This is a video of a heartworm positive blood sample we collected from a patient. Heartworms are transmitted to our pets via a bite from an infected mosquito. Heartworms are preventable with a monthly chewable medication and is available for both dogs and cats. Even if your cat is an indoor cat it is still important they remain on regular preventatives, as mosquitos can get inside your house. In addition to monthly preventatives, it is also recommended that your pet get an annual Heartworm test to ensure they are still negative.
