FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED!

THIS IS ZEEK!!! He's a beautiful youngish 1-2 year old (best estimate by shelter as a stray). He is currently fostered in San Marcos in Northern San Diego area. His foster can only hold him through this Sunday the 13th due to a surgery of her own that she is having. We are looking for a new place for Zeek to hang his hat....or better yet a forever home! Zeek is great with other dogs and doing great in his foster with three other Weims. See his bio below. Anyone want a house guest until we can find him a place to call home? Here is his link and some more photos. Get in touch if you'd like to help! https://post.rescueme.org/25-06-30-00115

UPDATE!!!! Sasha was adopted and now lives on a farm!!! She is already doted on and very comfy inside her very own home with a Husky, horses, goats and lots of farm animals to play with. Not one more day sleeping outside! THANK YOU to those of you who welcome Seniors!

WE HAVE A SENIOR!!! This graceful old gal named Sasha just came in from the Shelter. Owners said they were moving and could not take her with them. She was turned in as a 12 year old spayed female but the Vet on staff at Shelter feels she's more like 9 or 10. Either way she seems pretty healthy for her age. She has a couple hot spots we are beginning to treat. She has a docked tail and family got from a breeder at 8 weeks old. She is getting along with her female weim foster sister and grew up with lots of kids. We are looking for someone who would really love and cherish a nice senior girl. She rides well in a car and gets a little excited on walks. She will pull slightly then calms down. Her previous owner says her goal in life is to be able to sit with family and watch TV at night. (YA THINK?!) She slept her entire life outside in the backyard! Owner says she was not allowed in the house because his wife is not a dog person?!?!?!?! HUH? We'll be spending some time to get to know her but if you are interested she is fostered in the Santa Clarita area. Hit us up!!

JUST IMAGINE! In your mind you see a sleek 1+ year young Weimaraner who's lived in a shelter kennel for weeks! He was found as a stray.....someone possibly dumping him for behavior. Nobody wanted him. Even through a free adoption event at the shelter he was passed up. In his kennel notes it says that he is a full time barker and only calms down if staff come into his kennel. He is needy, not at all potty trained, he is rowdy, he jumps, he is more than horrible on a leash, he is mouthy, he chews EVERYTHING, he is deaf to commands (better known as selective hearing) but he is YOUNG and oh SO BEAUTIFUL with wide eyes full of hope, wonder and life. He is eager to learn when he decides to listen. He is healthy and he is a very happy out of control boy.

We take him in thinking how could he be this bad? He gets along with all of his foster siblings but he soon earned the name "devil dog". ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ‘ฟ๐Ÿ˜ˆ Not because of any type of aggression but because his mind is way ahead of his body and he can't control his actions. So what do we do? Do we hold on to him and deem him unadoptable? Adopt him to someone who is willing to do his training? Where do we find such a person? So we do what we know is right....what will give him a super long loving life in a good home. We put him in a BOARD AND TRAIN for three weeks. If any of you have put your dogs in a training program you know this doesn't come cheap. We won't even attempt to disclose the cost. But it is in our core values to do what we can for the dogs we take in.

Some are so super easily placed that it may make you wonder why we charge our fees. THIS is why. We get dogs like this and then there are the medical needs dogs. Not all are so easily adoptable. We pour lots of money in dogs that the adoption fees don't ever begin to cover.

So we introduce you to Hamilton. Not because we are seeking any types of donation but because we want everyone to know there is hope for most every dog. He has been in training now for five days so far. His trainer loves his personality and playfulness that just needs some leadership, guidance, control and most of all lots of exercise. He is starving for direction and someone to care enough to commit to following through with him. We think we picked an awesome trainer. One who puts him through things he will be doing on a daily basis. Walking on lead, waiting while humans enter areas first, going on outings to dog friendly places, playing ball and learning he has to release in order to continue playing. Running next to that scary bicycle. Hiking in the hills and learning a good recall. Lots of socialization and dog exposure. He is doing great so far at all of these things. His barking has almost totally gone away....!!!!

