URGENT – FOSTER NEEDED

4-year-old very pregnant female silver Lab "Zoey" urgently needs a foster

Background. A very pregnant 4-year-old female silver Lab named "Zoey" needs to find a foster home soonest where she can deliver and care for her puppies. She is being surrendered by her Visalia owner. Labrador Retriever Rescuer of Fresno (LRRF) plans to pick up Zoey on Tuesday, but they do not have a foster that can whelp her puppies and provide post-natal care... so they have asked us if we can help. Sweet, sweet Zoey reportedly gets along with other dogs.

What Zoey's Rescue Rep says. If you have experience whelping dogs, we need your help! We provide all supplies and cover all costs. We even have a whelping box you can use. We have no idea what breed the father is. If you do not have experience whelping dogs and caring for puppies, we will guide you through the process. It is a true labor of love.

If you are game for this awesome experience, please contact Rescue Rep Dave at [email protected].

Marcie - Chocolate/Tan Lab Mix Female Puppy, Approx birthdate November 8, 2024 - 15 lbs.

Background. This sweet soul has been through so much. She's a fighter. Born among 7 puppies. Found with their mama in an abandoned house. Taken to the Lake County shelter, we brought the pups/mama into our program.

Marcie was 1 of 2 puppies who had Parvo. Her condition was the most severe. She was hospitalized but now is a healthy pup, ready for a forever home. Mama dog and 4 of Marcie's siblings have been adopted. The shelter recorded that Mama, and her pups are Pit Bull terriers.

For full details/videos: https://labrescue.org/labs/Marcie2025-02.html

What Marcie's Foster says: Marcie is a sweet, gentle pup. Whenever someone comes to the house, she goes to the front door, wagging her tail/rear end. Loves to meet the children I tutor/will sit on a child’s lap while we work.

Marcie is calm for a puppy. Doesn’t bark/jump on people. She’s a cuddler. While very friendly, she doesn’t push herself on people/animals. Has a silly, playful side. Loves chasing/carrying around her toys. Walks nicely on a leash/enjoys going for walks. Needs a home where she will receive love/affection. Has the temperament to be a therapy dog.

What Marcie's Rescue Rep says: Marcie is sweet, playful. I had her overnight/she was a joy. She always came out of her crate with a wagging tail/wiggly body. Looking for a home where she can continue to thrive. If you're looking for a loyal companion, Marcie is your girl.

Adopting a young puppy is like having a newborn baby: very demanding, can't be left alone much. The adopters need to be home most (if not all the time), have a backyard, be aware of puppy care. Not for those not ready to fully commit. Need to have a plan for puppy training. Prior young dog experience isn’t required. No other dogs in the home under 2. Cats okay. Use of a crate/exercise pen (x-pen) will be important.

Medical. Recovered from Parvo, on puppy vax schedule. Received DHPP/Rabies. Spaying, chipping in future (coordinated by GGLRR).

Located in: Palo Alto

ADOPTION PENDING
Jax - 4-year-old male silver Lab - 65 lbs. - Neutered

Background. Found as a stray in Stanislaus County. He had been adopted from the shelter to someone back in 2023, but recent attempts to reach his adopters fell short. His owner never came in to reclaim him. Not to worry we will find him a fabulous forever home.

For full details/videos: https://labrescue.org/labs/Jax2025-02.html

What Jax foster says. Jax is a big sweet goofy boy. His Labby nature is clear - smart, food-motivated, lots of energy for fun. He is so handsome people stop him on the street to say hello on our walks. He’s fine with our dog -- they are amicable. He sleeps on a dog bed on the floor of an occupied bedroom. Sleeps all night, house trained, knows "sit" and "down", and comes when called by his name. He does have a bit of separation anxiety where he barks for a while when his person leaves the room, and then he settles down. He’s very tall, and because he is so food-motivated, quite able to counter surf. Fine on the leash - he goes for 3 neighborhood walks a day. He does like to chase squirrels. Jax has a scar on his head that is mostly covered by fur. His coat is grey-brown and his eyes are tawny. We believe Jax likes music, particularly classical and folk guitar.

What Jax's Rescue Rep says. Am completely shocked that someone would let Jax go. He is an awesome dog. Doing great in his foster home, hanging out with another Lab. He is an active dog and will need adopters who are prepared to give him the exercise that he needs. Not a couch potato. No idea how Jax is with cats.

