Does anybody have any experience or know somebody or a rescue that can help Petey?
Petey A1446725 Needs a Special Home!
Poor little Petey came into OC Animal Care with a stomach full of garbage and was very lethargic. We had no medical history on him. He was displaying many odd behaviors and we were hoping it was just because he could not get proper nutrition. He had emergency exploratory surgery and a bunch of garbage was removed from his stomach and intestines. After surgery, he felt much better, but was still acting a little off. We had suspected a liver issue, so we sent off a biopsy from his liver that had been taken during the exploratory surgery. While waiting for the results he was showing more signs related to liver issues, so we took him back to the vet who did the surgery and they did an ultrasound. Both tests confirm that Petey has multiple liver shunts (Microvascular Dysplasia). His prognosis is likely going to be poor, but with aggressive management, he may have a decent life for quite a while. He will need to be medicated, monitored and fed a special diet. Unfortunately, this makes it very unlikely that we will be able to find placement for him and we are not a good environment for him to be in. He needs a less stressful place to be where he can be strictly managed to be sure he is getting the right amount of medication. Petey will need a very experienced home that has the means to care for him. Someone who has had a dog with this condition before would be ideal. If you can help Petey or know of a rescue that can.
