Another day. Life goes on. Got to clean up the cattery then we’ll go have lunch with the San-Toi ladies. Sure missing our boy.

Today we said goodbye to our oldest cat. Grand Premier Azorez Oligarch of UltraVires. I’ve had him eight years and he was the sweetest, wisest little guy. We’re crushed.

I’ve known him longer than Mrs UltraVires; who didn’t like cats or think she could until Ollie decided he approved of her. So many cats from his breeder, now out of the fancy, get this intractable wasting and I’ve never been able to reverse it. We did multiple thousands of dollars in lab work, multiple vets and vet visits. Prebiotics, probiotics, steroids, anti-diarrheals, anti-parasitics, PCR fecals… nothing wrong except his gut stopped absorbing nutrients. I did vitamins orally and sub-cutaneous, a dozen different foods, high fat, high protein, grain-free… I think we kept him going months longer than any other cat with this wasting but today his body had enough. We’ve been holding him for hours at a time the last week. I’d have had him put to sleep but as long as he was vigorously eating I thought he should be here with his friends. The last couple days he’d been wobbly but still aggressively eating. I’d been getting up every few hours to monitor him and he was alert and snuggling with Persey at 4AM. At 7 though he’d stopped moving and was going into agonal breathing. We kept him warm and held him and talked to him until he left us. I’ll put his ashes with the other honored pets from my life. Star, Gumby, Hobbes… there is just no way to go on but to endure. I’m glad he was the very last of that line in my Cattery (Dresden has a different mother). We’ll sure miss him.