Medical. Jax is in great health. Current on Rabies and distemper vaccinations, Neutered, Microchipped. Headed to our vet soon for a wellness exam and heartworm test.

Jax is located in: Oakland.

If you want to adopt Jax, contact Rescue Rep Dave at [email protected].

Happy Endings for the Morada Four!!

Poppy, Kal, Cash, and Bandit have been adopted!

These four pups (three boys and one girl) were dumped over a fence in the middle of the night (early on 28 Dec) ... and dropped into a homeowner's yard in Morada (near Stockton). The homeowner (Billy) found the puppies huddled together in the cold in the morning and took them in for safe keeping. My Stockton rescue pal Jill called me immediately... and the pups soon joined our program.

The Morada Four have found their forever homes with their new Peeps!!

Landon of Mill Valley adopted Poppy on 23 Jan 2025
Danny of San Ramon adopted Bandit on 31 Jan 2025
Nicky of Corte Madera adopted Kal on 02 Feb 2025
Rachel of Santa Rosa adopted Cash on 12 Feb 2025

From Moogie’s Pawrents:

It is with great sadness that Ed and I said goodbye to Moogie on October 10, 2024. When we got Moogie (originally "Liza") on June 7, 2009, age approx. 1.5, never did we expect her to become that "one special dog" that she turned out to be. We gave her Jan 1, 2008 as her BD which put her just short of her her 17th birthday. She was a registered therapy dog through Pet Partners from Oct 2012 until her retirement at age 16 in March 2024. She brought so much love and joy to residents of SNF, assisted living and was a member of the Stanford PAWS program from 2013 until last year. Thank you to GGLRR for giving us such a wonderful friend.

First picture is right after we got her, 2nd one was her official Stanford portrait, and the last one was Oct 2024.

ADOPT OR FOSTER - BEHR - 1 YEAR OLD, NEUTERED BLACK LAB MIX

Background: Behr’s owner has made the difficult decision to rehome him given her current situation. He is kept in his crate for several hours a day, does not have access to a fenced yard. He has regular walks but is not able to socialize much with dogs/people.

What his owner says: Behr is a beautiful black Lab mix with all Black lab characteristics. Loves to play fetch/play by himself with chew toys. Can be a goofball at times/always makes me laugh. Still a puppy with more energy than I can handle. He needs room to run in a backyard/someone to take him hiking. Needs to be more socialized with humans/dogs.

What his GGLRR Rescue Rep says: Behr is a friendly, playful young pup who loves attention and playing with toys. He currently lives with another small, older dog (puggle). Not sure about cats. He's about 50 lbs. and will need leash training and training on general commands beyond “sit.” He is food motivated but shows no signs of resource guarding food or toys. He is crate trained and house trained. When meeting other dogs Behr gets very excited and pulls to get close, but has not shown any aggression and just wants to play.

A home with a yard where Behr could burn off some of his energy would be ideal. He will need regular exercise and some help with leash training. He does like to jump up when meeting people so not a good match for families with toddlers, but he has been around children over 6 with no issues. Another older dog might be good to show him the ropes, although he'd likely be fine alone.

Medical: Behr is in good health, has been neutered and is up to date on all his vaccines and preventatives.

Behr is located in: Cloverdale

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Behr please contact Rescue Rep Kathy ([email protected]). In your email, tell me about yourself and why you would be a good fit.

FOSTER OR ADOPT
Skye and Starry: 5 1/2-year-old male chocolate labs are available for FOSTER or ADOPTION, 60-65 pounds, will be neutered at the end of February

Background: Skye and Starry are brothers purchased from a breeder and have been together since they were pups. Their family is heartbroken to have to part with them due to an unexpected move and they describe these two as loyal, loving companions. While they’ve always been together, their family believes they might be able to adjust to separate homes if needed.

For full details/videos: https://labrescue.org/labs/Skye2025-02.html

What Their GGLRR Rescue Rep says: What makes Skye and Starry so special:

Friendly & Affectionate – These boys love people and soak up all the pets and attention they can get!

