Just in case you forgot how cool Ranger is 😉 We are home from our trip to Yosemite and I’m happy to get back to working with the horses! It’s currently raining so I’m not able to ride, but I’ve been working with Aspen on her liberty training. The second clip in this reel was from much earlier this year (first is from a couple years ago), before Ranger lost a bunch of muscle through rehab for his sidebone. I am excited to get him back working once everything is dry, and to get him spinning like that again! #ranger #openshow #horsephotograpy #trailride #horsetraining #liberty #tricktraining #bareback #bridleless #reining #cowhorse #reiningonsliders #wildhorsepc #magicofwild #outwest #bestofthewest #americanwest #onaquihorses #raw_horses #wildmustang #americanmustangs #mustangsofinstagram#wildhorse #onaqui #blmmustang
Hopped back on baby horse after she’d had a while off and she was awesome!!
I’ve worked Aspen maybe three times since the show, and I hadn’t even messed with her for over a couple weeks before riding her yesterday! I barely warmed her up, just lunged her for a minute to make sure she wasn’t going to be cold backed with the saddle. She didn’t pull any silly baby business throughout the whole ride or on the ground, and she behaved very well! She has been getting really soft in the face with work, and has been getting fun to ride. She’s also been doing great with picking up her shoulder when I ask, which used to be hard for her. And unfortunately my phone died so we could only get videos of the beginning of the ride, she ended even better than this! I’m very happy with and proud of how Miss Bangs is doing 😊
After about a week off of work, I hopped on the baby horse and drug a branch off of her!
This was the first time she had anything drug behind her while I was riding her, and it was her first time having a branch drug behind her whether I was on the ground or not. She handled it like a pro and we walked, trotted, loped, stopped, and backed up with it. I also ride her completely one handed for the first time and she was perfect. It’s crazy where a good foundation and a good brain can get you! She will make a really nice little horse :)
Aspen has been doing big girl things!
Trail riding, riding up by the house, and just lots of messing around with her has made her such a gentle horse. Lots of pushing her out of her comfort zone and getting her more confident with scary things under saddle. We had our first bareback and bridleless ride! We walked and worked on steering, stopping, backing up, and we layed down at the end so I could get off. So proud of her!
Aspen has found a new and effective way to avoid walking over the sand pile 🙄😂
This filly has got the best sense of humor, and I love it. After a week off and very inconsistent work before that, I did some stuff with this girly! We unfortunately don’t have good footing in the roundpen at home (hence the pile of sand) so most of everything we did was outside of the roundpen. For those of you who don’t know her, she has always had bad separation anxiety from other horses and she also tends to get hot in new places (baby brain things). This means doing almost anything outside of the roundpen and away from my other horse who likes to whinny for her has always been hard. But today she was amazing! We did some groundwork on a field above the roundpen, led and rode her on a trail she had been one once or twice, and fell asleep on the sand in the roundpen. We even had some deer jump out of the bushes and run in front of us on the trail, but she didn’t care much about that 🤣🤣. She was super chill and fun, I just love her!

Ranger has been such an easy and fun ride the past couple weeks ☺️
For those who don’t know, Ranger has sidebone and we have put him in a sort of rehab program that gets him fit without making him sore. We just got back to loping and doing some more real riding and its made him comfortable and happy!
Not only is he sound, he’s going around so nicely! Hopefully this summer or the next we will have sliders on him. I also rode him around bridleless in one of the areas and he was amazing, minus his want to attack the barrels 🙄. I’m so happy with him right now! Love this guy ❤️
And thank you @reining.whizky for the reining saddle! It fits perfectly and we love it.
I am sooo happy with how this little stud is doing!!
Mojave has turned into my dog, I just adore his personality and his chill attitude. I have been touching him with the leadrope and my hands from his face to the top of his butt, brushing him, rubbing down to his front feet with the whip, leading him with the rope dragging next to him, lunging him, and throwing the rope of the whip over his back. He is just so easy and fun, we are now trying to get him into the program here at @sweetbeauhorses as a project for me 😉. I just love him!!
How smooth is your horses trot? It looks like Stetson’s will be a fun one to ride!
Here is Stetson, one of the mustangs at @sweetbeauhorses I have been working with. We’ve been working on lots of desensitizing, especially to the saddle pad. We did lots or throwing it on and off of him, on his neck, back and butt. And then lunging him with it on him as well! He is a very smart and fun boy to work with 😊
