Angie (ID ) has been on a few more Tails & Trails adventures with her favorite recently. Here is what these did together:

“Angie and I went on a long walk to Hellyer County Park. She was so excited to see me at the reception desk with her tail wagging and giving me lots of kisses. At the park we walked around the lake that has ducks and geese. Angie was not bothered by the birds at all and was happy walking around the path. We saw many people walking their dogs. She is very interested in other dogs and jumps up and down when she sees them. She does not bark or growl at them, just gets very hyper and bouncy. On the ride back to the shelter, Angie was tired and rested for a few minutes in the back seat. We had a great time together.”

Here is what Angie’s adventure buddy thinks potential should know:

“Angie is very friendly with humans and wants to meet them and say hello. She is not aggressive to other dogs but is definitely curious about them. She loves to be petted and stay close to her human friends. She is not very interested in treats but enjoys them in the car ride.”

We have some awesome art to share with you this evening , check it out! A little while back a local art teacher who is an advisor of the National Art Honor Society, Art club, and Mural Club at Los Altos High School, reached out to us. The teacher and students wanted to provide our shelter with something art related in addition to donations of items our shelter needs from our Shelter Wishlist.

We decided that portraits of our Most Overlooked Dogs would be so cool. The students went above and beyond even creating art of adopted or rescued Most Overlooked Dogs and a few other who have been with us for a while.

Thank you to the and for these amazing . We can’t wait to hang up the physical ones around our shelter. We know the students are excited to create more art of our shelter pets and we can’t wait to see more from them.

Loki (ID ) went on another Tails & Trails adventure and had the best day ever! He is very excited to tell you all about it:

“Today was the best day! It started with the car ride—oh boy, I love the car. I was so excited that I could hardly sit still. My nose was going a million miles a minute, trying to catch all the smells wafting through the window.

When we got to the park, there were so many people and dogs—but my human buddy put me to the side in a SIT and gave treats! I love salmon jerky – yum! Much more interesting than the passing humans and dogs. Being outdoors, I still feel like a puppy. I was trying to run around, spin in circles, and jumped up to give the humans lots of kisses. I just wanted to show just how happy I am.

On the way back, we stopped for puppucinos! That creamy, frothy goodness was the cherry on top of an amazing day. I licked that cup clean in, like, two seconds. And then—more kisses. It’s my way of showing how happy I am.”

Here is what my had to say about our day:

“Despite his age, Loki has a lot of puppy-like energy. He knows “sit” very well, and it’s a good way of distracting him from other people, dogs, etc. in the park. At the start, he was quite amped up in the car, but after a few minutes and one salmon jerky, he sat quietly for the rest of the ride.

I could tell he likes to run if given the opportunity – he liked to race up the hill and did a much better job of it than this human. He loves to give kisses, and sometimes he’ll jump to give you one – I think it’s just his way of saying how absolutely happy he is.

Loki pulled a good part of the walk, so I would suggest that his furever family be ready for a strong dog, but easily manageable."

Happy everyone! It’s been way too long since we shared some stories so we though we would bless your timeline with these .

Marceline:

“I adopted Marceline, formally known as Molly in November 2024. The first night she stayed with me, she hid behind my toilet and I laid in the bathroom reassuring her and waiting for her. 20 minutes later, she walked down and cuddled right on my lap. Ever since then she has never hidden or showed any shyness to me or any guests that come over. She loves my other animals and is extremely curious, playful and loving. I’m happy I was able to give her a forever home.”

Lieutenant Dan:

“I came by the shelter to get a dog I saw online. As I was leaving, I saw him in the window. He was adorable and seemed playful with a sweet disposition. We met and I decided to bring him home. He’s such a sweet boy and he blended right in with my cats and my dog. He brings a playful kitten element to the house, and he does it all on one leg!”

Luna:

“She came into my life when I needed her the most and she’s the one I always look forward to coming home from work seeing her wait for me by the door make me happy she’s a good companion to my elderly mom as well who has dementia, she’s the light of the house 💜”

Curly Fry:

“Curly Fry is such a loving cat and very energetic!”

These always warm our hearts and know our staff volunteers love reading about them as well. Seeing them thrive in their is one of the best parts of working with these amazing .

