Are you a snack grazer? African spurred tortoises are, too! Like all tortoises, they are herbivores. They spend a large portion of the day grazing and require diets high in fiber. In the wild, they eat grasses, flowers and weeds. At Happy Hollow, Kengele gets a diet of mostly grass hay, greens and vegetables.

Itβs brumation season for Bayou the American alligator! During colder seasons when temperatures dip and days shorten, alligators and many other reptiles go into a state of βsuspended animation,β similar to hibernation, known as brumation. Their digestion, heart rate and breathing slow down to save energy. While hibernating animals will remain in hibernation for the entire period, reptiles will come in and out of brumation depending on the outside temperature. If you visit Bayou during the fall or winter, you might find him looking slightly pale with barely any movement. This means heβs in brumation.π But itβs okay, because heβs just a chill guy π
