Continuing with some throwbacks, this was only a year ago! Rumor has it we are actually prettttttty close to passing 1,800 adoptions 🙀 We are finding homes for so many cats (an excellent non-problem to have!) that we cannot keep up in real time with the announcements! Thank you for your patience as we share adoption posts for our kitties, their stories are important, meaningful and deserving of attention.

Ernie we are still thrilled you found the greatest forever home and you wouldn't even believe it, but the same kind people who helped pay for your medical bills have helped us rescue nearly 400 more cats since your adoption! If you want to help us keep celebrating these milestones, visit the link below!

If you want to support our 10-Year Anniversary Fundraiser but are more into sending gifts, the timing has aligned just right as Amazon Prime Days are here! We keep this wishlist updated with what our most critical supply needs are and every item the kitties receive is one less item we have to purchase. Seeing our pantry shelves fill back up is a delight for our onsite team who have to deal with 12 bossy bosses in the adoption lounge! Items are also sent to foster homes for both adult cats and kittens.

If you are able to add one of our items to your cart when you shop, we would be so grateful: www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2B6162S6PO6YJ?ref_=wl_share

We’re celebrating 10 years of rescuing cats in our community…and some seriously silly kitten names! 😹

We’ve had the joy of meeting oodles of cats and kittens who needed a second chance. Some kitties arrive with a name and full history, while others have only a few details about where they were found. When a kitten arrives without a name, our volunteers spring into action…getting creative, and sometimes a little silly, as they choose a name! Naming kittens isn’t just a practical task, it’s the little wink we give to a kitten’s story or a (not-so-subtle) nudge to draw attention to their adorable quirks.

And with over 1,700 adoptions at The Dancing Cat, we’ve seen more than a few hilarious kitten names!

So, in honor of our 10-year anniversary, here are 10 of the wackiest, most legendary kitten names from The Dancing Cat! Which one’s your favorite?

"Fireworks on the 4th of July, how original"-Brennan, probably

We loathe them, the cats despise them and we wish we could put a soundproof bubble over the lounge for the entire week. The cat crew are gonna need some extra churus tomorrow if you want to be the hero they deserve: www.thedancingcat.org/reservations

Our 10-year anniversary has inspired us to catwalk down memory lane and reflect on what has changed, what is new and what has continued to keep us grounded in our original mission. Some of the changes are aesthetic ones, including the sign that you might just miss if you don't look up as you cruise down Julian Street! Do you remember our original logo?

There are seemingly infinite ways for a cat to end up at the shelter or in need of rescue, that is the difficult reality in increasingly challenging times. For Azadi, a stunning panther with eyes like a perfectly pale shade of jade, he was spotted alone inside a car and taken to the shelter. Shelters place holds on cats that are brought in which allows animals to be claimed if there is someone looking for them but nobody claimed him. We can't know why or how he got into that car, just that he needed a hero after 2 months in the shelter so our team stepped up to heed that call. The handsome, charismatic and social cat that emerged from the cat carrier commanded attention immediately: his name, "Azadi," means "freedom" in Persian, and perfectly captured not only his open nature but symbolized that he was no longer trapped. At the lounge, there were no spring toys left unhunted, no wands he couldn't conquer, and treat puzzles were kitten's play to this mastermind.

Varsha and Srikanth were looking for a loving cuddly cat to join their little family. As two adults working full time they wanted a cat that could handle being independent but would also enjoy playful time with them. A few cats fit this description and they were thoughtful in making a few visits to the lounge to really observe and learn more about each. We were not at all surprised to receive an email that said "We are more than sure that Azadi seems to be the perfect fit for us. He played with us and also recognized us from our last visit. We can't wait to welcome him to our home!" Now named Whiskey, a name that captures his bold and spicy sides, this kitty is busy watching birds, harassing his parents for snacks, and waiting for someone to get off the couch to steal their spot! He spends his days playing nonstop, inspecting all new arrivals to the house and being doted on daily. We knew when we rescued him that the sky was the limit for this brilliant boy, and with loving parents like his there may be no limits at all for his happiness. Azadi/Whiskey is adoption #1,705, and we'll toast to that! If you love these amazing adoption outcomes please consider donating below so that we can continue saving cats like Azadi who just need one chance to take on the world!

13-year-old Precious had been surrendered twice: once by a loving owner who had fallen ill and could no longer care for her, and once by an owner who could not treat Precious’s medical condition. When Precious came back to us after her previous owner, we found that Precious had suffered from stomatitis, an auto-immune disorder that results in painful, inflamed gums. Because of this condition, all of Precious’s teeth had been removed. Cats can often live happy lives after this common treatment for stomatitis, but Precious was still suffering from inflammation of her gums and severe pain. She was stressed, upset, and no longer the sweet, affectionate cat that we knew before. We met with several veterinarians and specialists, but there seemed to be no simple solution for Precious’s pain.

Just when we thought there were no more options, a new opportunity presented itself: an experimental treatment for Precious’s pain. Precious received a series of stem-cell infusions through Aggie Animal Dental Care in Mill Valley and responded extremely well to the treatment! Now pain-free and loving life once again, Precious spent the next three years in the excellent care of two truly devoted foster volunteers, Eesha and Tanuj. Given her health history and age, she was perhaps being overlooked by potential adopters and we hoped someone very special would give her the retired dream life she deserved after all she had been through. But really, who would love her and care for her half as well as her foster parents had so faithfully? It turns out, there was nobody in the universe better qualified to be her forever family than the one she had come to know. It is with no exaggeration when we say that tears were shed by many at the joyous news that Precious had been home all the while and that the only big life change she faced was becoming a big cat sister to a little human baby. Her beloved Mama shared that while Precious has had some "older child syndrome" moments, she has remained gentle and continues to bring so much love into their lives.

Precious experienced many challenges, hurts and harrowing hurdles on her path to the sweet life she deserved, the life all kitties deserve. She is one of our legendary long term queens that we at The Dancing Cat all have a great reverence and love for: Precious is exactly why we do what we do. We are filled with celebratory delight to announce, for the final time, that Precious has been adopted and is forevermore adoption #1,704!
