Moose can't wait to become a permanent resident in a home like this! Moose has been hanging out in foster homes because she's most comfortable in that environment and we understand.

Staff member and foster parent, Regina, had this to say about Moose as a house guest!

"Oh man, Miss Moose is a true gem! She greets me with the happiest, bounciest energy and then loves to just hang and chill. Moose opened up quickly and now loves exploring the neighborhood with me. We've been taking long walks, stopping to get coffee, and then relaxing for the rest of the day."

Our pups from LA are settling in and two have even been adopted!

Although they came to us under scary circumstances and as a result of a crisis, we’re so happy they’re here and ready to be adopted by great Bay Area folks.

Bambi and Chowder have been adopted, but Lugnut is available in our adoption center. Mina will be available for adoption soon!

Zoe went on a fun field trip to Heron's Head Park with volunteer, Lotta!

Zoe was a wonderful passenger, hopping straight into the car to start her adventure. She did great walking along the path and we learned a few important things about her.

1. Zoe loves to roll in the grass!
2. She is not a fan of the water, or at least, not a fan of water lapping on her paws. 😌

Adopt Zoe and you'll learn everything there is to know about this cute, sweet, and surprising gal!

Mimiru (formerly known as Mila) has adjusted to her new home fantastically after being adopted in September 2024! She loves going on outings with her dad, reading the latest scoop in magazines, and cozying up in her hammock after a long day. 🥰

This is the kind life we hope for all of our animals after they find their families! 💕

All puppies have been adopted!!! 😍😍😍

Since beginning our LA wildfire relief efforts just last week, 123 animals have found their forever homes—72 puppies & dogs and 51 kittens & cats! Here are just a few of the sweet adoptions including long-time resident, shaggy boy Robbie!

Thank you all so much for opening up your hearts and homes to our animals. Everything we're able to accomplish only happens because of an amazing community like you. In addition, words can't even begin to describe our thanks for your generosity and willingness to help; it's simply incredible to witness and feel the massive outpouring of support for our work and shelter partners. 🥹🥰

Because all of our puppies have found their families, the puppy adoption special has ended, but be sure to keep an eye on our website for when more animals become available! sfspca.org/adoptions

They’re here! LA ✈️🚙 SF

Today we welcomed 35 cats and dogs from the Downey, Lancaster, and Carson/Gardena locations of LA County Animal Care & Control . These animals were already in the shelters and transported up so they have space for displaced animals from the wildfires. A number of animals are staying with us and others will be transferred to animal shelters in the area!

A big thank you to our friends and .flight for making the trip and even flying our Director of Shelter Medicine and staff pup Pickles! 💗

More to come so be sure to follow us and stay tuned!

LA here we come! 💪❤️

Two vans loaded with donations and supplies are heading down South to help shelters clear space for animals impacted by the wildfires. We'll keep everyone updated when the team and animals have safely made it back to the Bay.

Thank you all so much for your support over the last few days! 💕 Here are a few ways you can help:

1. Adopt! Adopting a pet makes room so we can bring back even more animals during this crisis, and bonus, ALL PUPPIES in our shelter have their adoption fee waived for a limited time! 🐶

2. We need foster volunteers as we continue making space at our shelter, no prior trainings required!

Our hearts are with everyone impacted by the devastating fires in Southern California. Throughout this immense crisis we are so moved by the tireless work of animal welfare organizations and the support of the community.

Wildfires are a harsh reality in our state, and we urge everyone to remain prepared in case of an emergency. Have a Pet Emergency "Go" Bag ready, as well as a go bag for yourselves, at all times and refresh items as needed.

Meet Katara, an adorably cute one-year-old Boxer mix! 🌊

Like the animated character that shares her name, she's a firecracker with an incredible warmth and sweetness. When she's comfortable around her human friends, Katara loves leaning in for pets and crawling into your lap. She's also a life-long learner and is currently working on fundamental behaviors like sit, down, and impulse control. If "adopt a new pet" was on your New Year's list, Katara could be the one for you! 💕

Meet Bernard Tibbins, a three-month-old Shepherd mix! 🐶

Bernard was treated for Parvovirus when he first arrived... and made it through to the other side! Despite his scary beginning, Bernard is a sweetheart who loves to play and hang out with his human pals. This survivor is primed to start his next chapter in life, so who's ready to give it to him? 😍

The impact of your support is lived out every day here at the SF SPCA. ☺️

One of those stories is Jake.

He had been dealt a tough hand by the time he arrived at our shelter. His left leg needed to be amputated while he was with our partner shelter in Fresno due to a significant fracture to his thigh bone. Upon examining him further, our Shelter Medicine team realized his one “good” leg wasn’t so good! He also had a fracture on the femur of his right leg near his hip joint. The injuries Jake sustained were likely the result of being hit by a car. 😢

Fortunately, our Shelter Medicine team had seen this type of injury before and knew exactly what to do! After a successful surgery to his right leg, check-ups, and weeks of rehabilitation with a foster family who helped him walk again, Jake made a full recovery! 🎉

Today, Jake is living the good life as a tripod with his new dad, and it's all thanks to donors who support our work.

🙏 Please consider making a 3x matched donation today to help even more animals like Jake receive the happy ending they deserve: https://sfspca.donorsupport.co/page/FUNZRCMDHRK

As 2024 comes to a close, it's our hope that all of our current animals find a home before the year is up, and none more so than our two longest-stay canine residents who you can adopt for FREE. 💝

Robbie has been with us for 214 days and Boba Fetch for 195 days. That means that Robbie and Boba Fetch have been with us for over half a year! Each can have their shy moments, as well as their eccentric moments, but that's what makes them so charming. 🥰 Both Robbie and Boba Fetch would like to be the only dog in their homes which means that you'll get their unique brand of love to yourself.

Let's get Robbie and Boba Fetch adopted so they can start off 2025 right! 🎉

We are open from 11am-4pm tomorrow, New Year's Eve, and closed on New Year's Day. We can't wait to introduce you to Robbie and Boba Fetch!

How we’re handling Coronavirus and shelter-in-place.

Dear Friends

Thank you for making all of our lifesaving work possible. We are so grateful for you all. Governor Newsom recently updated his stay-at-home order to clarify that animal care facilities, including animal shelters are essential services.

We are doing everything we can to keep our staff healthy so we can continue to be here for you if your beloved pet needs urgent care and to be here for our shelter animals.

Here is the status of our programs and services:
