Seven Lab mix puppies (4 male, 3 female) Foster Needed/Adoptable

Background. These 7 puppies were found nursing from their mama dog in a "red-tagged" abandoned house in Lake County. Approx. DOB 11/8/2024. Taken to the Lake County shelter for care and safety, we brought them and mama into our program. Mama dog "Kashi" (our name for her) will soon be up for adoption. The shelter recorded that Kashi and her puppies are Pit Bull Terriers. We feel the puppies are more Labby than Pitty -- you be the judge. We are delighted to have the opportunity to help them find forever homes.

For more details/videos: https://www.labrescue.org/labs/7Puppies2024-12.html

What the puppies' Foster says:

Whenever someone enters the room the puppies all come running with their tails wagging. In the short time since they left the shelter, they are getting the hang of using the p*e pad, keeping their crate clean!

Yellow male "Charlie Brown" (yellow collar)

Yellow male "Schroeder" (red collar)

Yellow male "Linus" (teal collar)

Chocolate male "Woodstock" (green collar)

Chocolate female "Peppermint Patty" (purple collar)

Chocolate female "Marcie" (lavender collar)

Chocolate female "Lucy" (orange collar)

What Rescue Rep says. The puppies have not completed their cycle of puppy vax and need to be quarantined in their adopter's home/backyard until fully vax (late February). Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby in the home: very demanding for care and attention, can't be left alone much, cries a lot. Eat, poop/p*e, play, sleep.... The adopters will need to be home most (if not all the time), have a home with a backyard, and be fully aware of what puppy care is all about. Not for those who are not ready to fully commit. Need to have a plan for puppy training/socialization with other puppies. Prior young dog experience is not required but preferable. No other dogs in the home under 2 years old. Cats okay. The employment of a crate and exercise pen (x-pen) will be important too.

Medical. All 7 puppies appear to be in fine health. Lucy does have an umbilical hernia that will need surgery to repair it; Lab Rescue will pay for that surgery. They have received their first distemper vax -- two more to go... in late January and late February. Spaying/neutering, chipping, Rabies vax are down the road and covered by Lab Rescue.

Located in: Palo Alto.

If you are interested in applying to adopt one of these puppies, please email Rescue Rep Kris at [email protected].

Frank: 1 year-old neutered male chocolate Lab mix, 60 lbs

Background:
This beautiful, sweet dog was found as a stray. He’s a friendly, active boy. Affectionate/attentive, responds well to training. Frank's favorite thing on earth is a tennis ball. His energy was not a good fit for the shelter environment. The shelter reached out to GGLRR to get Frank into a foster home, and he is flourishing.

For videos/full details - See https://www.labrescue.org/labs/Frank2024-12.html

Frank’s foster says:
Frank is still a puppy, full of energy. He would be the perfect dog for agility training. He’s extremely agile, athletic, a quick learner, wants to please. Gets along great with other dogs. Has been going on pack walks several times a week. Catching on quickly to basic obedience. Is a bit mouthy, nippy, when he gets excited, like any puppy.

He is housebroken and sleeps through the night in a bed on a tiedown. He goes into his crate to eat and sleep as long as we are around. We are working on extending the time we can leave the house while he is crated.

Food and ball motivated. Likes to chew, can occupy himself in the backyard with his toys. Would be a great dog for an active person/family, who will keep up with exercise/training.

Frank's Rescue Rep says:
This sweet boy will sneak into your heart when you meet him. Frank is a beautiful dog with a good disposition that would do well with an active family/children over 8 years old. He’d make a great hiking companion. He should also do fine with another dog and has been enjoying going on pack walks several times a week. We’d love to see Frank go to a home where someone is around most of the day,

Medical Information:
Neutered, chipped, up to date on vax, heartworm neg, on preventatives.

Located in: El Sobrante

If you are interested in Frank, please contact Rescue Rep Katy at [email protected]

In your email, please tell me about yourself and why you would be a good fit for Frank.

Foster needed for 14-month-old neutered male black Lab mix "Henry Black"

Background. This guy was found as a stray in Marin County, and he has been at Marin Humane (MH) for a few weeks. MH asked us to take him into our program -- 'cause we are great with big, energetic, spirited, strong, young Labs that need lots of exercise and guidance. Okay! Bring it on...

