight . . . we wait, pray for the best and prepare for the worst.
