My husband and I contemplated many different breeds. We previously had Alaskan Malamutes and bred them as well. Although we spent hours researching different breeds, we loved Malamutes so much that it was only natural for us to get a toddler friendly family member we could trust with our son. We found a puppy we wanted in Texas, born 4-13-12. We did not want her on a plane in the middle of summer.
We decided to make it a family vacation to pick up our puppy. We drove route 66 from Ca to Arizona, then made a side trip to the Grand Canyon of course. Then we continued to New Mexico and finally Texas, where we made our way down through the state to pick up our baby. We were so excited to see her great temperament with our son at 3 1/2, he was so in love with his puppy. He named her Red right on the spot. Since this is his choice, on the drive home we wondered how we would work Red into her name. After watching many beautiful sunsets, it finally came to us, Red Skies at Night. Better yet, hubby said, "Desert, for where we live and Star for Texas,' thus; Desert Star's Red Skies at Night. Red is very spoiled, as a indoor puppy she wants to be with us always. She loves car rides and although she's growing fast, she still thinks she is small. This past November, one of our pack, Kodi, passed away. Spaz, his best friend, lost his s***k. I tear up knowing he too will be leaving us soon. She loves to play with our Mini-Dachsund, Tiki, but sometimes she doesn't know her own strength. That's when we knew it was time for Red to get a mate. After reviewing so many pedigrees, we finally found her companion. Loki's Northern Light, born 2-9-13. We look forward to this year's family weekend trip to pick up Loki. At just under 400 miles, it seems like a day trip. So we decided to take Red with us!
