Neighbors helping neighbors in need….We were glad we were able to provide help and temporary accommodations for evacuated horses

It’s colt starting time here at RLA. “Lilo” our Gunnatrashya filly’s second time under saddle with Israel Esparza

Rewarding effort….Today we had good “Arena Talk” regarding knowing when to quit a training session. This young stallion recently came into our program and was behind with his lead changes. After several days of working on body control (counter canter,counterbend and moving off leg,etc) Israel Esparza came out and after a brief warm up asked for several changes on a straight line. Each lead change was smooth and simultaneous. This lead to the discussion about recognizing and rewarding effort. Earlier this year we attended an excellent “Along For The Ride” Clinic with Andrea Fappani, Nick Dowers and Shawn Flarida in Las Vegas and Nick talked about the importance of rewarding the effort. Here was the end of that discussion…. Israel “Zorro” could have continued his Training Session and worked on spins, stops, etc. But instead he decided to reward this young horses effort.

Allow me to introduce “Bruce” our newest self-proclaimed RLA Resident. He appeared a few weeks ago and acts like he’s lived here all his life. Today he “helped” Katie give her lessons. He has quite a fan club already.....
