We have some great news for this fine . Yesterday, four cats were adopted from our PAWp-Up. What’s even better is that they were adopted in pairs by two wonderful families.

Noodle and Belle Star (first picture), two black teenage kittens, were adopted together. They are playful, active, and we did accelerated introductions here to see if they were compatible, and they are, but the adopters will do slower intros at home.

Rascal and Rudy are a bonded pair that were adopted together, and we are so glad they found a and can be .

It is a indeed, congratulations to these happy families.

Happy Community! Meet Nam (ID ) a four-year-old looking for a .

Nam has been in a long-term with his little brother Tofu up until recently. They were both brought back to the shelter to be made more visible for adoption. Tofu was adopted this last week and now Nam needs his person to come find him too.

Here are some notes from his time in his foster home:

“Nam took a while to warm up to his foster, but he eventually gained confidence and trust. Typically, Nam only allows his head to be pet. His favorite past time is squeezed between his cat tree and the window. He is not a big cuddler but slept near his foster at night. Both Nam and Tofu loved grooming one another and adore cardboard scratchers.”

Nam would love a home with another friendly cat that he could eventually bond with, but this is not a requirement. All Nam really needs is a loving home.

If you are interested in Nam, come to our shelter at 2750 Monterey Road in San José. You can also check out more shelter cats here: https://www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments-offices/animal-care-services/services/pet-adoption/adopt-a-cat

Looks like Freya (ID ) had a great time on her most recent Dog Day Out with Silicon Valley Pet Project! Looks like she would make the perfect addition to a who has some avid runners or hikers.

Here is what her walker had to say about their fun hike together:

“Freya is a treasure! She needs to learn how to jump in the car as it is completely foreign to her. We went to Almaden Quicksilver hiking trails, and she was very curious about all the smells. She is young, bouncy, and you can’t help but smile when you are with her. So many people commented, “what a happy dog!”

Freya has a bounce in her step that is so endearing and walks very nicely on leash. She checked in with me regularly and knows how to sit on command. She was friendly with other hikers and interested in dogs that passed by but kept moving as cued.

Freya will make a great addition to an active family. We hiked five miles, and she could have gone another few, without a doubt. This happy girl had a huge smile on her face and will have one on yours if you give her the chance.”

Cute puppy Freya is available for adoption or foster, just come down to our shelter at 2750 Monterey Road to meet her. You can also check her out here: https://www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments-offices/animal-care-services/services/pet-adoption/adopt-a-dog

Check out Quintin’s (ID ) most recent Dog Day Out with Silicon Valley Pet Project!

Here is what his walker had to say about their time together:

“Quintin is a very huggable and loving pup. He starts with a healthy amount of energy, but once we got into the hike, he consistently checked in and instead of treats, is really just wanting some scratches and loves giving “check-in” kisses. He’s a pretty strong puller if seeing a bird, squirrel, or another dog, but is quick to disengage if you call him to you. He also wants to make sure everyone in the pack is together; he would stop to make sure my husband caught up to us and was ok. He would do wonderful in a full family - making sure everybody is ok. Quintin is easy to walk if you can manage his strength. He immediately connects with you as if you’ve been best friends forever!

Three Words to Describe Me are: Fun, Cuddly, Loving”

Happy Holidays, Community! We hope you are spending some time with your loved ones this Christmas Eve and getting ready for Christmas tomorrow.

With the upon us we just wanted to help our community keep their pets safe. This season comes with an increase in vet visits because dogs are fed unsafe human food.

So here is a list of what holiday foods are safe for your pups and what holiday foods you should avoid giving your pet.

While the foods on the “Can Eat” side are safe, it’s important to remember that moderation is key. Always consult your veterinarian if you have any concerns or questions.

Happy Community!

Meet Chimney (ID ). Isn't he such a handsome cat? We certainly think so. Little Chimney has quite a unique intake story. Chimney is a seven-month-old kitten who was brought into our shelter back in October.

He was found in a car engine at a car rental in San José Mineta International Airport. We are happy to report that Chimney is safe and sound in our care and is available for adoption.

If you are interested in adopting cute Chimney, come to the San José Animal Care Center and meet him. He would love to find a home just in time for the holidays.

Happy Holidays from Cheddar. We are ending the day with an update on Cheddar. We know that some of you will recognize this little lady, she was brought into our shelter as a stray. Her back legs were not moving, and she couldn’t walk on her own.

Our fit her with a wheelchair and one of our dedicated spent a lot of time with her making sure she felt safe and ready for a .

We did an update on her back in September, and she had made so much progress. Well, we are happy to report that she is doing amazing in her .

Here is what her had to say:

“Six months ago, I adopted Cheddar from your shelter. When I got her, she was in a wheelchair... so, I thought I would give the shelter another update.

“Cheddar is doing fantastic! She is walking and running. We went to a month of rehab and she improved a lot. Cheddar is a very happy little dog and is enjoying life!

We love this type of story because it is a story that warms our hearts.

Here is what Brody’s had to say about him:

“I first learned about Brody at the end of September. Brody was one of a litter of five five-month-old puppies. His four siblings were tragically killed by their sire (father), and he was surrendered by the dogs’ owners to be euthanized. The Field Officer brought him to the shelter instead, but he was so traumatized and shut down he wasn’t able to be placed in a kennel, instead spending his first few days in a crate in the shelter’s office.

Because he was so traumatized, he was listed as “needs urgent foster.” I couldn’t stop thinking about him and his sweet face, so I kept refreshing the page to see if he’d found a foster.

My husband and I decided to go down to the Shelter to meet Brody. When he was brought into a play yard, he was hunched over with his tail between his legs, visibly terrified. He came and sat next to me, and I spoke quietly to him and petted him. He calmed down a bit, and my husband was able to get him to chase after a ball.

After we left, I kept checking his profile and trying to find him a foster, knowing he had to get out of the Shelter. I went back to the Shelter on my own three days later to see Brody, and when he saw me, he jumped up on the kennel and licked my hand.

I signed up as a foster and brought Brody home. We introduced him to Olive (our four 1/2-year-old rescue German Shorthaired Pointer Mix) at the park, and they were instant friends. His transformation was immediate from the first time he walked into our home. It’s as if he knew he was finally safe and home.

Since Brody has been a part of our family, he’s mastered house training. He’s so sweet and snuggly, and loves being with his people when he’s not playing and wrestling with Olive.

So many people have pre-conceived notions about Pit and Pit mixes, but Brody couldn’t be any sweeter! He’s a wonderful addition to our family!”

Brody was officially adopted on Dec. 10. Thank you to this kind family for giving Brody such a loving