Henry loves the stuffed toy -- https://youtu.be/_pOa571IGX8

Henry loves his tennis ball -- https://youtu.be/2R5mL1L9L94

Leash walk with Henry -- https://youtu.be/ja_0a3thGWg

Henry meeting a smaller (obnoxious) dog -- https://youtube.com/shorts/wdm2NNEktnY

Henry fence-greeting another dog -- https://youtu.be/YLsxRjChuiw

Henry romping with another energetic dog -- https://youtube.com/shorts/s-mnk5Mog1A

More of Henry romping with a big dog -- https://youtube.com/shorts/U52wUYGIA1c

What our evaluator says. Watch all of the videos! Henry passed my evaluation. No food guarding. Soft mouth. Let me touch him all over -- although he was pretty quick to show me that he loves his belly touched most of all. Loves toys. Pretty good fetcher. Loves the ball. Not so interested in food or treats. Quite "frustrated" on leash when he sees another dog... but played (albeit kinda rough) when allowed. He is quick to focus on other nearby dogs. Requires slow and closely managed introductions to other dogs.

What Henry's Rescue Rep says. Looking for a foster or forever home that will provide Henry with the leadership, exercise, and dog socialization he needs. Yeah, he is big and strong. Perfect candidate for "Gentle Leader" or "Halti" type of head harness. Shelter believes he is house-trained. Will need someone who can handle leash "frustration"/leash "reactivity" when meeting other dogs. No idea about cats. May do fine in a home with an existing big dog that can handle crazy Henry Black. Best he NOT go to a home with children under 12 years of age due to his size, energy, and strength. My guess is that he is a Lab/shepherd mix.

Medical. Great health. Neutered. Heartworm neg. Current on vax. chipped.

Located at: Marin Humane in Novato.

If you can foster Henry Black, please contact Rescue Rep Dave at [email protected].

Ear Issues

https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/dog-ear-infections/

The entire article is available using the link above.

As many as 20 percent of dogs have some form of ear disease

Dogs are more prone to ear infections than humans because of the shape of their ear canals

Prevention is key — learn how to clean your dog’s ears safely

If your dog is showing any of the common signs of ear infections, it’s important to visit your veterinarian as soon as possible

Ear infections are common conditions in dogs, especially those with floppy ears such as Basset Hounds and Cocker Spaniels. An estimated 20 percent of dogs have some form of ear disease, which may affect one or both ears. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to reduce the length and severity of these episodes for your dog.

Some dogs show no symptoms of ear infection aside from a buildup of wax and discharge in the ear canal. But ear infections often cause significant discomfort and affected dogs may show signs such as:

Head shaking

Scratching at the affected ear

Dark discharge

Odor

Redness and swelling of the ear canal

Pain

Itchiness

Crusting or scabs in the ears

Factors that may predispose your dog to ear infections include:

Moisture, which can create a prime growing environment for bacteria and yeast

Allergies, which lead to ear disease in about 50 percent of dogs with allergic skin disease and 80 percent of dogs with food sensitivities

Endocrine disorders, such as thyroid disease

Autoimmune disorders

Wax buildup

Foreign bodies

Injury to the ear canal

Excessive cleaning

If your dog is showing any of the common signs of ear infections, it’s important to visit your veterinarian as soon as possible

ACCEPTING NO MORE CALLS
Koda: 4.5-year-old black Lab, 85 Pounds, Neutered

Background and What Koda's Mom Says:

Koda's mom made a tough decision to rehome him because she is moving, is unable to take Koda with her.

We found Koda by searching for lab breeders on the AKC website. In June 2020 we found a breeder, picked up Koda. He’s always been energetic, playful. Is an excellent companion, enjoys being close to those he loves.

Koda needs a family who will walk him/play fetch. Loves to swim. Has been a member of a dog swim gym. Can be calm/relaxed at home. Fine by himself when left for a few hours.

Koda does well with familiar dogs, can get nervous when meeting a new dog. There are times he can get fearful/react to dogs that are too close. I typically give lots of space when passing other dogs. Would be great with a family experienced with dog walking/familiar with dog behavior. Loves to be in nature, go for walks/explore. Taken basic obedience training/understands basic commands.

