I just uploaded some videos regarding random thoughts and ideas on teaching the back up. I didn’t go into every last detail of any particular method, just an overview. So if you’d like more info or have a specific issue you’d like to talk about here, let me know! 😊. And please excuse me and my dogs in these videos - we’ve all been on a training hiatus for nearly a year now and definitely have some rust to knock off! I even called Mycroft Frankie at one point! 🤪

I presented four different ways here to teach back up - for anyone competing in Level
2 flash, this is a required skill and Level 3 regular and flash also have back up exercises. Happy training!

Are there specific exercises from L2 that you are having problems training or don't understand how they are supposed to be performed? If so, drop a note with the exercise number and I'll get a video posted to help you out!

As promised, here are a few photos of the Kino Sports Complex. We haven’t been given our final location on site, but all fields, as well as the stadium, are surrounded by fencing. Plenty of parking, well-maintained grounds, but not alot of shade on the fields. This looks like a great place to spend some time playing WCRL rally in November!

Trying to decide which classes to enter in the upcoming rally trials? For those who earned their L1 titles at our Spring trial, you can:

1) enter L2 in regular and/or flash and work on that title - you would enter the A class until you earn your title;

2) enter L1 in regular and/or flash and work on your L1 championship (10 Qs in L1B) and accumulate L1B points for your ARCH championship (see below) - because you have already completed the title, you would enter the B class;

3) enter both L1B and L2A to work on your L2 title, your L1 championship, and your combined level ARCH championship (100 points total from the B classes in L1 and L2, with at least 30 points from each level and 5 double Qs with scores of 190 or higher in both classes). Points are earned based on the score earned - see p. 55 of the regulations for a breakdown of the point scale. You can download the regulations from www.rallydogs.com.

For flash titles, the only difference is there is no A or B designation for flash levels.

WCRL rally allows you to count one run toward multiple titles, so it's relatively easy and affordable to achieve the ARCHMX. The difficult part is deciding how you want to tackle the challenge - one title or multi-titles at a time!

Be sure to drop a note if you have questions about how runs count toward titles or which classes to enter in the upcoming trials.

Hope all of you here in the Valley of the Sun weathered the monsoon storms last night well - the rain was very much welcome, although getting 1.25" in an hour at our end of the Valley made it a wee bit problematic to get Djinni (AKA She Who Does Not Like To Get Her Feet Wet) outside this morning for her morning constitutional! 🤪 Tomorrow I am headed off to do some photography work for the SW Audobon Birding Festival in Tucson. I will swing by the show site for the November trials and snag some photos so everyone can see what the area looks like. I will get those posted here by the weekend!

08/03/2024

The November premium is now up on the WCRL website! Entries open October 1 and close October 30 or when entry limits are reached. We set the judge assignments so those who earn two legs on a new title at our October trials can finish in Tucson, and those who only come to Tucson can earn a title in both regular and flash at those trials! More posts to come to explain how you can work on multiple titles with a single run, the fun bling we are ordering for anyone finishing a title in Tucson, and more. You can get alot of good training done inside between now and October - hope to see you all in the fall!

October 13 premium is now available at rallydogs.com on the events page

Frankie has looked at the calendar and decided that Sunday 13 October 2024 is the best date for us to do a pre-Tucson set of trials. Local AKC obedience/rally trials and my AKC judging trial leaves this weekend the only one open, although it will be against the Sunday UKC conformation shows. We will hold it at Paradise Valley Park again.

We will offer two trials this time - L1 & L2 in both regular and flash. This will give those who go to Tucson the chance to finish their titles at the CynoSport event! The application will be going in this week and once approved, more details will follow.

As far as the CynoSport event, we are still waiting for Ken (the owner of USDAA and WCRL) to reach back out with what he wants us to offer. The PR firm has reached out to us already, so we should be finalizing the trials with Ken soon. Many exciting possibilities for these trials - we’ll let you know more as it is told to us!

06/13/2024

Ooh - one step closer to an exciting time at Tucson! More details coming in the next few weeks…

05/30/2024

Hi All - been awhile since we’ve posted. Hope all is well with everyone and you are finding time to play with your dogs in spite of the increasing heat. 🤪.

We have a question - please reply with your thoughts if you would! Cynosports is holding their agility National in Tucson Nov 6-10. They have international exhibitors as well as a lot of east coast exhibitors who show in both agility and rally that usually attend this event. We’ve been asked to consider hosting a rally event (or two or three) there in conjunction with the agility event. The AKC all-breed conformation/obedience/rally trials are Nov 8-11. We won’t host trials in conflict with the AKC ones. So if we hosted trials on Wednesday and Thursday Nov 6-7 (the two days prior to the AKC shows), would you consider attending? If you attend, would you want to be able to participate in both regular and flash, or just regular? This event would have Level 2 and 3 in addition to Level 1, so you’d be able to keep on moving with your title progressions.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated! Once we know if we will be hosting this event, we will set a fall date for trials in the Valley.

WCRL Rally in the Valley take 1 is in the books! The chilly weather couldn’t stop us from having a hot ring going - every team who competed in all three trials completed at least one title and most teams earned both their regular and Flash titles - congratulations!!!