Great with Kids & Cats – They currently live with a cat and have been wonderful around their owner’s grandchild since she was six.
Well-Mannered at Home – House trained and have no issues being left alone in the house.
Smart & Trainable – They already know commands like "sit," "down," and "come" but will need some work on their leash manners.

Dog Social with Proper Introductions – Skye is polite and curious around other dogs, while Starry is a little more vocal and may need a slow introduction.

Their ideal home: A loving family that won’t leave them alone for long stretches.
A yard where they can run, play, and burn off energy.
Regular exercise and continued training to refine their leash skills.
A home with children over six and possibly a friendly cat would be ok

Skye and Starry are still young, full of energy, and love to play—especially with a soccer ball! But after some fun, they settle down easily on their beds for a cozy nap. Whether adopted together or separately, they will make wonderful companions for the right family.

Medical: Skye and Starry both appear to be in good health. Both dogs are still intact and will be neutered and brought up to date on all their vaccines and preventatives in the next 2 weeks.

Located in: Rodeo

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Skye and Starry, contact Rescue Rep Kathy ([email protected]). Tell me about yourself/why you would be a good fit

ADOPTION PENDING
Cocoa: 4-year-old neutered male purebred chocolate Lab, 74 lbs.

Background:
Cocoa’s family got him at 8 weeks from a professional breeder who specializes in Labs for hunting/family pets. They didn’t anticipate the energy level/exercise that a Lab from field lines needs. They love Cocoa, have spent time working/training him. It was a difficult decision to rehome Cocoa. Realized that at their current stage of life, jobs/kids, they can’t meet his needs. Cocoa needs more than 1 daily walk/some fetch in a small backyard. Cocoa was loved/cared for, will thrive in an environment that can better provide the physical/mental stimulation he needs.

For full details/videos: https://labrescue.org/labs/Cocoa2025-02.html

Cocoa’s Current Owner Says:
Cocoa is a well-socialized, food-motivated dog, makes new friends everywhere he goes. It’s hard to give him up for adoption but it’s the right thing to do. His size, energy level, requires a more spacious environment with hunting, fetching, running. Needs to be in a home with active adults to give him the exercise he needs. Uses a side dog run for potty, sleeps/rests in his crate when not supervised. Loves exercise, attention. Has been through multiple training courses, knows many commands, loves walks, does pull. Loves dogs/children. Because of his excitement/size, should be around kids, 13 or older, rather than little ones/elderly, because he eagerly reaches his body forward meeting new people. Crated when not supervised (chews/counter surfing).

Cocoa's Rescue Rep says:
Cocoa is a purebred Lab who will make a wonderful companion for an owner with an active outdoor lifestyle. Energetic/intense/friendly. Field labs can be a bit much for some people. Cocoa needs a job, would love to be your loyal companion on outdoor adventures. Friendly with other dogs (his intensity may be too much for some dogs). Don’t know about cats. Although Cocoa is high energy, does calm/settle down, will be an amazing dog in a home where exercise/mental stimulation needs are met.

From field lines, hasn’t been around guns/don’t know how he’d do as a hunting dog. No off leash training. Needs work on off-leash recall.

Medical Information:
Neutered, chipped, vax current, heartworm neg, on preventatives.

Located in: Pacifica

If you are interested in Cocoa, contact Rescue Rep Katy at [email protected]. Tell her about yourself/why you would be a good fit.

Dusky 6-year-old female chocolate Lab 55 pounds Not yet spayed

Background. Found as a stray in Sacramento County in early November... named "Dusky" by the shelter... this chocolate gal is suffering from some severe skin/fur issues. She was very affiliative to the shelter staff.

Meet 6-year-old female chocolate Lab Dusky -- https://youtu.be/EF553FnzIBw

Dusky doesn't really care about chew toys -- https://youtu.be/WyIcmdwaYgE

Dusky with shelter staff -- https://youtube.com/shorts/iERpWgo3aEw?si=x6ihzGt2nSVGnT2f

Bopping around Diesel Ranch -- https://youtu.be/y1F_zmHF_gg

What Dusky's Rescue Rep (and current foster) says. What a darling dog! Very eager for attention and affection. No food guarding issues; not really interested in food or treats. Not interest in chew toys either. Loves bopping around my yard checking things out. Sleeps through the night on her dog bed. Has met all my dogs (Diesel, Molly, and Blackjack). She can be a little snarky when (annoying) Blackjack gets in her face. Gobbles her food (and meds) down. In just the week I have had Dusky, her skin and fur is improving. No idea how Dusky is with cats.