What Lab Rescue says:

Upon meeting Koda, he greeted my husband and me excitedly. He welcomed pets, allowed pets all over. Can be nervous, unsure around other dogs, has snapped when they’re too close for comfort. We introduced him to our male Lab. Upon first seeing our dog, Koda's hackles were up but after a while, did fine.

We want Koda in a home where he isn't left for long hours of the day. A stay-at-home parent, family who works from home, or who can take him to work would be ideal. A family who wants a dog to accompany them on outdoor adventures/vacations would be wonderful!

Needs daily exercise. Would thrive in a home with experienced owners who can provide training, exercise, a focus on socialization. Don't know about cats. Would make an amazing addition to an active family. Walked with a head collar (Halti) to keep him from pulling. Has lived with children/teens ranging in age from 6-16 years. Sleeps on a dog cot/bed.

Medical Information:

Neutered, chipped, current on vax. Will be heartworm tested.

Located in: Foster City

If you are interested in Koda, email Rescue Rep Kris [email protected]. Tell me about yourself, why you would be a good fit.

ADOPTION PENDING
Hank 6-month-old male Lab/Belgian shepherd mix 50-lbs Not neutered

Background. Hank (formerly known as Cowboy) was part of an accidental litter between a female yellow Lab... and a neighbor's male Belgian Shepherd (the long-haired black Groenendael variety) who jumped the fence. Hank was born on 28 June 2024. Hank was given to a friend who is now moving into a new smaller home where dogs are not allowed. Note: Lab Rescue took in five of Hank's siblings when they were young puppies and found all of them new homes. Time for Hank to follow suit.

Hank the big goober -- https://youtube.com/shorts/h4k_Wtq7rto

Hank the chill dog -- https://youtube.com/shorts/bg5u6fa7AEo

What Hank's current caretaker says. Hank is a friendly and happy dog. He stays outside during the day and comes in at night. He knows some basic commands such as "sit", "stay", "down" and "come". He loves fetching the ball and we play ball with him all the time. Hank is great with other dogs, but he doesn't get out to play with other dogs that often. He likes to ride in the car. Hank is fine with cats... kinda playful. He is a beautiful dog.

What Hank's Rescue Rep says. We hope to place Hank in a forever home where he won't be left alone (in the backyard) for extended hours. Lots of walks and exercise will be required for Hank. The presence of another dog (or cat) would be fine. Fine dog for a family with older children. Hank is still a very young dog so he is prone to chew on things. A great candidate for dog obedience class with his adopter.

Medical. Hank is in fine health. Current on Rabies and distemper vaccinations. Taking heartworm preventive. Not yet neutered or microchipped.

Hank is currently located in: Linden.

Princess 8-year-old female yellow Lab 99-lbs Not yet spayed

Background. Her royal highness has been confined to the backyard of her palace for years with occasional forays beyond the grounds for leash walks. Was alone for the majority of the day. Spent her nights outside alone in a doghouse. Her surrendering owner felt she would do better in another home given his inability to walk her/spend time with her. We are delighted to have her in a foster home now.

Princess gets so excited playing with a ball -- https://youtu.be/Fl4SXZLxoQA

What Princess' foster says. Since arriving at our home, Princess has really come into her own. Well behaved; Haven’t seen her counter surf, doesn’t jump up on people/chew on furniture/objects that she collects to adorn her dog bed. Will get her ball, ask you to play with her; will grab her leash in her mouth to go for a walk. While we haven't tested it thoroughly, we did leave her home alone for a solid 2 hours and she did great! Sleeps soundly through the night. Is exercising daily, swims regularly, track to lose 20 lbs. We suspect she is already fluent in Spanish, and she has been quick to learn new commands in English. Princess walks OK on a leash, if there are no distractions, will require additional leash training. Will also benefit from focused attention on socialization with other dogs, especially smaller dogs. Loves to play, but comes in a bit too “hot” for their (and their owners’) comfort. Has a lovely disposition, smart, has proven herself to be a fiercely loyal/a playful companion. Will make a wonderful addition to a family.

What Princess' Rescue Rep says. One outstanding lady! The photos/videos speak to Princess' zest for life. Would be a fine dog for a family with children/another dog. Don’t know about cats. Her adopter must be committed to exercise/dietary regimen to return Princess to an appropriate weight. Needs a strong handler, requires ongoing work on leash.