Happy World Stray Animals Day Community! We have an amazing reunification story to share with you on this special day of highlighting the struggles stray animals face and what you can to do help.

Bip's reunification was nothing was so moving and nothing short of a miracle. He was lost in Redwood City and found in San José. How a nearly deaf and blind senior dog with heart issues made it all this way, we may never know. He was brought to the shelter by a San José good Samaritan on Tuesday.

As soon as BIP’s family realized he went missing, they sprang into action, posting on their social media platforms and contacting their local shelters. Even enlisting the help of Susan Packer from who provided guidance and support to Cindi the owner. They confirmed that BIP’s microchip was registered which was critical.

When Cindi found out her dog was at our shelter, she came down to us immediately and reunited with her baby who she rescued as a stray many years ago.

Congratulations to BIP and Cindi. We are so happy that they were reunited so quickly. This is a great reminder on to microchip your pets and to make sure to register it. A microchip greatly increases your odds of reuniting with your pet if they ever do get lost.

If you found a stray, go to your local animal shelter to see if they have a microchip and get it scanned.

Nova (ID ) went on another Tails & Trails adventure a little while back and she is very excited to tell you all about it!

“Today, we went to a park with a lot of amazing scents! We saw birds, squirrels, runners, walkers, bikers, and cars, but I was more interested in saying hi to each doggo friend we ran into. My friend reminded me to greet them from a distance.

Besides enjoying yummy treats, I took my time sniffing and showed off my loose-leash walking skills to my friend. I got jumpy with sudden noises, so my friend took me to a quiet neighborhood with less traffic. I had such a great time, and I didn’t want to go back!”

Here is what Nova’s had to say about her:

“Nova is a noise-sensitive girl. She gets nervous in new environments, but with patience and treats to motivate her, she will do great.

She moved around and got a little jumpy when I put her collar and harness on. When I led her to my car, she was unsure and nervous. We took it slow—I motivated her with treats and gave her a little boost onto the backseat. She rode beautifully to Jeffrey Fontana Park and even took a nap on our way back. Once we arrived, she needed a little coaxing to get out.

Nova has great loose-leash walking skills, knows ‘sit,’ and frequently checks in with her handler. She deserves a family that can provide the love and support she needs to be her best self. Come and meet Nova!"

If you are interested in a Most Overlooked Dog Nova, come to our shelter at 2750 Monterey Road in San José to meet her.

Hi there, I’m Lilo (ID ) and my adventure the other day was the best day ever! 🐶💛

I was SO excited to get out of my kennel—I couldn’t stop wiggling with joy! I jumped right into the car like I owned it and stuck my head out the window to feel the breeze (best feeling ever).

Our adventure took us to Almaden Quicksilver Trail, where I got to hike 3.5 miles of sniff-tastic trails. I was full of energy but walked nicely on my leash the whole way. After that, we stopped at Jeffrey Fontana Park, where I had a blast chasing the ball and cooling off in a little mud puddle.

Even with other dogs around, I stayed calm and focused on my adventure buddy. I’m a smart girl who listens well—I sat and even laid down when asked at PetSmart, where I got a new brush, ear wipes, and, best of all…jerky treats! 😍

I’m smart, pretty, and full of love—now all I need is a forever home! Could it be with you? Come Meet me today!

Here are a few more things Lilo’s adventure buddy noticed while out and about together: “Lilo is...

🐾 Energetic and Adventurous – I love exploring the outdoors, going on hikes, and feeling the wind in my fur during car rides. An active home would be perfect for me!

🐾 Well-Mannered & Smart – I walk nicely on a leash, listen well, and know basic commands like heel, sit and down. I’m eager to learn and would thrive with continued training.

🐾 Social and Easygoing – I ignore other dogs even when they get excited and stay focused on my handler. I’m confident but not reactive, making me a fantastic companion.

🐾 Fun-Loving and Playful – Whether it’s chasing a ball or rolling in the mud, I embrace life with joy! I’m always up for an adventure but also enjoy a good cuddle after a fun day.

🐾 Food Motivated (But Picky!)

Most importantly, I am so ready for a forever home where I can be loved, have fun, and show off just how amazing I am! 💛🏡🐶”

If you are interested in Lilo, come to our shelter at 2750 Monterey Road in San José to meet her.
