Dearest Riders,

Please let me remind you of something very important. Horse showing, riding and training are insanely difficult. If you have a crappy ride, a less than stellar show ring result (or if you made your trainer want to pull their hair out today), it just means there's more to learn. The people who had good rides today are not exempt from disappointing rides tomorrow. They also have bad days and, if they're very experienced riders, they've had a whole bunch of bad days.

There will always be someone out there on a more talented horse, someone with a bigger bank account, someone who never struggled to learn to sit the trot...life isn't fair. You probably can't win the lottery or grow 5 more inches of leg. You can, however, wake up every morning and be thankful that you're able to ride horses. Work hard at becoming the best rider you can be with the body and the bank account that you have right now. Work at being the rider your horse wants up there on his back. Your horse's opinion of your riding is more valuable than any judge's opinion could ever be.

Well the first horse show of 2023 is in the books! To say I’m proud of the crew that went goes without saying. To see their hard work paying off makes me so happy! We loved the new winter Seaside Shows and can’t wait to go back for weeks 4 and 5!

I don’t know who needs to hear this but your ability to create the reality that you want is directly determined by your willingness to experience its opposite.

-Saving money will have you feeling broke while it’s actually making you rich.

-Setting boundaries will have you feeling alone while you’re creating new healthy relationships in your life.

-Digging up your trauma will have you feeling broken while it’s actually healing you.

-Working out has you feeling weak while it’s really making you strong.

-Learning something new makes you feel dumb while it’s making you more intelligent.

Your ability to attain the thing that you want is directly correlated with how willing you are to experience its opposite. You have to be ok with being uncomfortable to truly achieve success!

PRESS RELEASE from Friends of Del Mar Horsepark

(Del Mar, CA) Friends of Del Mar Horsepark is excited to announce that Struzzieri Ventures Inc. that operates HITS Horse Shows facilities nationwide will lease Horsepark. We expect Horsepark to reopen in 2023.

On June 6, 2022, the 22nd DAA—owner of the Del Mar Fairgrounds and Horsepark--sent a “Notice of Intent to Award” the Horsepark lease to Mr. Struzzieri, CEO of Struzzieri Ventures, Inc., after the higher scoring proposer withdrew his proposal.

As Tom Struzzieri puts it: “In my over 40-year career, I have coordinated horse shows up and down the State of California. From Santa Rosa to Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara to Indio and Thermal and indeed over 30 years ago in Del Mar.

The Horse Park in Del Mar remains my favorite location in California. For horsemen to have access to such a jewel in such a desirable location is unheard of anywhere in the US, let alone in California.

HITS feels doubly blessed to not only have a relatively blank canvas to enhance the property but also to have the opportunity to produce many hunter-jumper and dressage events right here in Del Mar. I look forward to starting the project of renovating one of the most iconic horse facilities in the country, and then producing some of California’s most outstanding events!”

According to the HITS press release dated June 9, 2022, “HITS will address the environmental concerns that caused the original closure of the Del Mar Horsepark in 2022. HITS will also improve the footing in the rings, adjust the facility layout to be more exhibitor friendly, and upgrade the quality of the stabling.

HITS looks forward to returning to the West Coast for the 2023 show season and welcoming exhibitors back to the storied Del Mar Horsepark, allowing the West Coast to continue its long tradition of top equestrian competitions at the popular venue.”

I wanted to share this because I talk a lot about having your horse “in front of your leg”. “Having your horse take you” and this is a beautiful example. Yes we don’t want our hunters and equitation horses to have this much gallop, but look at how many options we have when they carry us! We want that!