Medical. In great health, more than a few pounds overweight. Heartworm neg. Current on vax. Chipped. Needs to lose 20 lbs. before she’s spayed.

Located in: Larkspur.

Happy Endings for Kodi (formerly Atticus)

Kodi came from the Sonoma County Shelter. He didn't have a chip and no one came to pick him up. The shelter called GGLRR.

Things have changed. Lots of smiles with his new forever family. Kodi is ready for a new adventure.

Foster needed for seven 4-week-old pups along with Lab mama dog

Background, The dogs were found in an abandoned home. The dogs are currently at the Lake County shelter. Mama is still nursing the puppies, but the shelter is introducing mush to the puppies. All appear to be healthy.

https://youtube.com/shorts/NuSPc0DX-AU
https://youtube.com/shorts/FOlBRtXbang

What their Rescue Rep says. The two above videos give the best presentation of mama dog and the puppies. We will wean the puppies in ~2 weeks and shift the mama dog to another foster at that time. Ideally, we'd like to find a quiet foster home with a backyard. Presence of another older calm dog should be fine.

If you can foster these puppies (and mama dog), please contact Rescue Rep Dave at [email protected]

Buddy - 2-year-old male black Lab - 60 lbs. Neutered

Background. Buddy was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Houston. After pleading with many rescues, a Bay Area dog rescue angel got lucky with a husky rescue that pulled him just in time. Because of generous donations, Buddy was transported in a truck with other dogs being dropped off across the country, before arriving in Berkeley.

Was adopted out to a family but began growling at children in the home, occasionally at strangers. His adopter feels it best that Buddy finds a new (childless) forever home.

Buddy hanging out with other dogs -- https://youtu.be/uYZUNkyhmOw

What Buddy's Good Samaritan says. I couldn’t let this wonderful dog be killed due to overcrowding at a shelter far away. My time with Buddy confirms he is an awesome dog. He is young, playful, sweet. Appears to be house-broken. Good recall. Good with other dogs/pulls on leash. Fine with cats. Loves to fetch/ride in the car. Let me touch him all over

What Buddy's current adopter says. Buddy is a smart, lovable boy. We take Buddy on daily walks and to the dog park. Likes to counter surf so we make sure to put things away. Active, need to go on daily walks. We’ve left him for 4 hours, occasionally gets into something he shouldn’t. Not crate trained. Sleeps through the night. Has been aggressive with smaller kids, can growl. Growled at strangers. Would do best in a household with few visitors, a companion to work with him. Does well off leash on hikes.

What Buddy's prior foster says. Buddy is an affectionate, obedient young Lab. Knows basic commands. Responds well to an owner with experience with dogs. Well socialized. Needs significant daily exercise. Will thrive with an active owner, home with a big yard. Buddy is a remarkable boy!

What Buddy's Rescue Rep says. Welcome to California, Buddy! Would do best with an adopter with big dog experience. Other dogs/cats should be fine. No children. Needs leash work, exercise/socialization with other dogs.

Medical:

Great health. Current on Rabies, lepto, distemper vax. Neutered. Heartworm neg. chipped.

Located in: Alamo.

The Clock is Ticking—Rescue Labs Need You!

Today is Giving Tuesday and there’s still time to make a lifesaving difference for Labs in need. Your support today provides critical care, safe shelter, and a chance at a loving forever home.

Don’t forget—every dollar you donate before midnight will be matched!

That means your generosity goes twice as far to help dogs like Molly! Molly’s central valley owner took her to a spay clinic to get fixed. The spay clinic soon realized that Molly was very pregnant – the puppies were close to being born. The owner was pretty clueless that Molly was so pregnant. Needless to say, the spay clinic refused to spay Molly and abort the puppies. Instead, they took custody of Molly from her owner and immediately contacted us for help. We scrambled and teamed with Dogs 4 Diabetics (D4D) in Concord who offered their whelping facility to care for Molly and allow her to give birth. A week later, on Halloween, Molly delivered nine puppies at the D4D facility.

Molly and her pups are counting on compassionate heroes like you to give them a second chance at life.

Thank you for believing in second chances. Together, we can make this Giving Tuesday unforgettable for Labs in need.
