Hello everyone. I'm afraid I had some communication issues but all is well now. I've missed two weekends of fundraising and we are really behind with a pile of bills, dog food to buy, and more. Let's get started and help us catch up. Right now a match up for 1000: we need to raise 900 more. And boy do we need it.
Some updates about what you missed last week:
●Rain! Well I'm glad it has arrived but it also turned parts of the sanctuary into a sticky bog. Fixing shelters and keeping animals dry as well as trying to get that mud off of us has been a major job recently. The storms are epic and boy are we glad to have solar instead of relying on the grid; but because it's overcast we have less energy stored. Everyone has done well and stayed dry in our concrete dog shelters: they were a wise idea.
●Surgeries! Bambi, one of our half paralyzed dogs, went in for surgery and had her dead eye removed; she has been depressed to not be around Benny, her half paralyzed best friend; but the surgery went well and they should be reunited in a week. And Peanut had dental surgery Saturday and comes back soon. So we have Peanut's bill to pay, too.
●We finished the rainwater catchment system off the main building but we don't have the cisterns to collect it in so I'll be asking folks to sponsor cisterns. The collected rainwater will go thru a sophisticated filtration system and is for our dogs, outdoor toilet, sink. We do not have a well out here ( out of our budget) and rainwater catchment is essential for our longevity. I'll price those this week and then get started working on it.
● Speaking of rain, our tiny team of helpers has been out here in the sun and rain for 15 months with no shelter. Last week we made a break area and boy are the guys glad to be dry and cool in this high desert environment. Every bit of shade we have otherwise has dogs and donkeys in it! We can turn this into a dog shelter when we no longer need it.
●Right now we are making an entrance to the main building and it has a ramp to make it easier to bring things inside-- as well as sick or disabled animals.
●Roads and access difficult last few days and I see us needing to buy more loads of gravel for two areas.
● The donkey barn is a ways off but we did finish their temporary shelter and they love it. Every day it rains at 5 or 6 pm, sometimes for 2 hours..and sometimes for 10 hours. Just in time!
Slow and steady makes the race. Little by little!
Let's do it. 900 to go. Remember, this is owned by an American Foundation who will run it as a animal sanctuary for perpetuity. Imagine how many animals will find peace and joy behind its gates.
