What may be good for a human is not always safe for a pet (and vice versa)! Many common human medications can be extremely dangerous for animals, even in small amounts. Always keep medications out of reach of pets to prevent accidental poisoning.

What to do if your pet is poisoned:
⏳ Don’t wait—time is critical! Call your veterinarian immediately or contact:

📞 Pet Poison Helpline: 1-855-764-7661 (Consultation fee may apply)

Be ready to provide your pet’s breed, age, weight, and any symptoms. If possible, have the medication bottle, packaging, or plant sample on hand to help determine the best treatment. Acting fast can save your pet’s life!

At the Lange Foundation San Bernardino Intervention Program, we work closely with the City of San Bernardino Animal Shelter to provide resources that help keep pets with their families and out of shelters.

When a pet owner is facing hardship and considering surrendering their pet, we step in to offer support and solutions—whether it’s low-cost vet care, pet food assistance, financial aid resources, or behavioral help.

We also assist with getting owned pets out of the shelter, networking lost or found pets, and connecting pet owners with valuable rescue resources.

Our goal? To serve as a lifeline for pets and their families in need.

En el Programa de Intervención de la Fundación Lange en San Bernardino, trabajamos junto con el Refugio de Animales de la Ciudad de San Bernardino para brindar recursos que ayuden a las mascotas a quedarse con sus familias y fuera del refugio.

Cuando un dueño de mascota enfrenta dificultades y está considerando entregarla, intervenimos para ofrecer apoyo y soluciones—ya sea cuidado veterinario de bajo costo, asistencia con comida para mascotas, ayuda financiera o apoyo con problemas de comportamiento.

También ayudamos a recuperar mascotas que tienen dueños en el refugio, a encontrar hogares para mascotas perdidas o encontradas, y a conectar a los dueños con recursos de rescate.

Why spay and neuter?

- Due to significant increases in pet overpopulation, many cities and counties are now requiring pets to be spayed or neutered. Otherwise owners may face hefty fees when licensing their dogs
- Neutering dogs and cats helps reduce gross behavioral issues such as marking, and troublesome ones such as roaming and aggression
- Spaying dogs and cats directly contributes to decreasing pet overpopulation
- Spaying your pet eliminates the risk of life threatening medical emergencies such as pyometra, which is an infected uterus that if left untreated can be fatal.
- Spaying and neutering your pets helps reduce risks of certain types of cancer such as mammary/breast cancers and testicular cancers

💞Getting Pets Home & Keeping Families Together💞

One of the most important parts of our Intervention Program at the City of San Bernardino Animal Shelter is not just keeping pets in homes—but also getting them home! What better time to share than National Love Your Pets Day!!

Take Puppers, for example. He found himself lost, confused, and in an unfamiliar neighborhood, eventually ending up at the shelter. Thankfully, through our program, we were able to provide his owner with the resources needed to reunite their family and keep them together where they belong.

Every day, we work to prevent unnecessary surrender by offering support, education, and solutions for pet owners facing hardships. Because at the heart of it all, pets aren’t just animals—they’re family.

🐾 Calling All Animal Lovers—We Need Fosters! 🚨

Lange Foundation’s San Bernardino Intervention Program is expanding our foster network, and we need YOU to help save lives! Whether you have a day, a week, or a little extra love to give, there’s a foster role for you:

🐾 🏩 Layovers – A 24-48 hour safe space for pets before they move to rescue.
🐾 🏡 Pit Stop Crew – Provide 1-2 weeks of TLC while pets wait for transport or an open kennel.
🐾 🍼 Snuggle Squad – Foster 1-2 months for medical cases, underage kittens/puppies, or bottle babies (must be able to transport to vet visits).
🐾 🤰 Mama Brigade – Give pregnant or nursing moms a safe home until their babies are rescue-ready (typically 2-3 months).

🚨 An Eventful Day of Saving Lives! 🚨

Today at Lange Foundations San Bernardino Intervention Program, we hit the ground running! We started the morning by distributing vouchers to help pets in need, then immediately jumped into action, transporting two urgent cases for veterinary care. Just when we thought we could catch our breath, our shelter partner reached out about a dog needing emergent care—so back on the road we went!

Please join us in sending healing wishes to these beautiful animals as they begin their journey to recovery. 💕 And stay tuned for them to be made available for adoption!

🐱 Smurfette- 10 wk old kitten with a fractured pelvis (on bedrest and pain meds while it heals)
🐶 Canicas- 6 yr old poodle mix with severe dental disease (had surgery today)
🐶 Blanca- 6-7yr old frenchie with pyometra (currently at ER receiving care & eventually surgery)
