Class is held at 1770 Hester avenue in San Jose
In this four class we will work on strengthening your bond with your dog using fun games, play and yes practicing skills.
Walking you dog should be a fun experience for both of you. Does your dog only come like 50% of the time? or only when you have treats?
Then this class is for you and your dog.
We will work on:

*focus
*heeling V loose Leash Walking
*Impulse control: wait
*games to get you dog wanting to be with you
*recall games
*settling when asked
*Jumping up
* the importance of letting your dog sniff and incorporating it as a reward in your walks

This class is for fully vaccinated dogs that are dog and people friendly/neutral.

New six week AKC STAR Puppy 1 and 2 starting this Friday at Hester and at Petfood Express on Blossom Hill Rd.

The AKC STAR Puppy Program is designed to get you and your puppy of to a great starts. The AKC STAR puppy requires owners to attend a basic six week puppy class with their puppy. For puppies
between eight weeks and six months of age at the start of class, we require that the puppies had at least one set of shots, and have been with the new family for a week.
STAR stands for: Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsible ownership.

Puppy's brains are like sponges, and they can learn so much their first couple of months after you get them home. Training does not start in class. Every minute of the day, they are learning and observing. Start them early, and they can achieve great things!

In this class, we will work on lots of engagement through play and teach you how to communicate with your puppy and to understand them better.

We will teach and practice: come when called, sit and down, heel position, loose leash walking, drop it on cue, leave it, wait and stay.

We go over crate training, play pen training, how to settle your puppy, inappropriate chewing, biting, barking, jumping, digging, door manners, and we will address grooming and handling.

New AKC STAR Puppy 1 classes starting December 2 with Dieuwke and a new class starting Tuesday December 3 with Leena (no class 12/24 and 12/31) Both classes at our San Jose location just south of Santana Row.

In our classes, we mostly use food reward, toy play then life rewards. Don't be thrifty rewarding them, use their regular daily food or part of it for training. You can break up your dog's kibble into even smaller pieces. Or find a small size kibble. Change up your dog's food if their guts allow it.
Make your own dog training treats using whole foods.
I never buy training treats, I rotate their kibble which is either freeze dried or air dried, so they get variety. And I occasionally make dehydrated treats from just meat.
