Food, mock-tails, music & instruction while you sketch and paint a portrait of the star animal of the night. The next Teen Paint Night Theme is Cookie Luv’n. No euphemisms here... We are painting cookies! Get creative while painting sugar cookies with food color brushes, and pens. Whether these masterpieces make it home or not, we’re not telling. Attention teachers and chaperones: this is your reminder to book your Happy Hollow field trips! Spring group reservations at Happy Hollow are almost full.

Do you know a teacher or children's playgroup leader looking to finalize their end-of-school-year field trip activities? Send them a reminder to book their group reservation as soon as possible! Groups of 14 or more people qualify for the discounted price of $12 per ticket. Title I schools can qualify for $11 per tickets.

Did you know that Happy Hollow's maintenance team takes on unique projects, like upgrading animal habitats?

When Happy Hollow needed to close the jaguar and red panda habitats for several months for routine construction, the Zoo team knew there was an opportunity to do even more. Larger projects on habitats often require the animals to be temporarily moved to a different space, which provides levels of access to the habitat that are not possible when then animal is present, even in their off-habitat night house. Taking every advantage of this opportunity, a collaboration between the Zoo and Maintenance teams resulted in upgrades to the interior of the habitats while an outside construction company took care of the replacement of the exterior poles and netting.

Today, we shine a spotlight on the unique and vital desert ecosystems that are home to incredible species like the California desert tortoise, African spurred tortoise and the adorable fennec fox. These resilient desert dwellers face growing threats from climate change, habitat loss, invasive species and human activities.

At Happy Hollow, we proudly care for these desert residents, including Tortellini, Gordi, Kengele and Luna, and help raise awareness of their importance. 🌿

Happy Hollow provides easy drop-off locations for recycling your old electronic devices! Simply bring them to the Guest Services building or the Administration Office during regular hours.

By recycling your electronics, you're helping to reduce harmful waste in landfills and supporting the reuse of valuable materials. This also lessens the need for mining in fragile ecosystems, such as the extraction of coltan in Africa, which endangers wildlife like elephants and gorillas. 🐘🦍

♻️ Accepted Devices: cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, GPS units, MP3 players, e-readers, digital cameras, chargers, and adapters. 📷

Are you a snack grazer? African spurred tortoises are, too! Like all tortoises, they are herbivores. They spend a large portion of the day grazing and require diets high in fiber. In the wild, they eat grasses, flowers and weeds. At Happy Hollow, Kengele gets a diet of mostly grass hay, greens and vegetables. 📹: Keeper Emily
