A little bit of a throwback while we try to survive the heat 🥵
We had to divide and conquer back in April! While I was with 3 of our riders out in Tryon, I entrusted .equestrian with two of our riders for their first stab at a Classic A show at Woodside!_.delprado with .sporthorses Kiva did a fantastic job in the 1.0m for the first time bringing home a reserve championship!
had many fantastic rounds in the 2’6” low children’s hunters and the low children’s eq placing reserve champion in one division as well as in CPHA qualifying her for the medal final! Congratulations to both riders for a job well done!

As we travel to the other side of the country for IEA Nationals, I wanted to take a moment to commend and congratulate the members of our IEA team who’s season is complete for the year:
🌟Alicia Del Prado García-Open 2’6” over fences rider for our Zone Qualifying Hunt Seat Team, Senior in High School attending UC Davis this fall
🌟Adhira Knight-Open 2’6” flat rider for our Zone Qualifying Hunt Seat Team, 3rd place DSE Open rider at Dressage Regionals, Open Rider for our Regional Qualifying Dressage team that placed 4th Overall
🌟Julianne Campagna-Intermediate DSE Rider for our Regional Qualifying Team that placed 4th Overall at Regionals, Individual Regional Qualifier for Test and DSE
🌟Hailey Styerwalt-Novice flat and over fences rider for our Zone Qualifying Hunt Seat Team, 4th in Novice DSE at Dressage Regionals
🌟Sophie Andersen-Beginner WTC DSE Regional Qualifier as well as riding in WTC Hunt Seat for a great year
🌟Bella Peraino-Walk Trot Regional Hunt Seat Qualifier and Reserve Zone 10 Walk Trot Hunt Seat Champion
🌟Victoria Warren-Walk Trot Hunt Seat Zone 10 Qualifier placing 2nd

Up next: 3 riders are set to dance in the sandbox at Tryon International Equestrian Center on Sunday, which will complete our season for the year.

Looking back at when we started IEA in 2017, I would’ve never expected to have our team qualify for zones in two disciplines let alone have multiple riders going to nationals 2 years in a row. With this years team roster consisting of students that we’ve brought from first ride to open division, I couldn’t be any more proud of this little team of home grown riders as I am right now. To all of our riders, I love you, and I’m proud of you and how far you’ve come!

With love,
Coach

Great brain, in your pocket personality with a fantastic work ethic! Would excel with a confident young rider/amateur in a simple program. Had a slow start for a solid foundation, then sat on the back burner for a bit in his earlier years. Brave to fences, fantastic mover and ready for a job showing with the right person. Schooling some first level dressage and doing small jump courses, he's been in dressage clinics and is consistently ridden by our IEA hunt seat and dressage riders. Asking five figures starting with a 35 to keep, but open to reasonable offers since owner needs him gone ASAP

It seems fitting to announce this exactly one year after our move to Lone Oak, but starting January of 2024 UTSH will be closing our Los Gatos location. We will still be offering our riding academy lessons in San Martin where the rest of our program is, but this is definitely the end of an era.
Looking back at where we started, with only 2 client horses in January of 2015, next month would’ve marked 9 years. If it wasn’t for the wonderful owner of the facility, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Many of the students that started with us at this barn have since moved onto college and careers, but this place will always bring back memories and have a special place in our hearts. Thank you Gaylene for having faith for us to grow, and watering our seeds as we planted them. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. Here’s to the future, and here’s to 2024

As I was tucking all the horses in tonight, I realized how I couldn’t have made it this far into my career without the amazing clients and horses that have come into my life. This past year has had many changes, and we have some more big changes in the next couple of months which are very exciting. To all of my clients, barn mates, staff and support, I am so thankful for having you be a part of the barn family that is Under the Son! Here’s to another year of more adventures and horses 🦃

Appreciate your trainer.

They spend way more hours at work than you could even imagine. They are here six if not seven days a week every week. They work holidays. They work weekends. And just because their office is outside and they get to be surrounded by beautiful animals the whole time does not mean they aren’t working. The barn to you is your sanctuary. It’s your escape. It’s your place to vent. Your place to relax. Your place to unwind. That is not what the barn is to them. While they have moments of serenity when everything is quiet, this is still their job. they are still on the clock. They still need to be on their game. Always.

Their job is not just riding. They deal with all of you every day. Long before and long after they have come and gone from the barn. During dinners. During drinks with friends. During family time. On days off. They are here for you.

They care. They care more than you could ever know. Each and every horse is a part of their soul. They know their mannerisms. They meticulously watch their weight, their movement, monitor what they eat and how much of it, how much they work, whether they are happy doing their job, and how to make them go in a way that pleases you without jeopardizing them. They stay up late with them if they are sick. They write down every time they batted an eyelash wrong. And they remember what they need when.

They take pride in them going well for you. They listen to every flaw you find with them, even if it is in fact your flaw, and try to help them do their job better. When you are unhappy with how they go, they strive to never let it happen again, even if your expectations are unreasonable. They bend over backwards to make your horse perfect, even if what you’re asking for is a horse without spirit, or personality. They stand up for them when they can, trying their best not to make you upset in the process. They are their life’s work, and they know them inside and out.

They listen to you. Whether you are rational or not. They remain calm when you bring the stress of your day job to the barn and take it all out on your horse and on us. They pick up the pieces when you’ve been unforgiving with your horse, who was simply surprised by your lack of patience after a long day. They are your rock, your shoulder to cry on, and your horses.

When they go home, they still reply to your texts and your emails and your calls. They are never off the clock. They take in stride as best we can your rants of frustration when your horse or your riding isn’t exactly where you want it to be exactly when you want it. They take the blame. For you. For your horse. For everything.

And yet here they are. Still showing up. Still being here for you. For your horse. No matter how you treat them. Regardless of whether you deserve them. They are here.

Senior shoutout to who had her last lesson with us before headed off to University of Washington!
She will be competing on the IHSA team and studying environmental science. McKenna competed with us through 2’ USEF, Opportunity classes at USDF shows and in IEA over crossrails.
Even when she isn’t riding, McKenna would also help out around the barn as a working student. We will miss her dearly, yet we are proud to send her off on bigger adventures.
You are always welcome to come back to visit and ride!

What a rush today was! Julia drew Royal for her first ride at an IEA National event, and had a beautiful round on a fantastic mount. Our own Sadie drew Irish, returned for a work off and was proudly crowned national champion for future novice DSE! Both riders had beautiful trips, and left thank you notes to their fantastic steeds. Both coaches are so thankful to be a part of these young rider’s careers, and wouldn’t ask for anything else from this pair. These two girls have been with us since they started in summer camp, and words cannot express the pride we have for both riders. Congratulations girls, we are thrilled for your IEA season and are very excited to see what is to come 💜💛

Better late than never… right? Last month the team attended our first dressage show (and outing!) of the year! This show was a first dressage outing for Arianna & High Note, Sadie & Jakarta, snd McKenna and Melo! All three pairs brought home some very promising scores in their Training Level rides. Juli & Tinkerbell A Donna showed off all the hard work they put in after last show season with highly improved scores, and Alex flew home from college to catch ride and earn her qualifying scores for CDS JR/YR Championships on Danielle’s Unika. Julia debuted her First Level ride on Bay Breeze, earning some very promising scores and excellent feedback for their first pass at this new level. Stay tuned as the team takes on their second show of the year this weekend!
