With heat waves sweeping across the country, blue-green algae is appearing in new areas and posing an increased risk to pets.

Found in lakes, ponds or any source of standing water, it’s extremely toxic and consuming it can be fatal. The best way to prevent accidental poisoning is to keep a close eye on pets when they’re around water.

If you think your pet has been exposed, take them to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital and contact the ASPCA Poison Control at 888-426-4435.

Tornadoes form during intense thunderstorms and can reach wind speeds of 200+ mph. Although tornadoes can occur anywhere, they are prevalent in the Southeast and Midwest. Stay informed by downloading the FEMA app and signing up for weather reports and evacuation notices.

Keep a list handy of pet-friendly shelters and contact information for your local animal control office and ASPCA Poison Control (888-426-4435) in case of evacuation.

Pocho came in last week and he was perfect! He was actually a rescue from Tijuana. The owners were there and he kept showing up at their place. They set a rule to not set out any food so he doesn't keep returning, and next thing you know he was in their car coming home! They took him to a local vet there to ensure he had all his vaccines to be able to cross the border. Isn't that so sweet? They are both lucky to have found each other 💗 He has such a calm demeanor and temperament.

The cutest girl Hazel had a visit with us! She was sooo adorable and we loved having her. She is having surgery for distichia, which is a condition where the eyelashes grow out of place and rub on the eye. She will feel much better soon. 💝

This is Bader, an almost 4 year old Boston Terrier with cataracts in both eyes. He is to undergo surgery for a phacoemulsification (cataract surgery) in July. Let's all wish him good luck! He's a really sweet boy. 💘

Another win for the cat distribution system! 🐱 Our staff helped save this kitten that was stuck in a tire axle at the Tesla maintenance shop next to our hospital. The owners of the car that heard the meowing fell in love with her immediately and have decided to keep the little one, and her name is "Tesla Cookie". Let's all wish her the best with her new home! She was super sweet! 💗

This is one of our patients, Ella, when she was just over a year old. She is now about 7 1/2 but we just wanted to show off how adorable she is! She had a diamond burr/superficial needle keratectomy for an ulcer she had and as of yesterday, it is now confirmed to be healed. She is doing great and we love having her as one of our patients! 💖

Here's some live action photos of what an exam looks like with Dr. Strubbe! The photos may all look similar, but he is actually using different light settings directed at the eye with different lighting in the room as well (the last photo in this slide is actually in the dark). He does a very thorough exam looking at the exterior and interior of the eye (as far back as the optic nerve!) and also checks for different reflexes. So, in case you were curious, this is what each and every exam consists of. 😊
