We have now entered foxtail season here in San Diego County. Please be careful when walking your dogs and try to avoid areas heavy in foxtails. Foxtails may be small but can cause significant problems when it comes to our furry friends. Our furry friends can get foxtails in places such as their paws, nose, eyes, ears, and skin. If we are not careful, they can cause abscesses, ear infections, eye discharge and discomfort.

In order to avoid foxtail issues:
• Keep pets out of overgrown and grassy areas
• After walks check over pets entire body for foxtails
• If you notice foxtails, you may attempt to pull them off however if you have any
trouble please seek the help of a veterinarian
• Pull foxtails out of your yard
• Keep long coated dogs short for the summer so it is easier to see foxtails

Did you know that less than 10% of the pets that are unchipped will return home each year?

A microchip is a secure, reliable, permanent identification for your pet and the process is simple and affordable. Microchipping your pet can help ensure that if your pet goes missing, they can be identified and find their way back to you.

If your pet is chipped, make sure their information is up to date. To help keep pets close to their loved ones, share this post and remind your friends to !

Is your pet scooting or licking their rear? It could be their a**l glands.

A**l glands are located on the rear of dogs and cats. The glands produce an oily, fishy-smelling fluid that helps with scent marking. Sometimes these glands can get impacted or infected.

Soft, consistent stool, as well as allergies, are common causes of irritation. If your pet is scooting, licking excessively, or showing signs of discomfort around their rear end, contact us! We will help to identify the cause and determine the best course of treatment.

With tomorrow being Hairball Awareness Day, we wanted to remind our cat parents about the importance of preventing hairballs.

Accumulated from excessive grooming, hairballs can build in your cat’s digestive system and either get coughed up or in some cases, need surgical removal.
If your cat is excessively vomiting, lethargic, loses their appetite, or has diarrhea or constipation, these may be signs of a blockage and you should contact our team immediately.
