JUST IMAGINE! In your mind you see a sleek 1+ year young Weimaraner who's lived in a shelter kennel for weeks! He was found as a stray.....someone possibly dumping him for behavior. Nobody wanted him. Even through a free adoption event at the shelter he was passed up. In his kennel notes it says that he is a full time barker and only calms down if staff come into his kennel. He is needy, not at all potty trained, he is rowdy, he jumps, he is more than horrible on a leash, he is mouthy, he chews EVERYTHING, he is deaf to commands (better known as selective hearing) but he is YOUNG and oh SO BEAUTIFUL with wide eyes full of hope, wonder and life. He is eager to learn when he decides to listen. He is healthy and he is a very happy out of control boy.
We take him in thinking how could he be this bad? He gets along with all of his foster siblings but he soon earned the name "devil dog". ๐๐ฟ๐ Not because of any type of aggression but because his mind is way ahead of his body and he can't control his actions. So what do we do? Do we hold on to him and deem him unadoptable? Adopt him to someone who is willing to do his training? Where do we find such a person? So we do what we know is right....what will give him a super long loving life in a good home. We put him in a BOARD AND TRAIN for three weeks. If any of you have put your dogs in a training program you know this doesn't come cheap. We won't even attempt to disclose the cost. But it is in our core values to do what we can for the dogs we take in.
Some are so super easily placed that it may make you wonder why we charge our fees. THIS is why. We get dogs like this and then there are the medical needs dogs. Not all are so easily adoptable. We pour lots of money in dogs that the adoption fees don't ever begin to cover.
So we introduce you to Hamilton. Not because we are seeking any types of donation but because we want everyone to know there is hope for most every dog. He has been in training now for five days so far. His trainer loves his personality and playfulness that just needs some leadership, guidance, control and most of all lots of exercise. He is starving for direction and someone to care enough to commit to following through with him. We think we picked an awesome trainer. One who puts him through things he will be doing on a daily basis. Walking on lead, waiting while humans enter areas first, going on outings to dog friendly places, playing ball and learning he has to release in order to continue playing. Running next to that scary bicycle. Hiking in the hills and learning a good recall. Lots of socialization and dog exposure. He is doing great so far at all of these things. His barking has almost totally gone away....!!!!
It may seem that it's abnormally quiet at SCWR at times. Which, thankfully it is for brief moments. But behind the scenes there is always something going on. We just wanted to put a kudos out for Hamilton because we know he will come around and be the best boy ever!!!๐คฉ๐พ๐พ๐ฅฐ
