Today’s Giving Seniors Hope Pupdate is featuring MacKenzie! This loving boy came to Thulani with ulcerated canals and nasty infections in both ears. Severely infected ears can be difficult and costly to treat, often requiring multiple trips to the vet. MacKenzie’s medical costs so far have been over $3500 including exams, diagnostics, medication, and three rounds of sedated ear cleaning and treatment. This is the type of care your donations go directly towards, and for anyone who may be interested in making this cutie part of their family, Thulani will continue to cover medical costs for MacKenzie’s ear care until he’s all healed.

How sweet is Meeko?! This petite 8 year old has so much love to give, and would do best in a home where her people are home for much of the day, or are willing to take her with them on adventures outside the house. We are sad to share that Chopper went to the Rainbow Bridge in September. His family shared this heartfelt tribute to him:
“Chopper was with us for two years and four months - a fleeting period in the long lives that humans enjoy, and a long time in the life of a German Shepherd dog. He was our third one, the two previous GSDs were part of our family from their puppy times.
Within two weeks of his arrival in April 2022, his symptoms of colitis were reversed. He started to eat and revel in the warmth of a secure family home. He enjoyed walks in the neighborhood, getting to know our neighbors. Romping around the backyard, he established the hierarchy with all the birds and other creatures as to who they should pay respect to. They would all quietly disperse when he was around and then, he would engage in conversations with Toby, a labradooddle in our neighbor’s home at the back. When family members and friends visited, he would welcome everyone with gusto and at the first sign of their departure, he would protest that they should not leave.
In short, he won the hearts of literally every person in our circle. Unless the heart and soul are so full of love and innocence, this kind of a win over is inconceivable.
He was my shadow, following my every move with his soulful eyes to ensure my safety.”
We are grateful to Chopper’s family for providing him with a loving home for his golden years. Fly high Chopper! 🐾🤍🕊️

Happy One Year Adoptaversary to Sasha (fka Sweet Pea)!! She recently celebrated this milestone in November, and we are so happy to see this sweet girl thriving with her furever family. Sasha is the perfect example of “Giving Seniors Hope” at work, each donation dollar goes towards covering Thulani expenses, whether it be shelter fees, vet visits, or yummy treats for our amazing Thulani pups!

Just look at that thick, luxurious tail on Odin! His foster says when he fluffs it up, he looks like a fox! Odin is the perfect pup to have around as the weather gets colder. This adorable guy will snuggle up to you and keep you warm all winter. He also loves snuggling up to his canine siblings and would love to find a forever home with at least one other dog.

Thulani’s Giving Seniors Hope fundraiser campaign kicks off TOMORROW on Giving Tuesday! Jennie, pictured above, is loving life as a Thulani dog and we need your help to save more dogs like her! This year, we have a $30,000 donation match, which means for any dollar amount you give, it will automatically be DOUBLED until we reach our final fundraising goal of $60,000! We want to get off to a strong start with Giving Tuesday tomorrow, so please help us spread the word and donate if you’re able to.

When is the fundraiser?
Officially, Giving Seniors Hope runs from December 3 to December 31, 2024, but we are getting an early start and are accepting donations (which will be matched) as of now!

We are very sad to share that Thulani alum Bolt has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Bolt’s dad shared this very heartfelt tribute to him:

“Several weeks ago, my beloved dog Bolt passed away peacefully at home. What a wonderful animal he was – gentle in spirit and kind in nature. One of the things I will remember most vividly about him was the thump, thump of his tail whenever someone he knew entered the house or I called his name. About the only things which I can think of that he disliked were, respectively, the handheld vacuum, the canister vacuum, and the floor vacuum, all of which he would bark vigorously at from the moment he saw them.
Before adopting him, I bought Bolt several different kinds of treats because in my experience German Shepherds can be very picky eaters. He liked some of these, but what he was particularly fond of were vegetables. And I only found that out by accident when one of them slipped off the kitchen counter. Celery and carrots were his favorites. I would skin these and then he would chomp away as if I had just handed him a yummy super-sized pill pocket.
Bolt had a very strong will to pair with his happy nature. Once while I was watching him in the grass, he saw a rabbit in the yard and commenced in pursuit as fast as his paws could carry him. I couldn’t believe my eyes because for about the first ten steps or so he looked like he was 2 years old. Then when he tried turning to match the rabbit’s trajectory, his rear legs gave out, and it disappeared safely into the branches while he tumbled to the ground. As I started towards him to confirm whether he was ok, he picked himself up as if to say “I did my best,” and then proceeded as if nothing had happened to sniff the grass. Tail wagging, of course.
When I called my vet to schedule a first appointment for Bolt, they misheard me over the phone, thinking he was a 11 week old puppy rather than a 11 year old senior. That error makes perfect sense. After all, most people would never consider adopting a dog his age. But Bolt is the second Thulani dog whom I’ve owned and I can say from experience that they have so much to offer and so much to give to a person who will provide an “old-timer” with a forever home. Maybe that person can be you.”

We are so grateful to have such loving people who make Thulani dogs part of their families. Fly high Bolt!

The Thulani Team is wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving! We are so grateful for the community that has enabled us to save so many Thulani dogs this year! We are immensely thankful for everyone who played a part in providing much needed love and care for the dogs, including our fosters, adopters, volunteers, donors, and supporters. These folks are literally life-savers.

We are also thankful for the community support that allowed us to continue to provide medical care for fostered and adopted Thulani dogs. Your support makes their care and comfort possible.

Buddy’s Adventure Part 2! You may remember us posting about Buddy’s last road trip with his forever family. Well, this lucky Thulani alum got to close out summer with his humans by visiting Napa and Cache Creek Canyon parks! We are so happy to see Buddy continuing to love camper trips after hitting his 2-year anniversary with his family.

Mallory will be so thankful when she finds her forever home! This seven year old is energetic and would do well in a home where she’ll be active daily -- she would love to join a family that enjoys regular hikes! In addition to her athleticism, Mallory is affectionate and eager to please her humans. We aren’t sure how she’d do with cats but she tends to get along well with other pups!

Remembering Sammy T ❤️

We are sad to share that Sammy T went to the Rainbow Bridge on July 5. His family said: “Sammy T was a wonderful, loving doggie. He came to us when we had Riley T and they were great friends. Sammy loved walks, eating, and would put himself to bed when he was ready. He would come in and cry for us to get up in the morning. After moving to Apple Valley he loved to run around in the snow and would walk the perimeter of his big backyard every day. He would try to chase cats with our Schnauzer Gracie, who became his walking partner. Sammy was so big and Gracie so little. We loved Sammy T. so much.
