🐶💦 Why Are My Pup’s Eyes So Dry? 💦🐶

Does your dog constantly have goopy eyes with especially stringy discharge? Or seem to blink a lot? They might have keratoconjunctivitis sicca—also known as dry eye! This condition happens when their eyes don’t produce enough tears, leading to irritation, redness, and discomfort.

👀 In the picture, you’ll see one of our patients getting a Schirmer Tear Test, a quick and painless way to measure tear production. If your pup’s eyes aren’t making enough moisture, we can help with treatments to keep them comfortable and happy!

🐾 Severe Otitis Externa: What Pet Parents Need to Know 🐾

Ear infections, or otitis externa, can be extremely uncomfortable for pets, especially when they become severe. If your pet is shaking their head, scratching at their ears, or you notice redness, swelling, or a bad odor, it could be a sign of a serious infection that needs veterinary attention.

👂 Common Causes:
🔹 Allergies (food or environmental)
🔹 Bacterial or yeast infections
🔹 Ear mites (more common in cats)
🔹 Foreign objects (grass awns, debris)
🔹 Excess moisture (especially in floppy-eared breeds)

Untreated ear infections can lead to chronic pain, hearing loss, and even ruptured eardrums. Severe cases may require advanced treatments, deep ear cleaning under sedation, or long-term management for underlying conditions.

We surgically removed this from a dog’s urinary bladder. Any guesses to what it is? No, seriously…. What the heck is this? 😂

EDIT: Our best guess is a foxtail with stones attached. Nuts!

Did we mention we're REALLY good at ultrasounds? Dr. Snyder has done a TON of extra training in ultrasound and it is her FAVORITE diagnostic test. No, cancers don't show up on bloodwork, and sometimes it takes and x-ray or an ultrasound to get the diagnosis, even with "normal" labwork.

It's amazing what you can find, if only you look! We're happy to do them in the room with clients, as it helps keep the pets calm and also, it's just super interesting to watch! Let us know if your pet needs an ultrasound.