03/26/2024

I have NO idea where my post-trial post has disappeared to in the vast emptiness of Facebook, so I'm going to try this again... I will be posting pictures and a wrap up of our first rally trial tomorrow now that all the official paperwork has been completed. Thank you to everyone who came out to play on a wet and windy day and thank you for all the help you gave us setting up, tearing down, and having great attitudes, in spite of runaway course signs, flopping ring gates, and coffee blown over onto the paperwork! 🤣 We are already excited to do another trial - we will be looking at potential dates and locations in the very near future for those, which will include Level 2 regular and flash classes. Keep an eye out for an email if you competed - we will have the scoring breakdowns for your records. Congratulations to all the new title holders - you represented the sport of rally in an amazing way Sunday!

03/20/2024

The countdown is on! Our Rally in the Valley WCRL trial is fast approaching - Sunday to be exact! We will email everyone who pre-entered with final trial details Friday and also post here for day of entries. You can also find all the location and time details in the premium! Hope to see you there!

For people coming to the WCRL match this Sunday at Bark Avenue, Michelle sent some pictures of the area you will be able to crate in next to the training yard. When you enter the parking lot, drive around the east side of the building and slowly pull close to the gate - it will open automatically. Park between the red lines in the back parking lot. If you want to crate somewhere other than out of your car, you can set up in the area pictured below by the storage shed where there is a bit of shade. Please bring your own water, chairs and other shade if you want it but absolutely
No staking anything down. We are starting early enough we should be done long before it gets very warm - the predicted high Sunday is 82. Hope to see you there!

03/02/2024

The weather is gorgeous and our WCRL match at Bark Avenue on March 10th is only a week away! While the rest of the country struggles with adapting to Daylight Saving Time changes, we will be kickin’ back and enjoying ourselves as scheduled running through some rally courses. If you are thinking about attending, please mark yourself on the event notice so we have an idea how many to expect. Hope to see you all there!

02/27/2024

We're going to have a WCRL match hosted by Bark Avenue on Sunday 10 March - this is your chance to come practice a full length Level 1 course and get feedback from the judges before our trial 24 March. Questions? Email us at [email protected]. Hope to see you there!

Now that three of our big AKC weekends are over here in the Valley, it's time to start thinking about getting ready for WCRL rally again! Entries open February 15 - that's only nine days away! Remember - you need to have a WCRL/USDAA registration number for you to enter these trials, so if you haven't registered your dog yet, now is the time to do it. We will be hosting three Level 1 trials in both regular and flash rally, so you have the opportunity to earn two titles in one day on March 24th. We will also be holding a match on March 10th, hosted by Bark Avenue. Details will be out shortly on the match - a chance to ask last minute questions and run a couple courses to put the finishing touches on trial prep. If you have any questions, let us know!

Registration can be purchased at rallydogs.com or usdaa.com. If you already have a USDAA registration number for your dog, you can use that same number to enter rally.

The premium has been sent in to WCRL - as soon as it's approved, a copy will be posted here.

A few highlights - three trials, regular and flash level 1 classes offered in each trial, (providing the chance to title in both regular and flash in one day), and a limit of 20 runs per trial for our first event to be held at Paradise Valley Park. Entries will open 15 Feb 2024!

We are up and running! Our premium has been approved and is posted on the WCRL website at https://rallydogs.com/events_d...

Ready to start 2024 off with a new canine adventure? Then get your dog registered so you can play in the upcoming Rally in the Valley WCRL trial 24 March 24!!

The adventure comes in two parts - the second is actually participating in the trials. The FIRST is navigating the websites to get your dog registered. :P USDAA and WCRL are privately-owned venues owned by the same person. So registering with one venue will give you a registration number that can be used in both venues. Confused?? Read on...

If your dog already has either a USDAA or WCRL registration number, you may use either registration number to enter these events. USDAA agility registration is valid to compete in WCRL rally events and a WCRL registration is valid to compete in USDAA agility events. If your dog already has a registration number, you are ready to send in your entries when they open 15 February 2024!

If you don’t have either a USDAA or WCRL registration number for your dog, follow these steps to get your dog registered. A valid registration number MUST be included on your entry form. Online processing of registrations usually take a few days, so be sure to register your dog well ahead of the event.

If you want to register your dog on the rally site, go to https://rallydogs.com/competitorServices/index.cfm?event=cs.login and create your account. After adding your personal information, click on the ADD button on the My Dogs chart and follow the steps to purchase a registration number for your dog. If you make the purchase through the rally website, the cost is $40.

If you want to set up your account on the agility site, go to https://www.usdaa.com/competitor-services/login-or-register.cfm?u=%2Fcompetitor%2Dservices%2Findex%2Ecfm%3F and create your account. After adding your personal information, click on the ADD button on the My Dogs chart and follow the steps to purchase a registration number for your dog. If you make the purchase through the agility website, the cost is $36.

I don't understand why getting a registration number on the agility site is $4 cheaper than getting one on the rally site, but it is. Be aware, the USDAA and WCRL websites aren't integrated and your scores for rally will only appear on the rally site, so you may want to consider if the ease of having your registration information and rally information on the same website is worth an additional $4 if you don't plan on playing USDAA agility with your dog and just register through the rally website.

Really confused now? Let me know and I will help you get registered! :)
