🌱 Fall on the Farm with Pacific Beach Students! 🌱

Our hardworking high school students have been busy preparing the garden for cooler temps, planting radishes, broccoli, Swiss chard, and more of our favorite fall crops. After all that effort, they celebrated by creating gorgeous flower bouquets! 💐

Since 2013, City Farm SLO has partnered with San Luis Coastal Unified School District to offer Therapeutic Horticulture programs! These farm-based lessons support middle schoolers, high schoolers, and young adults with disabilities, fostering better mental and physical health. 🌟

We're thrilled to share that for the 24-25 school year, we’ll be hosting **two classes per week for Farm Field Trips** here at City Farm SLO! 🌟 These young learners are rolling up their sleeves, exploring the farm, and connecting with the land. We are inspiring the next generation of farmers, environmentalists, and informed consumers! 💚

We had another great volunteer day last Saturday, this time with Must!’s Youth Volunteer Board!

Our volunteers worked alongside our Fellows to get a lot of great work done.

🥗 **PBHS Harvest Day Success!** 🌿
We wrapped up our first quarter with PBHS by harvesting fresh lettuce, bell peppers, sweet Italian peppers, and cilantro. The students made a beautiful, refreshing salad—topped with calendula petals for a splash of color! 🌸 They did an amazing job harvesting, washing, and preparing, and most of them tried the salad. The best part? Enjoying their delicious creation on a hot day! 😋💚

It’s been amazing watching students grow—literally and figuratively! 🌱 Some who were shy at first are now getting more involved each week. We’re seeing their confidence blossom as they build skills, connect with the farm, and step out of their comfort zones. So proud of their progress! 💪💚

🌱 **First Field Trip of the School Year!** 🌿
Our first group of the season had a blast exploring the farm! This brave young farmer made a new friend at the worm farm 🪱. Students learned about pollinators, tasted fresh veggies, and of course, got to pet Tucker the sheep 🐑. What a fun start to the school year! 💚

🌿 Green Chef III: Fall 2024 🍂
Join us for an exciting sustainable cooking competition at City Farm SLO on Saturday, Nov 23 from 3-6 pm! 10 chefs will be using a secret super-sustainable (SSS) ingredient to create dishes judged on taste, creativity, and sustainability! 🌍🍽️

Guests: Sample 10 unique dishes for $30-$50 (sliding scale). Enjoy a day of fall harvest celebration, traditional knowledge, and innovation in our food systems.

What a fun year it’s been at City Farm SLO 🐑🌾🌸

At City Farm SLO we love our tiny spotted heroes - ladybugs! 🐞 these little wonders are natural pest controllers feasting on aphids, mites, mealybugs, and other soft bodied insects that threaten our crops. Embracing ladybugs is our substitute for chemical pesticides, keeping our food clean and healthy. Natures balance is beautiful and we’re proud to nurture it every day. 🌾🌸

Look at all of our summer season babies! Tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs and flowers 🌱 We start these little guys on heating mats and under lights in early January. Once they’re large enough, we up-pot them to 3” pots and move them to our hoop house till they are ready to plant in the ground. These little starts are going to produce a LOT of good food! #seedstarts #regenerativeagriculture #urbanfarming

City Farm SLO is the first urban farm, spanning 19 acres in the heart of the City of San Luis Obispo on the Calle Joaquin Ag Reserve. City Farm SLO represents a unique collaboration among municipal government, a non-profit organization, business enterprises, educational institutions, and public and private funding agencies committed to the revival of community engagement in sustainable agriculture.

Our mission is to manage San Luis Obispo’s 19-acre Calle Joaquin Ag Reserve to achieve the goals specified in the City’s Master Plan: - Enable sustainable crop production by small farmers - Provide area youth with on-site educational programs - Engage the community in the life of an urban farm #CityFarmSLO
