Since December of 2023, we have had the honor to care for a precious kitten named Edith, who is in all accounts a warrior. This kitten has defied the odds and has had one scary diagnosis after the other. In our decade of cat rescue we have never seen a case quite like hers.
First she was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. She was born with an enlarged heart and we were given instruction that it might not end well for her, but she continued to fight and grow and proved everyone wrong. Her heart diagnosis included an x-ray, radiology and a consultation with a cardiologist to ensure she would be fit and healthy enough to undergo a crucial spay procedure. After several months of heart medication and TLC, her heart grew stronger and is now a slight murmur.
2 1/2 months ago she was diagnosed with FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), which historically was a very fatal disease in cats, but thanks to advancements in the last few years, we are now able to save many kitties who form this disease. Being that Edith is a fighter, she has been responding really well to her 90 day FIP treatment!
Her cardiologist advised that we wait on her spay until she finished her FIP treatment, however as of 5/30/2024 Edith was diagnosed with Pyometra (a bacterial infection in her uterous)! We rushed her to Ocean Veterinary Clinic where she has been receiving incredible care by their dedicated vet team to undergo an emergency spay surgery and removal of the uterus. This procedure was over $5,000 and she will require continued aftercare treatment. We want to keep fighting for Edith because she has already come so far and defied the odds that were not on her side early on in her kitten hood!
Her favorite things are jumping on shoulders to take in the scenes of the cat lounge, cuddle with her friends (both cats and humans) and jump/flip in the air after wand toys. We hope she can have many more years of the above.
Your contribution helps KitTea to continue to save special needs cats like Edith, as every cat deserves a clean bill of health and the chance to find a forever home.
Thank you so much in advance for any contribution you can provide - even if your contribution cannot be monetary (we completely understand and times are really tough right now) - sharing is just as appreciated and helpful!