It may seem that it's abnormally quiet at SCWR at times. Which, thankfully it is for brief moments. But behind the scenes there is always something going on. We just wanted to put a kudos out for Hamilton because we know he will come around and be the best boy ever!!!๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅฐ

ADOPTED !!!!!! ๐ŸŽ‰

Three year old Utah is now available! This lover boy is another who lost his home due to a rental situation not allowing dogs. He was brought up with other dogs, lots of kids and even CATS!!!! Utah is the typical clingy boy who can use a little work at knowing he is safe. He is neutered with a natural tail and he is on the larger side. His foster is working on crate training and he is reliably housetrained. It seems he may have been left alone quite a bit and he doesn't like it much. He was left out in the backyard when the family left for school and work so he lost his trust in not being abandoned.

His favorite family might have someone who works from home or retired to be with him most of the time. He LOVES company! He will wrap himself around you and not let you out of his sight. He is loving and gentle. His current foster says he is good on a leash, is a total sweetheart and eats like a horse!

Utah was owner surrendered and has "known" purebred Weimaraner parents. Their photo is below. He has been with one family his whole life and is now not sure what's in store for him.

Let's find this boy a permanent home so he can finally relax and know his person will no longer leave him! He is fostered in the Palm Springs area and available now! Get that application in at www.socalweimrescue.org/pages/adopt

Congrats to Patricia Fluornoy who is the winner of our $50 gift card for their support of SoCal Weim Rescue in the first annual Walk For Weims!

It's been almost a month since we walked for Weims and we couldn't have been happier with the support you showed us in the first year of the event. We raised over $3,000 to support our cause, made friends with our partners in Weimaraner rescue across the country, and collectively enjoyed taking our Weims out for a walk to celebrate National Weimaraner Day!

โœ๏ธ Mark your calendars for next year: April 12, 2026

SO YOU WANT TO REHOME YOUR WEIMARANER?????

Please take your time. Do not act on a whim and contact a Rescue without having thought it through. Know that once you have contacted us the work begins. We have a lot of steps that we go through to ensure your pet has the best care. To name a few: Obtain your questionnaire and input into our database along with your Vet records, photos, history and fine details about your dog that helps us place him/her in the best home. Reach out to transporters and schedule someone to help us get your dog no matter where you are in SoCal. Reach out to potential fosters and also match them up to your dog so the transition is easy for your pet. Set up spay or neuter appointment if needed. Also arrange transport to the appointment. Arrange vetting..along with even more transport. Have potential fosters fill out foster forms and also input their information and do a check on them. Once a foster is found we have to get your dog to them and have foster agreements signed. This list is the very short version. All of this is time consuming and takes loads of texts, messages and phone calls.

So now, it is all set up. Then we get the brief text (not even a phone call)"Sorry, we changed our mind!" Nothing more. No explanation or apology, The very sad part about this is that now we worry. Because of all the not so nice things you shared about your dog ....just a few:
"we can't have the hair, we cook from home for a business"
"no time, we have a newborn coming in a few months "
"he sleeps outside unless it's raining, then he is allowed in the laundry room"
"my job hours have changed so she spends too much time alone'
"she tears things up..even her crate pad after being crated 8 hours"
"we're tired of having to walk him"
"he's getting old and cranky and snaps at the new puppy'
"we just want to do what is best for him" (translate to we have grown tired of him)

Now we have to move on, knowing your dog is going to continue to be only in the background...still forgotten.....still shedding hair........still banned to the backyard or laundry room with very little human contact. Not to mention the time we spent trying to help you. So PLEASE..be sure. Be VERY sure before reaching out. Know that we have actual dogs in shelters suffering that really don't have a home that need us.

We are in a crisis. If you can keep your dog....and have him as part of your family.....please do the very best you can to keep him for life. Not just Weims....ANY DOG! These are living breathing beings that are not trash and they depend on you. Can we help you?? YES, absolutely would love to if you trust the process and are sure this is the route you want to take. We are here for you...just please please don't put us through our efforts and then ghost us. If you have to back out, the nice thing is to call with an explanation and maybe even give a small donation for our time.

Signed,
SCWR Volunteer (we are all unpaid....volunteers!)