Medical. Dusky is current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Not yet spayed. The infection in her left ear is resolving. She has been diagnosed by a doggie dermatologist with Pemphigus foliaceus, a condition where the immune system attacks the skin. https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/pemphigus-in-dogs To combat this skin affliction, she is taking prednisone and Cyclavance daily.

Dusky is currently located in: Placerville.

If you are interested in adopting Dusky, contact Rescue Rep Dave at [email protected].

ADOPTION PENDING
Tigger: 1 year-old neutered male black Lab mix, 46 lbs.

Background:
This handsome boy was bouncing off the walls with stress at the shelter, so GGLRR swooped in to find a foster home. He is turning out to be a sweet/wonderful dog, though it seems like he hasn’t had much life experience. The shelter listed him as 1 year old though we think he could be younger.

For full details/videos: https://labrescue.org/labs/Tigger2025-02.html

Tigger’s foster says:
Tigger is a calm dog. but nervous as it appears things are new to him. He cowers when you reach too quickly for his head/pet him but is getting more comfortable. Walking him with a harness, does pull slightly. Knows Sit/Come however hesitant to do them as it seems like they weren’t rewarding activities in his previous life. The first 8 hours I had him, he wouldn’t walk through a doorway, so we had to carry him. Now goes in/out of doors with ease.

Tigger goes into his crate/sleeps quietly through the night; Voluntarily spends time in crate. If there is motion in the house, he quickly investigates. Kept in crate when I left home, but I left for an hour allowing him to roam the house and he was fine. Hasn’t chewed on anything, potty trained. During the day, hangs with me in the computer room.

He’s met small/large dogs with no problems. Walks fine with a neighbor's boxer. Allows me to pet him everywhere. Has shown little interest in toys. Hoping he will become more playful. Just starting to wag his tail when I come home. Does better with praise than discipline.

Tigger's Rescue Rep says:
Tigger is settling in at his foster home, starting to come out of his shell. Will make a great companion for an adopter who takes things slowly. Enjoy running around the yard. Not much of a cuddler prefers to just hang out with you. Might do best in a quiet home. No sure about cats. Is a happy, smart, well-behaved dog!

Medical Information:
Neutered, chipped, current on vax, heartworm neg, on preventative.

Located in: San Jose

If you are interested in Tigger, contact Rescue Rep Katy at [email protected]

From Rescue Rep Dave

Merlin came through the GGLRR program back in early 2015.

He was quite a handful in our program... but found his calling with the Search Dog team and his owner/handler Frankie in Utah Task Force One.

A recent letter from the Search Dog Foundation:

February 10, 2025

Hello Dave,

I am very sorry to share that retired search dog Merlin crossed the Rainbow Bridge last week. His handler, mom, and best friend, Frankie Grant, was with him and did everything possible to help him live a long and healthy life. At nearly 12 years of age, Merlin has had some health concerns this past year and it was time to say goodbye to this sweet boy.

Merlin lived a very active and happy life with Frankie in Utah. He regularly went hiking and lake swimming until very recently. Merlin was Frankie’s “baby” and his absence has left a void that will be very difficult to fill. Frankie is immensely grateful to all of Merlin’s supporters along his journey.

We are always sad to hear when a canine has passed away but will honor Merlin at SDF’s Canine Memorial Wall at our National Training Center. Thank you for the role you played in Merlin’s life and we invite you to come see his canine memorial tile if you are ever in the area.

Charlie Brown - Male yellow Lab mix ~14-weeks-old

Background. Good grief, Charlie Brown! This charming guy was among seven puppies found nursing from their mama dog in a "red-tagged" abandoned house in Lake County. Taken to the Lake County shelter for care and safety, we brought them and mama into our program on 23 December. We are delighted to have the opportunity to help them find some awesome forever homes. Mama dog and four of Charlie Brown's siblings have been adopted.

