Here’s a heart-warming from Maisie! šŸ¤Ž

Twenty years ago, Denise adopted a dog from SGVHS and had such a great experience that she knew she’d return when the time was right. What was most important to her was finding a shelter that truly loved and cared for its animals.

This time, she was looking for an extra-gentle dog for her 5-year-old niece, a frequent visitor to her home. Having grown up with German Shepherds, Denise felt it was the perfect breed. At the shelter, her niece accompanied her, and as they passed Maisie’s kennel, they noticed how quiet and calm she was. ā€œNot only was Maisie a beautiful dog, she also had kind eyes,ā€ said Denise. ā€œIt was love at first sight!ā€

In the meet-and-greet area, they discovered how playful and sweet Maisie was. Denise’s niece immediately declared, ā€œI love her!ā€ The next day, the whole family came to meet her and the connection was complete. They adopted Maisie on the spot, renaming her CeCe.

Once home, they started by hanging out in the backyard, and it took two days for CeCe to feel comfortable going inside the house. Recognizing the importance of training, they started within a week of bringing her home. It worked wonderfully, helping CeCe adjust to her new life quickly.

Now, CeCe and her family love going on walks, hikes, and playing fetch with her Giggle Ball toy—she has an obsessive love for it and could play all day! She’s also crazy for car rides and going ā€œbye-bye.ā€

CeCe completed 8 weeks of dog training and was a star student, though she still throws a little tantrum: she barks and rolls around on the floor when reminded not to go into the kitchen during dinner. ā€œIt is very funny and makes us laugh every single time,ā€ Denise said.

When asked how their lives have changed since bringing CeCe home, Denise said: ā€œCeCe is the sweetest dog ever. We don’t have any children of our own, and now she is our fur child. It is so nice to lie on the couch with this big, lovable, furry baby. She looks at us with such love in her eyes and we just can’t imagine life without her. She is our baby.ā€

If this story speaks to you, please consider meeting one of the many wonderful GSD pups (or any of our dogs!) currently in our care. Your own love-at-first-sight story could be waiting for you. šŸ•šŸ’–

You’re not seeing double - this stunning pair of 5-year-old Siberian Huskies are looking for a home!

Mitski is a gentle soul, a little shy at first but incredibly sweet once she trusts you. Minero is her hilarious counterpart, a total goofball who isn’t afraid to express his love—often by jumping up for a full-on hug! He’s also a clever boy who sits perfectly on his back legs to ask for treats.

It’s heartwarming to watch them play and balance each other out. While they can be adopted individually, we know a home with room for both would be their dream come true. We even offer a buddy discount for the perfect family! Could that be you?

But he deserves a real home and a family to adore him, day in and day out. Could that be you?

Help us find Roscoe's reason to smile every single day. Share his story or inquire about adopting him! Just ask for Roscoe šŸ’™

This features Ghosty, formerly known as Ice, who shows us that not every husky is like the rest!

Stella initially visited us to help her friend adopt two kittens. While she was there she decided to take a peek at the dogs because her own dog had passed from cancer a few months before. She was initially interested in a different dog but then she saw Ice, a snow white Husky mix. Ice drew her attention because he was quietly lying down amidst the loud barking of all the other dogs. When she was told Ice was a Husky, she was initially hesitant to meet him as she had heard lots of stories of Huskies being an excitable breed.

She went ahead with the meeting anyway and Ice was very passive and calm and didn’t really respond much to pets or attention. But he did like treats! Stella came back with her son and daughter and again the family was surprised by how calm Ice was. They decided to take him home and named him Ghosty.

Once home, they found Ghosty to be very well-mannered. He was already potty trained, very respectful of the house (never chewing anything) and he possessed a very mellow disposition. It saddened Stella to think that someone had given up this wonderful dog. At first, Ghosty didn’t know how to play with tennis balls or squeaky toys and he pretty much stayed in his bed. After about three weeks he realized here was a bigger house to explore.

It surprised Stella how well Ghosty did when she went to the office a couple times a week. As soon as she gets home it’s time for his walk, and he comes running and begs to go. Ghosty loves to be as close as possible to anyone who’s in the house. He still doesn’t play too much with toys, but loves getting scratches, getting brushed, lying in the grass and riding in the car. He also likes to be chased and play hide and seek! It cracks the family up how he freezes when they chase him—thinking that will make him invisible to them. Ghosty is also quite the napper who is known to snore at times.

Stella says she never thought she’d get a Husky but she’s so glad she did. ā€œHe’s such a sweet dog and I can’t believe I found him at the shelter. I know he was meant to come home with me. My family loves him too! Although someone chose to not take care of him anymore, I am happy I am able to give him lots of love and a home. Because I found my Ghosty there, I am forever connected to San Gabriel Valley Humane Society.ā€
