How do you build a recall with a new puppy? Only call your dog when you KNOW they will be success! This repetition will create successful learning and give more freedom overall. Franny demonstrates this beautifully at outdoor education!

Azul is a shy puppy who is building confidence 👏🏻
Today at dayschool, puppies got to work on some impulse control by playing airplane game!
Airplane game is done by slowly bringing a treat down to your pups nose while they are sitting and if your pup jumps up, you reset and start over. The goal is to be able to bring the treat down super slowly while your pup still holds the sit position!
We played a game called sit to sit to help encourage puppies to sit right next to our side! Adding in some movement helps guide the puppy and shows them where exactly we want them positioned.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Check out @pup_professor working on downs with some of the dayschool pups!
A basic “leave-it” at its finest rewards a puppy for moving away from a desired object! Here we present a closed hand with kibble - very enticing! The puppy has full access to the hand but not the kibble within. Puppy chooses how long to work at their first strategy of pawing or licking at the hand but it never works to get the kibble. The very moment puppy moves away from the hand, we mark and feed turkey (even better than kibble!) This will teach puppy that moving away is a way better strategy than moving towards it. After some practice they won’t even try!
Ever notice your puppy jumps the most when there is action and activity? Us too 😁 but as they say, “you have to learn to crawl before you can run.” For puppies, it’s so important to introduce new challenges slowly and teach our puppies what to do in those situations, before expecting mastery. Here, we are teach the “sit” cue while adding some mild movement as an additional distraction to build towards much more exciting scenarios. If our puppies are sitting, they can’t also jump up!
