#FurballsFUReverRescue alumni Otis (formally known as Noodle), is doing amazing in his new home!
Otis joined our #TrainToHome foster program as a crazy and energetic puppy struggling with jumping, nibbling, and pulling on leash. He stayed with us for about three months learning obedience, house manners, leash walking using a Gentle Leader, and how to play safely with other friendly dogs.
Now, Otis is an amazing companion for his mom and loves to get attention from the whole family though strangers quickly become his family too 😂
We're so happy to see Otis thriving, and will continue to help his mom upkeep his training with refresher appointments as needed. Drop some love for this goof in the comments ⬇️🐾

When your dog is exposed to a new challenge, do they follow your guidance or do they do their own thing?
Breaker, our head trainer's #protectiondog, is frequently asked to do "weird" things for confidence, trust, and relationship building. This playground was fully new to him, and the "walk" command was new as well.
You can hear Breaker's frustration in his barking and whining, but the success happens anyway! With a big reward at the end of the complicated request, he will be much more likely to finish similar tasks faster in the future.

LUCKY IS A WATER DOG! 🐬
We took advantage of the last days of summer weather to take Lucky and the other boarding pups to the beach!
Little did we know, Lucky loves running in the sand and spent over 20 minutes swimming and enjoying the breeze.
Despite being surrounded by people and other dogs, Lucky had an amazing time and was able to rely on his trust in our head trainer, Jaye, to alleviate any insecurities he felt during the outing. All the work towards his rehabilitation is really paying off!

Cooper is a 2-year old #GreatDane mix with a heart of gold. He is dorky, playful, funny, and always ready to join you on whatever adventure you have to offer!
After being bounced around for almost a year, he is more than deserving of the stability and permanence that a forever family would provide.
Cooper needs an active home, and would do well with someone who is retired or works limited hours. He is crate trained, potty trained, and knows all of his obedience commands.

WHAT MAKES A SERVICE DOG? 🤔
We see it time and time again - untrained dogs in "service dog" vests wandering grocery stores, barking at other dogs, and pulling every which way...
But what is it that differentiates a real service dog from a fake?

A service dog is a dog specially trained to perform a task or behavior that helps mitigate a symptom of their handler's disability(ies). This does not include emotional support dogs or therapy dogs, who are trained to comfort in other ways.
Some commonly seen types of service dogs are guide dogs for the vision impaired, mobility dogs for people in wheelchairs, medical alert dogs for Type One Diabetes, and psychiatric service dogs for veterans with PTSD.
The Americans With Disabilities Act, or ADA, has federal regulations and laws that govern service dogs including:
1) the dog must be task trained for the handler's disability
2) the dog must be under voice, signal, or other control at all times
3) the dog may not disrupt normal business practice (ie. excessive barking, sniffing, or urinating)
Vests, paperwork, registration cards, and other forms of "proof" that a dog is a service dog do not provide any legal protection, and any business requiring these would be breaking federal law. There are no "certifications" or any other requirements for a service dog other than what is listed in the ADA!