For full details/videos: https://labrescue.org/labs/CharlieBrown2025-01.html

What Charlie Brown's foster says. An absolute hoot! CB romps and wrestles with his brother Schroeder until they pass out from exhaustion. He is sleeping quite well through the night; lights out around 10:30 PM... with a white noise machine making chirping cricket sounds... He starts to stir ~6 AM. Feeding him three times per day, he is a voracious eater. Still working on his house-training. Charlie Brown wants to romp and play with my other adult dogs. I've been taking CB outside to my yard and he is in heaven exploring the 2-acres of Diesel Ranch.

What Charlie Brown's Rescue Rep says. Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby in the home: demanding for care, can't be left alone much. The adopters will need to be home most (if not all the time), have a backyard, be fully aware of what puppy care is all about. Not for those not ready to fully commit to puppy care. Need to have a plan for puppy socialization. Prior young dog experience is not required. No other dogs in the home under 2 years old. Cats okay. Employment of a crate/exercise pen (x-pen) will be important.

Medical. In fine health. He has received all 3-distemper vax. Cleared to go out in public. Neutering, chipping, Rabies vax in future GGLRR will cover.

Located in: Placerville.

If you would like to adopt Charlie Brown, contact Rescue Rep Kris at [email protected].

Sleeping through the night; lights out around 10:30 PM... with a white noise machine making chirping cricket sounds... Starts to stir 6 AM. Feeding him 3 times per day, a voracious eater. Still working on house-training. Wants to romp/play with my other adult dogs. I've been taking him outside to my yard. He’s in heaven exploring the 2-acres of Diesel Ranch.

What Schroeder's Rescue Rep says. Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby in the home: demanding for care, can't be left alone much. Eat, poop/pee, play, sleep... repeat, repeat, repeat. Puppy-raising is also filled with joy and fun. Young puppies have sharp teeth and tend to go for human toes and fingers when available. The adopters will need to be home most (if not all the time), have a home with a backyard, and be fully aware of what puppy care is all about. Not for those who are not ready to fully commit to puppy care. Need to have a plan for puppy training and socialization with other puppies. Prior young dog experience is not required but preferable. No other dogs in the home under two years old, please. Cats okay. The employment of a crate and exercise pen (x-pen) will be important too.

A fabulous read: Puppy World --https://marinhumane.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Puppy-World.pdf

Medical. In fine health - currently 23 lbs. Received all 3 rounds of distemper vax. Is cleared to go out in public and take on the world. Neutering, chipping, Rabies vax in future. Lab Rescue will cover.

Located in: Placerville.

Pink - 14-week-old female Lab mix - 19 lbs.

Background. Pink is from Molly's litter (see her litter on our YouTube channel). 8 puppies of 9 have been adopted. We've saved rock star Pink for last!

For complete details/videos: https://labrescue.org/labs/Pink2025-01.html

What Pink's foster says. Pink is making progress with potty training, quickly learning new commands. A highly intelligent Lab puppy who now knows some basic commands. Enjoys being around people. Happy to entertain herself with toys.

At night, Pink sleeps comfortably in her crate/x-pen. Her combination of intelligence, playfulness makes her a joy to be around. With her loving nature/eager-to-please personality, she will make a fantastic addition to any home.

What Pink's Rescue Rep says. Pink is a darling. A special dog (see medical comments). Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby: can't be left alone much. Adopters will need to be home most, if not all the time, have a home with a backyard, be aware of what puppy care is all about. Need to fully commit, have plan for puppy socialization. Prior young dog experience not required. No other dogs under 2 years old. Cats okay. Use of crate/exercise pen (x-pen) is important. Looking for a home with minimal stairs/steps. Adopter will need to accept Pink for the special dog she is so she’ll thrive.

Medical. In good health. Had 2 of 3 distemper vax. Our vet believes that Pink exhibits the signs of dwarfism. Her legs are shorter/front paws are turned outwards. She might get arthritis in her joints earlier than expected. Our vet determined that Pink's right eye has a detached retina resulting in likely no/very limited vision in her right eye. Has some small cataracts in her left eye but not large enough to impact her vision currently. We’re impressed with Pink's ability to get around/navigate things despite her eye issues. Not fully vax yet/will be confined to the adopter's home until her third distemper vax (mid-February), and to ensure she doesn’t contact parvo, etc. GGLRR will work with adopter to spay Pink down the road.

Located in: Orinda.

If you are interested in adopting Pink, contact Rescue Rep Dave at [email protected].
